Oooh, you are SO lucky! FedEx JUST dropped of a little black box that could only mean MAC… and inside was MAC & Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday lipstick. I say you’re lucky because I have to head to class in about fifteen minutes–I had just enough time to snap photos, swatch, crop, and upload.
Pink Friday is described as a “bright creamy pink lipstick,” and it has a satin finish (which means it has a creamy, semi-matte finish–no shimmer). It is a a creamy, medium pink with a noticeable blue undertone. It is pretty opaque on lips, and it almost has a chalky look, because it’s paler than it looks. I thought it was going to be a deeper pink, even based on seeing in the tube (in person), but it goes on paler. I also recommend prepping lips as satin lipsticks can often emphasize dryness or any flakiness on lips!
It is bluer-based (veers on purple) in comparison to All Styled Up. It is totally different from Chatterbox and Sweetie. Fun Fun looks washed out and muddy when swatched next to it. Lavender Whip is significantly glossier and purpler. Saint Germain and Snob are actually the closest to Pink Friday; both are just a hue lighter, but the colors are very, very similar. Funny enough, Viva Glam Gaga looks less blue-based against all of these stronger, bluer-based pinks (see swatch).

I apologize in advance — I do not have Pink Nouveau to compare this to. I was actually planning to purchase it along with Pink Friday on Friday but this press sample arrived this afternoon. I have a skin swatch of Pink Nouveau here, and you can tell it is similar–not quite as bright, probably not quite as blue-based.

RECOMMENDATION: The texture is a little off — it doesn’t apply as smoothly or as cleanly as other satin finish lipsticks. If you have either Snob or Saint Germain, this is close enough that you could skip. This is a shade that looks best on cooler skin tones because of the strong blue base.

I don’t even know how even Nicki pulled this off! If Pink Nouveau is darker and less blue-based than even this, then you KNOW I won’t be buying this new one.
I already have Pink Nouveau which I wear with any medium brown lip pencil and blend it in well, and it still looks like the actually Pink Nouveau in the tube but the color just ‘endears’ itself to my skintone.

Hey Shi, I too love the pink lip look and I suppose I’m a NC-45, the very patient woman that helped me had me try the lady gaga with some horribly pink gloss atop it (it may have been the match to it) and I thought it was the lipstick. I saw another of the salespeople with the same complexion whose lips looked great and asked what she had on. The problem was not VG GaGa, the issue was with the gloss. So I ended up with plum liner, gaga lipstick and love nectar gloss, that keeps everything in the same family but not to cool (read garish). We made sure there was enough liner, blended well and let it warm some on my lips, I now wear it all the time! also try with viva glam V. hope that helps someone 🙂
Oh, disappointment. I have both Viva Glam GaGa and Saint Germain. I love Nicki Minaj, but I’ll be skipping this one.

After looking at your excellent comparison’s, I think I might pick up Chatterbox, TBH. Everyone loves these icey blue Pinks but I’d love a much warmer Pink.
I hear you I like some cold, blue-based pinks like Girl About Town and Pink Nouveau but I just can’t wear anything lighter than Pink Nouveau without a lot of ‘chemistry’ or ‘alchemy’ being involved! LOL

ok so it pretty much is Snob, so I’ll pass, I’ve owned snob for ages and can pretty much count how many times i’ve worn it on one hand.
I would love to fine a nice baby pink that works on my strongly pigmented lips (pale skin blue eyes – red lips, great if I want to slick some balm on and go not so great for trying to find a nude that works… lets put it this way, Viva Glam Cyndi on me looks pretty much like my natural lip colour whilst on others it looks really red!)
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I have very fair skin, blue eyes, brown hair, and red lips. If I leave my lips as is, about 99% of nudes look horrible on me. Do you brush a little foundation on your lips? That’s a good start but before you even apply your makeup, exfoliate your lips and apply a little balm. Okay, so my saving grace for nude lips is MAC lip erase in ‘pale’. I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on it, but it’s something that I believe is subjective to each person. It’s a pro item, but you can order it from a pro store. Anyway, I’m not going to lie to you and tell that it’s super long wearing or moisturizing. Frankly, it’s not. And if your lips are super dry or prone to flakiness, you probably won’t like it. However, it makes a huge difference in the way my nude lipsticks look on me. I can wear colors that I definitely couldn’t before.
I’m the same way – NC15/20, blue eyes, natural blonde (but dyed dark brown), very pigmented lips. Brave is basically MLBB. I have Snob and VG Gaga, and they both look pretty weird on me. Even Angel looks sort of off.
I wanted to get this, because I love Nicki Minaj, but I know I’ll never wear it.
(sidenote: if you can get your hands on Lazy Day from this years To The Beach, that was an awesome neutral/nude pink on me…)

It doesn’t – California Dreaming is incredibly sheer and barely-there pink.

Ick. I have Snob and I wear it once in a blue moon (and then it has to heavily blotted and paired with a gloss) so this is a definite pass for me. Also, I have no clue who Nicki Minaj is.

i really like this but as mac doesn’t deliver here I presume it won’t be available. I’ve figured out on your skintone that dark colours look lighter, light colours look lighter and colours look more cool toned as compared to my very light very cool skintone! So this would probably look less purple on me.

A couple pictures of me wearing “PINK NOUVEAU”… I found it could look like Gaga if the flash on my webcam bleached it out, or it could look more like Saint Germain if the lighting was bluer or darker. Mostly to me it looks like a bright pink with a light blue based / purple tinge to it…

If I can get my hands on one, I will…if not, I’m glad it has some pretty close dupes. I think for a more daring look, it could look good with a gray or even purple smoky eye (it’s hard for me to pull off cool-toned eyeshadow but maybe I’ll give it a try on a day off, lol).
This colour is boring me, it seems that MAC release a colour like this a few times a year and for a great many people its very hard to wear.

I have Pink Nouveau, and just from these swatches, I would say that they are really not alike at all.
I was expecting this to be darker pink, and more wearable, and I wanted it.. But now, I don’t know! I never wear Gaga anymore. It was just too hard to work with..

Hmm… I’m not sure how I feel about it! I was really excited about it but it’s very… pink. I have Viva Gaga and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It’s a lot more wearable than I expected. This doesn’t look very wearable. I have a hard time with pinks (especially Angel… I hate that color!) I know it’s not similar in shade to Angel but is it similar in application? Angel sinks into the lips and washes me out… does this have the same properties, do you think? (Sorry that question is a little weird :X but I’m afraid of getting it and not being able to wear it!)

This doesn’t really sink into lips so much, but it can go on a bit streaky and take some layering to achieve full opacity!

I’m really not sure – since it’s very, very specific, I imagine it will be on the 26th – keep in mind Thursday is Thanksgiving, which is a holiday, so I would be shocked if anyone was working at MAC and could change it. But again, I really have no idea.
I want it just because… but I have snob & I think if I mix All Styled Up & Lavendar Whip I should be fine.

chatterbox and sweetie are pretty and sweetie is my fav mac lipstick. the rest of the colors are not for me and do not appear flattering.

I have to say, I’m kind of amused at how many people ‘Loved It’ in the post with the artist wearing it, but after seeing the swatches have recoiled in horror. : )
Personally, this color would NEVER work for me. Its such a pale and sickly color, and frankly, does not remind me of Barbie at all.
The lipstick in the post pic looks nothing like the lipstick that Christine swatched, I think that’s why many are so disappointed. lol Well at least in my opinion.

I could just not see myself wearing this color AT ALL. It’s so bright and looks almost purple. Sometimes it’s hard seeing colors like this (Saint Germain, Gaga) on blogs because I haven’t seen anyone in real life wear these colors. Maybe it’s where I’m from, which is a Midwest city. If you own these types of lipsticks, where do you wear them to? I’m seriously curious!

Well, I have my answer to the age old question of “What would Pepto Bismol look like in lipstick form?” I don’t know how this could be flattering on any skin tone, unless it was toned down with gloss.

i was planning on getting this but thanks to this post now i won’t be. i have viva glam gaga, saint germain, lavender whip and at least 2 other similar colors before i realized overly blue based pinks give me a jaundice-y yellow tinge to my skin when i am naturally a more neutral, beige tone.

This color isn’t flattering at all. Also doesn’t compare to Pink Nouveau. I have Pink Nouveau (it’s a very popular shade where I live) and it’s more of a true medium pink (think Katy Perry in last year’s Grammy awards with the pink Basil Soda gown). This is more lilac-y. Definitely wouldn’t be able to pull this off. I’d really like to see someone who can, though. I don’t even like it on Nicki but that’s just me. But Chatterbox is gorgeous!

I compared this to pink nouvou and it is different. This shade is like Christine said a lot bluer and leans towards purlpe as opposed to nouvou that is very bright pink without being fusia. I consider nouvou to be more “barbie” pink than pink friday but that just me. I think pink friday would be a great color for the summer.

I have Viva La Glam in GaGa, and personally I think this looks nothing like it. Same sort of tones, but it’s much cooler and much lighter.
Out of curiousity, I mixed GaGa with Barry M in Marshmellow (101) and it looks exactly the same as this lipstick. It’s almost a dupe, but I’d much rather just buy this. I’m excited!

I’m getting it because it’s named Pink Friday and I don’t have any dupes in my collection for it…just gotta find out how I’m going to get it to work with my skin tone. Was able to work Gaga so we’ll see.
Why does this not have a letter grade? It’s a full review and other reviews I have read contain a grade. Kind of confused…???
I was in a huge rush because I was trying to get it up before class (if you read the first paragraph, I mention trying to get everything up ASAP) – I’ve got stuff to do all day and once I can sit down and edit, I surely will. I assumed a review + swatches + photos would be most helpful and really just focused on cropping photos and writing down thoughts and getting dupes together… sorry!

Is there special packaging with this lipstick? Like a box with Nicki’s signature similar to Gaga’s Viva Glam?

I kinda wanted this, but seeing how close it is to St Germain and Viva Gaga has made it an easy skip.
Plus, I HATE satins!
So blue based it’s almost lavender.
It’s too close to everything we already have! I know Nicki is very creative and likes to push the envelope, but she could have done so much with this opportunity.
I just can’t ever get behind colors like this, they’re just ugly :-\
dont care much for the color but my best friend loves nicky minage and the color pink so i’ll be sure to get this for her as a birthday/christmas present!

Its just turned 12am here in the UK so I ordered my pink friday lipstick straight away. im sure i will love it 🙂 i own snob and saint germain and also pink nouveau i love pink!
I’m a little disappointed in the color. I was hoping it would be a nice baby pink for Afr. Am with dark skin.
I really wish this wasn’t such a milky pink! I already have Snob and Gaga and never ever ever reach for them (even Angel is too light and blue-based for me), so as much as I love Nicki, I’m going to have to pass. It makes pale me with naturally pigmented lips look sort of… dead. :/
(Chatterbox and Sweetie have both joined my wishlist, though!)
At least Angel is so very sheer, and not even frosty at all, that it can be made workable with even just a little bit of lip pencil though.
I wasn’t interested in this at all before and it just looks awful swatched. Too bad I NEED Chatterbox, Fun fun and sweetie now

How on earth did this sell out already?! Ive been stalking the website for 2 days straight! I never even got the email alert that it was on sale. So maaaddd! Grrrrrr!
i had been stalking it all week and like 10 times before AND after midnight this morning, only to find it sold out. never got the email but i made sure to send a nice complaint to MAC 🙂
It was sold out within the first hour. I ordered mine closer to the midnight mark. Someone on twitter posted that MAC only had 3500 of the lipsticks for sale.

Well it was 12am EST when it went on sale….I got my order confirmation at 12:04AM EST. I ordered online.

Wow thanks for the swatches, I’m totally skipping this. I adore my viva glam gaga lipstick & lipgloss, but this is too similar. And anyway I am not a fan of Nicki Minaj.
Since it is sold out already- is it gone fir good? The ad said it would only be sold on those four select Fridays while supplies last. So if supplies are gone and it was limited edition- it’s gone -correct- like with the Lancime Proenza Pink color. By the way- what is a dupe of the Lancime Proenza Pink color?

I already have st. germain and viva glam gaga….skip. I was gonna get it but it’s almost identical so it’s a waste of $$$.

I think the color is nice and it all depends on your skintone as well as your personality and style. I own Saint Germain which looks similar to Pink Friday and I love it! I layer it over a creamy, purple color and I’ve gotten many, many compliments. It basically gives the look of Lavendar Whip. I’m a caramel skin color and yes I wear it very frequently everywhere and don’t see anything wrong with it.
