MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil
MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil
MAC & Beth Ditto also includes four lip pencils, three of which I knew I reviewed fairly recently (December ’11). You can find Embrace Me, Entertain Me, and In Synch reviewed previously. 🙂 Even though it was permanent, I wasn’t sure if I reviewed MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil ($14.00 for 0.05 oz.), which is described as a “blackened plum.” It’s a really deep, dark wine burgundy with strong red undertones. This will work well with shades like MAC Soulfully Rich, MAC Prince Noir, and MAC Smoked Purple.
This is a classic color. I remember hearing about it for nearly as long as I’ve been buying MAC products. I so rarely wear lip liner (usually only for special events or when I’m going to be out all day and can’t touch-up at all), and thus, have never been compelled to pick this one. I want to make sure to mention that Nightmoth was applied after I had already applied over ten other lip products, so my lips do show some of the effect of that many swatches when combined with the drier formula of the lip pencil.
MAC’s Lip Pencils work best on freshly hydrated and exfoliated lips, which is true for most long-wearing lip liners. Nightmoth wears and wears and wears. I get eight hour wear, minimal transfer, and while it doesn’t look so pretty on its own (not many lip pencils do!), it doesn’t actually dry out my lips. It absolutely will prolong the color of anything you put on top of it.

Are you kidding me? I was expecting your lips to look like coconut shavings but they look gorgeous and soft! Nightmoth looks gorgeous. Would you say it’s similar to Velvetella?
LOL! They look so raisin-esque to me — at least compared to normal! I don’t have Velvetella, but when I tried to google to see swatches, the reviews on Velvetella seemed to say it was a dupe for Nightmoth — http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=73099/Cremestick-Liner—Velvetella/MAC/Lip-Liners
Is this pencil eye safe? It looks like it’d be a lovely eye pencil!
@MichanAlistairMuggleborn I would doubt it, since it has a really strong red/purple base – I’m pretty sure MAC hasn’t specifically tested it for eyes, though.
@MichanAlistairMuggleborn MAC CCB in Bat Black is very similar, and I believe it is eye-safe, and I think it’s still available in PRO stores. I’ve used on my eyes with no issue with either irritation or staining. It’s also similar to Revlon’s Vixen, which is DC’d, but it was an eye pencil with similar tones. HTH
This lip pencil also looks amazing with MAC Rebel!
I have Current, would you say they’re similar enough to pass Nightmoth? I do love the colour though, looks lovely on you! 🙂
I don’t have Currant to compare! 🙁
Oooh, I was looking for a deep purple to wear under my purple lipstick. This is quite pretty on its own, as well. Glad to see it isn’t limited edition. 🙂
I love this. And its really long lasting. I use this with all kinds of glosses
so that’s how it would look on mine 😀 interesting gothic color tho
Best ever
which eyepencil are you wearing in this photo? it is beautiful!
@nessa_fans MAC Beth & Glory Shade & Smoke Shadow/Liner
Looks super goth with clear gloss over! Love it!!!!
Hi Christine!
Would you recommend wearing lipliner, lipstick, or longwearing lipcolour (MAC)? I really only want to apply one thing but it would be nice if the colour could last, not smudge/transfer, and wouldn’t be cakey.
I really appreciate your help. I’m just getting to really know makeup!
Thank you
I would go with long-wearing lip color, then!
