MAC Lunar Luck Eyeshadow x 9 Palette ($32.00 for 0.19 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette to celebrate the Lunar New Year. It includes nine shades split across five mattes and four shimmers. The mattes were consistently better-performing than the shimmers, though two shimmers were superb and one was a dud.

Shell We Celebrate
Shell We Celebrate is a medium peach with warmer, more orange-leaning undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, lightly powdery but blendable and not apt to sheer out too readily. It had mostly opaque color payoff that wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

The formula is supposed to have "pillow-soft, matte colour" that is "highly blendable" with "unbelievable slip" that has "stay-true colour" that doesn't fade, crease, or dry out the lids. The majority of the shades were pigmented, though a few were more semi-opaque and buildable.
The texture was soft, smooth, and slightly powdery in the pan--softer and more yielding than the standard MAC matte eyeshadow--but had more glide for better adhesion and blendability on bare skin. The eyeshadows stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.
They're thinner and a bit more powdery than the long-discontinued Matte2 formula, though it was more like that finish than the current, matte finish in the brand's permament range of eyeshadows. They were easier and more forgiving to work with than a lot of MAC's eyeshadows, so they were improved and a nice addition to the brand's range (they're also available as pan-only for less).

Born to Rule
Born to Rule is a rich, honeyed gold with moderate, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. The texture was moderately dense, almost overly so, which required a slightly heavier hand to pick up product evenly. It seemed to soften up a little over time. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation that lasted well for eight hours on me.

The formula is supposed to have "12-hour wear" with "silky smooth glide" and a "wet-like metallic texture." The pigmentation is supposed to have "one-swipe saturation," and most of the shades had nearly opaque to opaque coverage but a couple were more semi-opaque and buildable in coverage. The texture was lightly creamy, dense, and physically thicker than the average powder eyeshadow, and I found the thickness made them a little hard to work with, especially using a dry brush.
I had the best luck getting smooth, even coverage that didn't emphasize my lid texture with a lightly dampened brush or fingertips (though I preferred the precision a brush offered). Some shades looked more metallic and "molten" while others had a subdued sheen (which didn't seem fitting with the "Dazzleshadow Extreme" name, and on that note, these were not chocked full of sparkle in most instances, like Dazzleshadows are). I had faint creasing beginning between eight and 10 hours with most shades, while the color would be still be 70-75% intact after 12-hours of wear.

Made My Fortune is a medium gold with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was slightly drier and more prone to fallout as the sparkles did not adhere with the base as well. I’d recommend using a fingertip to press this shade into place, which helped control the fallout. It had mostly opaque, buildable color payoff that stayed on well for eight hours with light fallout over time.

Propitious Poppy
Propitious Poppy is a deep, orange-red with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had an incredibly smooth, finely-milled texture that wasn’t powdery but wasn’t overly firm in the pan. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage that lasted well for eight hours.

The formula is supposed to have "pillow-soft, matte colour" that is "highly blendable" with "unbelievable slip" that has "stay-true colour" that doesn't fade, crease, or dry out the lids. The majority of the shades were pigmented, though a few were more semi-opaque and buildable.
The texture was soft, smooth, and slightly powdery in the pan--softer and more yielding than the standard MAC matte eyeshadow--but had more glide for better adhesion and blendability on bare skin. The eyeshadows stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.
They're thinner and a bit more powdery than the long-discontinued Matte2 formula, though it was more like that finish than the current, matte finish in the brand's permament range of eyeshadows. They were easier and more forgiving to work with than a lot of MAC's eyeshadows, so they were improved and a nice addition to the brand's range (they're also available as pan-only for less).

Supreme Harmony
Supreme Harmony is a very light, pinky-plum with subtle, warm undertones and cooler flecks of sparkle. It had semi-sheer color payoff, which was the result of a drier, more crumbly texture that had lots of fallout during application. This shade was only viable when applied with a dampened brush. It had fallout over the six hours it lasted for.

The formula is supposed to have "12-hour wear" with "silky smooth glide" and a "wet-like metallic texture." The pigmentation is supposed to have "one-swipe saturation," and most of the shades had nearly opaque to opaque coverage but a couple were more semi-opaque and buildable in coverage. The texture was lightly creamy, dense, and physically thicker than the average powder eyeshadow, and I found the thickness made them a little hard to work with, especially using a dry brush.
I had the best luck getting smooth, even coverage that didn't emphasize my lid texture with a lightly dampened brush or fingertips (though I preferred the precision a brush offered). Some shades looked more metallic and "molten" while others had a subdued sheen (which didn't seem fitting with the "Dazzleshadow Extreme" name, and on that note, these were not chocked full of sparkle in most instances, like Dazzleshadows are). I had faint creasing beginning between eight and 10 hours with most shades, while the color would be still be 70-75% intact after 12-hours of wear.

Despite my not celebrating Lunar New Year, or any New Year festivities, I’m loving that MAC stuck with the Tiger theme here. It is mostly a perfect palette. But that one shimmer looks so pathetic in a sea of such good shades. Glitter glue primer may be able to make it work, though. Or, as you mentioned, a damp brush. Makes me want to buy ABH Soft Glam…
It’s nice to see MAC put out a new palette, although they completely spoilt it by putting in that dud shade, not aptly named Supreme Harmony. The palette is too warm for me, but Born to Rule and Wish Me Luck are stellar shimmers and I love those colours.
Trust me, I’ve got this territory covered..
