MAC Lipsticks: No Interruptions, Soft Hint, Designer Blue, Pick Me Pick Me, Model Behavior
MAC No Interruptions Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, yellow gold with a metallic shimmer-sheen finish. It performed more like a Lustre than a Frost–it was sheer, though it packed plenty of shimmer on the lips and lasted a mere two hours on me. It was neither drying nor hydrating, which given the rest, is really a positive point. I think it is absolutely workable on its own, as it just adds a more frosted finish to your natural lip color, but it would also work layered over other lip products. MAC Spoiled Fabulous (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). MAC Liquid Lurex (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). MAC Metalwork (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Dior Golden (065) (LE, $40.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Tanarama (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Live Long and Prosper (LE, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Rory (LE, $36.00) is lighter, more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). MAC Playland (LE, $19.00) is more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). Guerlain Yellow It-stick (603) (DC, $37.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC Noon Noir (LE, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Brilliance (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). NARS Orgasm Ecstasy (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Soft Hint Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, bluish-green with a metallic shimmer. It is almost more of a duochrome, layering kind of color, as it shifts from a warmer green to a cooler, more aqua-leaning blue. It had chunkier shimmer that would sometimes cling to itself, which created larger chunks on the lips that could be felt if I pressed my lips together. It applied evenly for the most part, though it was semi-sheer at best. It lasted for three hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. (Unfortunately, MAC did not indicate this was a sheer shade.) Tom Ford Beauty Lena (LE, $36.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Opal (LE, $24.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Designer Blue Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium-dark navy blue with cool undertones and a frosted finish. It appeared lighter and warmer swatched, but it seemed to darken slightly after it was applied. It had semi-opaque color coverage that did not apply evenly; it was patchy and streaky, so this is a shade that needs a lip primer or lip liner underneath it to have a decent result. The color lasted for four and a half hours, was neither drying nor hydrating, and left a purplish stain behind. Anastasia Paint (P, $20.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Igloo Bloo (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Reverb (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Too Faced Blue You Away (P, $20.00) is warmer, glossier (85% similar). Smashbox Iced Out (P, $24.00) is darker, brighter, glossier (80% similar). KVD Beauty Poe (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (80% similar). MAC Moon Landing (LE, $21.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Formula Overview
MAC Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is available in several finishes, and the performance tends to vary with the finish. Amplified, Satins, and Mattes tend to have the most pigmentation, longer-wear, and more even coverage, but satins and mattes can be drying at times. Lustres are the sheerest, can sometimes be drying, and often wear only an hour or two as they have a lot of slip. Frosts vary from medium to opaque coverage, some shimmer to glitter, and wear an average of four hours. Cremesheens have more slip and medium or better coverage, but they can often settle into lip lines or look streaky if they are lighter in color. All of MAC’s lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

These are extremely disappointing?.They should have made them all with an actual frost finish!!In the tube they look like they are going to be so good and then swatched and on the lips by themselves they are a real dud.I think Soft Hint would be a pretty topper so I might want it for that. The blue is frosted but the fact that it is so streaky turns me off.
I think they would have been better off labeling these something else… Sheer Frost? Layerables? Designer Blue is more in line with frost finishes, but the other two are sheerer.
I love your eye look with the blue lipstick! Wow! Awesome! 🙂
Thanks, Pami!
I have to agree. And I find with the combination of the Blue Lipstick and the Blue eye makeup the Blue Lipstick Looks not so “Strange/unusual”. I think People would think oh what a Great Look instead of oh she is wearing Blue Lipstick !?
I really wonder if women actually use such bright colors in daily life in the States or other countries. I really love seeing those bold purples, blues and greens but I can never imagine myself wearing them. One problem is I am not used to wearing those colors and still need get used to it, but also no one around me ever wears them so I am pretty sure it will look awkward if I do. Maybe I should be the first one to encourage others 😀
I’m sure rocking blue lipstick is still a novel sight, but it’ll depend on the area! I believe that the closer you are to a major metro, the more variety you see 🙂
I wear blue lipstick out of the house on a weekly basis!!! It’s my favorite these days!!!
Well, so many brands are cranking out great lipsticks in unusual colors, my guess is that people must be buying them. I think we should have a National Bold Lipstick week, where everyone can whip out the colors they were always afraid to wear in public (ie blues, purples, blacks, etc) and just wear them, a different color each day 🙂
I rocked blue/green lipstick a couple of times going out with friends, but I live in Portland and the city’s motto is “Keep Portland weird”, so nothing looks really weird here. 😀
Many of us do. It depends on the area, though.
Right here!!! Hahahaha. I wear blue and green lipsticks all the time. I’ve lived in Portland, OR and now Las Vegas whilst doing this so maybe it’s more common in major cities. I’m not saying I see a lot of other women wearing these colors, I generally don’t. But I don’t mind standing out or looking weird to people. It’s (the bold colors) what I dig, so I rock it! ?
I actually wear dark green and dark blues and purples just as I do pink and reds. They are the exception for me and can look great out and about for an everyday look although the blues I tend to wear only when going out with friends so maybe more at night. It does depend on the area and city you live in. Here in MN, it’s not so common to see super bright or bold lipsticks as an everyday wear lipstick except for the few of us who do. LOL
Theres something really fun about soft hint, and it’s unique enough that I can ignore the terrible rating. I’m such a sucker for the undupable!
It has a really pretty sheen! I mean, if you don’t mind sheer and shorter wearing, it’s all good, IMO.
I’d probably wear it over a liquid lipstick as a topper.
That is a good idea. I have tried some liquid lipsticks recently and I Do not like that they emphazise (Do not Know if I have written it Right) my lip Lines. A glitter Lipstick can maybe make this better/less visible.
I think it would work nice that way.
Absolutely as a topper.. my thoughts as well. I use the blue shades of the ABH moonchild highlighting palette over regular lipstick, but that can be a bit drying.
I could see the first two being cute when layered over another lipstick, but that last blue lipstick is very disappointing. The color itself is gorgeous, but the unevenness is visible even from afar.
I wish it was better!
Cool theme, definitely, but poor execution 🙁
True!
Not for me 🙁
Maybe next time!
Soft Hint reminds me of MAC Trolls Lip Gloss in Twerkoise . I stumbled across Spoiled Fabulous inside MAC yesterday and almost got it (so sparkly!), but I think I’m going to compare it with No Interruptions to see which one I like better
You are totally right, Katherine! A non-glossy version of Twerkquoise!
Not great, pigment or coverage wise, but No Interruptions would certainly make a very beautiful topper! That one actually DOES interest me for that specific purpose!
But the 2 blues are giving me a case of the blues. If MAC wants to do edgy UD-like shades, they need to tweak this formula so that it gives much fuller coverage and smoother pigment.
LOL! The puns write themselves 😉
Do I need a 10th blue lipstick? Probably not. Am I going to buy Designer Blue anyways? Yes.
Haha!
I will definitely try the 2 glitter sheer ones. They Look surprisingly good on its own and will hopefully be a good topper, too.
I suspect both of the sheerer ones will work well on top of other products!
More bold and opaque would have too much to hope for, I guess. Still, I’d really like to have these as toppers.
I’m just surprised that almost all of them are so sheer!
I have Pick me Pick me as a topper and think I need to add Soft Hint. It looks sparkilicious
Soft Hint will be fab as a layering shade!
Even the first two lipsticks are very sheer, they could add a little something over the top of another lipstick. But still, disappointing from MAC. A beautiful eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
I’m not normally a big fan of frost lipsticks on me, but the sheerness of these means they might work well as toppers. I like how unique Soft Hint is.
I think they will work well on top of other shades! 🙂
I know these are technically terrible but I flipping love them. I do wish they were more pigmented, but then again, the sheerness gives your lips a cool duochrome effect that I just love. I imagine they’d look pretty cool over lipsticks too. I’ve bought most of the line already…I think I’m just missing 2 or 3. The spoiled fabulous (sold out in two places!), the silver and one other.
I definitely think it depends on how one wants to use them! As layering shades, they’re neat, accessible, and relatively affordable 🙂
These reminds me of the Jouer Lip Toppers.
Definitely better for layering!
OH MAC, so disappointing. Lately most of their collections have been underwhelming.
Maybe they’ll get it right next time!
Such a pity the blue didn’t perform well, it’s a lovely shade. I actually quite like the first two, No Interruptions and Soft Hint. I think they look interesting enough by themselves, I think they must look quite good in sunlight. I can also easily see them as toppers. I’ll add them to my ever growing wish list.
The first two have a pretty sheen to them – they almost make it look like your natural lip color IS the lipstick color!
