MAC Plead Gilty Soft Serve Shadow
MAC Plead Gilty Soft Serve Shadow ($22.00 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “vibrant sparkling gold.” It’s a light, glittering white gold with warm, yellow tones and a very glittery finish. This was the most glittery shade out of the eleven I tested. The texture isn’t really rough going on, but it is better applied as more of a wash than trying to make it opaque on the lid. It’s buildable from sheer to semi-sheer, but it can look uneven easily. The color wore well for ten hours without creasing or fading, but there was a moderate amount of fall out over time. MAC Moon Rock (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Stargazer (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). MAC Pastelluxe #1 (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC So, So Saucy Soft Serve Shadow ($22.00 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone peach.” It’s a light-medium, peach with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had sheer to semi-opaque color payoff, and this was one of the shades that had a drier consistency and applied that way–it was very easily “bunched” where the product would overlap onto itself in some places and lift color up from other areas, so it appeared quite uneven. What did apply certainly lasted as long as the rest of the shades–ten hours–but was a pain to apply. Too Faced Cookie Cutter (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Blaze (PiP, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Oracle (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Cava (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Quite Yummy! Soft Serve Shadow ($22.00 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “light pink.” It’s a muted, medium rosy copper with warm undertones and a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. This shade didn’t have as much sparkle as some shades, so it might feel more subdued as a result. It had better color payoff, ranging from medium to totally opaque. The color was blendable, long-wearing (over ten hours), and easy to apply. LORAC Unbelievable (PiP, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Reward Yourself (LE, $16.50) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Coloured Raine Who Me (DC, $6.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Pretty Vulgar Clutch (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). MAC Softened Up Soft Serve Shadow ($22.00 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone warm brown.” It’s a medium-dark, bronzy brown with warm, golden tones and shimmer. It had semi-sheer to opaque color payoff (about two layers or just applied more heavily). The texture was a little “wetter” compared to most shades, but it still had more of a powder-like texture on the skin once applied. I didn’t see any creasing or fading after ten hours of wear. Pat McGrath Beyond Bronze 003 (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Laura Mercier Bronze Glow (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | MAC Soft Serve Shadow ($22.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new, limited edition cream eyeshadow formula that’s described as “buildable colour that’s long-wearing [and] non-creasing.” They are similar to formulas like ColourPop Super Shock, Dior Diorshow Fusion Mono, Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, and MAC’s own Electric Cool–it actually made me wonder why they didn’t continue to extend that range, but worth noting: these contain far more product than Electric Cool (those were only 0.07 oz.). I would say these are most like Chanel’s, as the majority are rather sparkly and offer less coverage than ColourPop or Electric Cool (on average). The texture is sponge-like, where you can press on the surface without leaving strong indentations with your brush, but if you pressed your fingertip in it, you would see a depression and even subtle fingerprints left behind. It’s not particularly emollient; it is one of the drier types of this kind of product that I’ve encountered. Most of them aren’t dry to the point where it would impede application. They are, as described, buildable, and I think the formula is best suited for someone who likes semi-sheer washes of lighter color with a fair amount of sparkle. I get all-day wear (10+ hours) with every shade–no creasing, fading, and very little fall out. I used MAC’s 242 brush to apply these, which applied most shades well enough, but some shades would thicken and bunch up, appearing uneven, if I attempted to build up the coverage. I think the finish and end result is similar to the Foiled Eyeshadows, which were a powder formula, but those were easier to work with overall (not as long-wearing, though). The collection launches online on May 26th, in-stores June 2nd.

So, So Saucy looks suuuuper pretty in the pan, but swatched it’s a bit too sheer for my liking.
Totally understand! 🙂
Oooh, Softened Up is really pretty! I’ve been eyeing Chanel Illusion Ombre in Mirage, but this is cheaper. And eyeing Plead Guilty as a sparkly topper for shadows
Softened Up is easier to use, I think, too, as it isn’t as chunky as Mirage, if I’m remembering my Illusion d’Ombres right.
Quite Yummy and especially Softened Up look great. Not colors I would wear though.
Gotcha!
I think Softened Up is the only one that has enough pigment and color intensity for my liking. It’s quite pretty!
It’s definitely one of the most pigmented out of the bunch! I am glad MAC at least said buildable rather than over-the-top pigmented… since they are definitely not that.
I think I’ll be getting Quite Yummy!
Yay!
Even with the forewarned fallout; I need Plead Guilty!!! A gazillion years back, in the 80’s , I worked as a MUA at a company that back then had MAC shades of excellent quality (I don’t believe MAC even existed yet? Idk?). But whenever I have Googled it, there are NO results! Very unnerving because Jean Pierre Cosmetique had shades that were way ahead of their time, including my HG white-gold duochrome eyeshadow that I went through 3 entire pans of. Have not found a true dupe for it yet! This one is super sparkley version of it, as is UD Bobby Dazzle from Vice 3.
I bet you’ll like it! It’s very pretty and has better staying power than UD’s Bobby Dazzle for sure!
Very pretty colours to use on a hot summer’s day – not too strong, just pale and shimmmery.
Agreed!
Does so so saicy stay visibly peach on the lid or does it become just white shimmer? Is it that small little bit of orange in the eye look? (I see its labeled as in there im just hoping thats it)
It’s a light peach, but it isn’t just white – I applied it on the outer third of the lid, and the very, very outer portion is probably darkened by Softened Up (put that in the crease).
So softened up is the only one that would satisfy me in terms of pigmentation, but it isn’t that unique in color.
Pretty but I like what you did with the MUFE pencils more. Easy pass for me.
Your eye look is super pretty!!!! But I’m not super impressed with these shadows.
Thanks so much, Bonnie!
