Raspberry Cream

MAC Raspberry Cream Oh Sweetie Lipcolour ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia with cool, blue undertones and violet pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, creamy texture that felt lightweight and applied beautifully to my lips. There was just a smidgen of color in my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from afar as the shimmer caught the light so well.

After an hour or so of wear, the shine wore down and the color felt less creamy and adhered more strongly to my lips (so it didn’t slide around, but it wasn’t transfer-proof). The color stayed on well for six and a half hours, stained very slightly, and was neither drying nor hydrating. It had a strong, sweet, creamy raspberry scent–a little more cream than raspberry–and a faint, sweet taste.

Formula Overview

$17.50/0.1 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "lasting colour" for "eight hour" wear that's "hydrating" and "non-feathering" that comes in "frosted opaque hues." There are 15 shades in the range, and each one has its own distinct scent--tied to its name--and most of the scents were pretty dead-on but I could see those with more sophisticated noses finding some scents a little cloying or synthetic. I didn't notice the scents lingering for long after I applied the respective shade, and I didn't notice any tastes. The coverage ranged from semi-opaque to opaque, while the application was inconsistent, and I think it'll come down to how one wants to wear a particular shade (layered or alone) whether the application pitfalls (settling into lip lines, unevenness) of some shades will be deal-breakers.

The finish on most shades was very shiny and metallic with an initial glossiness that took an hour to three to wear down; most shades felt like a lipstick and gloss hybrid but I can see why MAC has it listed as a lipstick. Once the glossiness goes away, the remaining color and finish look a lot more like a lipstick than a gloss, and it felt clingier (some more than others) and seemed to adhere better. The texture is lightweight, smooth, and mostly non-sticky, so there was more slip and creaminess compared to something like Lipglass, and it didn't have the dry down of a Retro Matte Lipcolour.

They definitely did not wear for eight hours--that claim felt really over-the-top to me--and most shades lasted between four and six hours with a few deviating from that range. There's enough product in an application that a good amount of color comes through after drinking a coffee or glass of water (despite transfer). They were lightly hydrating at best but some seemed more non-drying over time. One upside was that getting colors in this finish (metallic/pearl with some shine) and opacity level (even when they weren't opaque) made them less dupable, though I looked for dupes across lipstick and gloss options.

Death by Chocolate

MAC Death by Chocolate Oh Sweetie Lipcolour ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, reddish-plum with subtle, warm undertones and cooler fuchsia and red pearl. It had good pigmentation that applied evenly across my lips without emphasizing my lip lines too much, though there was slight product that settled there. The metallic sheen helped to camouflage the settling from a normal viewing distance.

The texture was lightly creamy, lightweight, and smooth, which made it easy to work with, and after an hour and a half of wear, the texture changed: it was less shiny and no longer had any slip, which helped the product adhere better and stay in place for a solid six and a half hours on me. The formula was non-drying over time. It had a strong, chocolaty scent that was slightly sweet but read more synthetic to me (and I don’t have an expert nose by any means), though I didn’t notice any sweet taste (but I have for some shades).

These are both so pretty, but I’ve promised myself not to buy anymore of these after being disappointed with Purple Panna Cotta. On the other hand, these do rate better…

I love the look of Death By Chocolate! It looks especially good on you.

This shade actually kinda reminds me of some OPI nail polishes, those blackened reddish colors they do so well — Pretty at the Premiere, Every Month is Oktoberfest, Royal Rajah Ruby, etc.

If I hadn’t already racked up $250 + on MAC x Aaliyah this morning, I came *so* close to adding Death By Chocolate to my order! Thankfully, sanity kicked in before I could. But, I just LOVE this shade so much. Hoping it may stick around until July….like really hoping!
