MAC Lush Life Mineralize Rich Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Lush Life Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “deep cool plum.” It’s a reddish berry with a soft sheen. I really thought it seemed similar to MAC Rebel, but applied, Rebel is purpler and deeper–it looks richer, in a way, on, because of the depth in color (if you own Rebel, pat on a little balm on top, and you’ll get this, though). Illamasqua Magnetism is a bit more muted, less red. Guerlain Guet-Apens is darker, more berry-hued. NARS Afghan Red is more subdued.

There’s a translucency to the overall color of Lush Life that makes it appear lighter on the lips than in the tube, and it kind of looks a bit like a lip stain (but not, because it is clearly a lipstick).  I thought this shade was very much a chameleon and changed its depth/brightness very much based on the lighting.  In my office, it looks darker, purpler (I have very cool light in my office), while in my bathroom, it looked redder and lighter (which has a ton of light, all of which runs warmer).  It’s interesting, though obviously frustrating from a photography standpoint!  It lasted for five hours, and it did leave a very faint stain behind.  The consistency was slightly creamy, not too slick but not dry, lightweight, and comfortable to wear.  So far, the range has been rather consistent in its texture and hydration (some).

Hi Christine–thank you so much for your color accurate reviews and descriptions. I had high hopes for this one, because I was guessing that this was the color used in that gorgeous MAC promotional image. As you know, promo images may be taken under circumstances that aren’t “real world,” like your images are. I’ll stick with Chanel Rivoli and Rouge Noir-maybe a combo will bring the color closer to the MAC picture (I hope so, anyway). Thanks again!

This color is totally beautiful! Uh-oh! MAC is really getting me with these new lipsticks because so many of the colors are colors I love. This could be bad for my pocketbook.

See this is what MAC needs to do……make more good quality permanent products!!!!
Little by little I will probably buy them all 🙂

Ooh, I like this a lot! It’s so hard to narrow down and figure out which one of these new lipsticks I want, ha – they all look gorgeous!

How do you think it compares to Tarina Tarantino conditioning lip sheen in Floriculture? Do you think they’re different enough to warrant getting both?

I totally agree, this looks just like Rebel + lip balm…which is one of the things I love about Rebel…it can be entirely different if you just sheer it out a bit.

Christine, this is a beautiful color that looks like a jewel on your lips. I don’t know that I could wear this color even though it’s my favorite of all of them. I have golden undertones. Would this look good on me?

Hello Christine 🙂
I own MAC Rebel, do you really think they totally look different when applied, cos i love how lush looks on you and to me it does seem different from Rebel. would you recomend people to have both lush and rebel?
