Lucky in Love

MAC Lucky in Love Lipstick ($18.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a more muted, medium-dark rosy coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a denser, slightly thicker consistency that didn’t drag too noticeably across my lips, but it was a bit firmer than I expected. The color went on evenly but the texture seemed to emphasize my lip lines and lip texture. It wore well for five hours but felt a little drying overall.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.1 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Lotus Light

MAC Lotus Light Lipstick ($18.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, medium red with cool, pinkish undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly emollient texture that was a little shiny but not overly wet, so it did not slide around while worn. The color adhered evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines. It stayed on nicely for five hours, left a faint stain behind, and was lightly hydrating over time.

On the high note, I am loving the ND Gold Palette eye look with these red-hued lipsticks!

But, on the other end, I feel like standing in a corner and banging my head on a wall. I feel so stupid, because this was one of those rare occasions when I didn’t wait for your review or I would have seen that I have 3 listed dupes for Lotus Light. Which, BTW, I was more concerned would overlap with my one more coral-red. Nope! But all my other favorite LE reds: Maria Moretti, Como La Flor, Yoni Crush. Add to that, I feel silly that I justified getting it because I mistakenly believed it would actually release online Monday the 31st and in-store the 3rd. In my mind, I told myself the delay wouldn’t be violating my low-buy. ?

These two shades are so pretty! I picked them up despite being afraid of wearing reds, but I find I can make them work if I lightly blot. The packaging is lovely, so I’m glad to add these to my collection.

Lotus Light is gorgeous (if a bit on the sheen-y side); fortunately for me, I probably have 3 or 4 reds in this general category.

My first thought when I saw your eye look was that you had used Juvia’s Place Warrior palette (I guess I assumed the blue was your signature eyeliner). I see now I was wrong, but I think I’ll have to find a stash equivalent to the blue and give this look a shot.

I purchased Lotus Lights last weekend and I absolutely love it. I’m so sorry its a LE because I want to wear this red forever. It’s the most beautiful red on my skin tone and it surprisingly doesn’t budge. The first time I wore it I had it on for about five hours while out and about (didn’t eat anything and only drank a bottle of water) and it didn’t fade at all. When it finally did wear down my lips were left with a truly lovely red stain that still looked nice. I want to purchase a couple more Lotus Lights so I’ll be able to wear it for a very long time. Oh and the packaging is stunning!
