MAC Peacocky: Kissable Lipcolour Review, Photos, Swatches, Part 1

MAC Kissable Lipcolour ($18.00 for 0.17 oz.) are a new, medium-coverage lip product that is designed to give you the “comfort of a lipstick” with the “shiny finish of a lipgloss.” It’s supposed to be a lightweight, highly emollient formula with creamy color. It is also touted as being feather-resistant and wearing “for hours.” This includes these four: Enchantee (light blue pink), Exxxhibitionist (red-toned coral), Flaunting It (grey mauve), Love Peck (blackened blood red).

  • Enchantee is a slightly milky, light-medium pink with blue undertones. It is reminiscent of Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass and Snob Lipstick. The coverage is nearly opaque, but as I’ve seen in the other lighter shades in this formula, it can be a touch streaky–the streakiness is less noticeable from a normal viewing distance than in the close-up shot, though.
  • Exxxhibitionist is brightened red-coral with faint white micro-shimmer (very subtle!). It provides opaque color coverage without a lot of product. It is a darker version of Vegas Volt (also redder).
  • Flaunting It is a pinked plum with very subtle white micro-shimmer. It’s just about opaque on my lips, and it is one of the more universally flattering shades in the line-up. It is like Plumful lipstick in a lipstick/gloss hybrid form.  It has the same “feel” as Illamasqua’s Move, which is pinker.
  • Love Peck is a dark, blood red with subtle brown undertones. Despite the intensity of the color, it is not completely opaque–it looks a little more like a stain than a lipstick or gloss. This one makes teeth look whiter, though! It reminded me of Face Atelier’s Revenge lipstick with more glossiness. It is a toucher redder and glossier than MAC Dark Side.

Kissable Lipcolour is vanilla-scented and comes in a long, skinny tube (they are the same as the Dare to Wear Lipglasses), but they have a good amount of product in them (0.17 oz.). It has a thin-to-medium, non-sticky consistency that feels creamy, lightweight, and a lot like a liquid lipstick. I didn’t experience any feathering after wearing one of the darker shades for the past five hours, though I am not prone to lip color bleeding.

I’ve been wearing Scandelicious since noon (five now), and it’s still hanging on–and I’ve had lunch and a drink since. There was some color transfer on my cup, but it seemed less than a normal lipstick. Some of the shininess has disappeared, but it doesn’t read flat, matte, or dry–rather it transitions to a satin finish. I would say it started at 90% opaque color and five hours later is at 75% (again, with eating and drinking!). My lips do not feel parched at all–they actually feel quite comfortable!  It feels and wears more like a lipstick than a gloss, especially after an hour or so.

I have found that the lighter shades tend to gather in lip lines or show some streaking, but the medium to darker shades seem to apply better and smoother. These reminded me of Korres’ Liquid Lipstick, though these seem like a thinner, less watery formula (Kissable Lipcolour almost seems gel-like). They are also thinner and have a creamier finish as compared to Chanel Rouge Allure Laques (which also have more shimmer), but they are a good alternative that is more affordable.

I am disappointed to see such a high price tag, as it just seems to be yet one more sign that MAC prices will soon be in line with other high-end brands. Unlike the Mega Metal Eyeshadows, you do not get more product than you would in a regular lipgloss (e.g. Lipglass).  Though in the interest of providing a fuller picture, the quantity and price are in-line with comparable brands like Benefit, Stila, and Urban Decay; not exactly comforting, I’m sure!

MAC Peacocky launches on January 6th, 2011 in-stores across North America, January 2011 for international. The approximate launch date for online is January 4th but may not be exact. It features 15 Mega Metal Eyeshadows ($19.50 each) and 12 Kissable Lipcolours ($18.00 each). All products are limited edition.

  • Product: 28/30
  • Value: 7/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I think the medium to darker shades are very nice, but the lighter shades a little less so (think 26/30). So far, the wear seems to be true to their “hours” claim (my average is three hours or so for gloss, four hours for lipstick). The colors definitely are on the opaque side with none really on the sheer side.

I wasn’t going to get any lip colors since I decided I’m getting 11 mega eyeshadows! But as usual you helped me find one at least I must have…Flaunting It is coming home with me!! Thanks for putting all this info up, you are THE BEST!

Flaunting It looks like it could be the one for me. Love Peck looks amazing, but I think it would make me look too much like a vampire with my pale skin.

Christine, Happy New Year 🙂 Lots of happiness, makeup and hope all your dreams come true in 2011 🙂
I like Flaunting it. Are these lipsticks similar to Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laque or OCC’s lip tars ? Actually, I wonder if Flauting it is vaguely similar to Chanel’s RAL Stunt !!!

Exxxhibitionist and Flaunting It are for me and I also like Love Peck but have never tried a dark red like that so I’m unsure. I might just risk it.

First thing I see on my blog roll after the new year: Peacocky swatches! Thank you, Christine!

Love Flaunting it and Love Peck. So happy to hear the wear time is good. That was pretty much the only thing I was worried about. Time to start saving I guess 😀

I like Love Peck and Exxxhibitionist. I am never one to wear orange in clothing but I love subtle orange-y shades on my lips! And I’d never purchase anything from the MAC collections before I see your swatches, it truly makes a difference as I would probably pass Exxxhibitionist without even swatching it at the store.

Thank you for all your hard work Christine and Happy New Year!

Flaunting It is gorgeous, but I’m not so sure I would feel comfortable paying $18 for it! It’s a shame MAC can’t stay with their relatively low pricing, that and their pigmentation is what made the company so appealing to me in the first place. All the awesome new formulas are so pricey lately though!

I like Exxhibitionist the best. Love its balance between red, coral and pink. From the pictures of most of the colors, especially the lighter shades, the product looks so much darker in the tube than when worn…something to keep in mind I think!

Fitrah Avatar

How do these look when they wear? More specifically, do they come off in flakes like other longwear lipcolours? That is my biggest problem with them, not how long they last, but how they look when they finally do start coming off. Thanks.

I bought Exxhibitionist today also as I liked it when you said Christine that it was a darker version of Vegas Volt, which I have never bought but when I tried it on in the shop I just had to tone it down with Cork lip pencil! Thanks again!

Hi, I just wanted to ask a question about the shade: Flaunting it lipgloss. Do you think it would suit someone who is fair skined with blonde hair….or would it be too dark?Hope to hear back from you, thanks.
