MAC Girl Next Door Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches (Archie's Girls)

MAC Girl Next Door Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “vivid blue pink” with a Lustre finish. It’s a light-medium pink with blue undertones and white shimmer. Revlon Cupcake is pinker, not as white-based. MAC Love Long Distance is a darker pink with bluer undertones. MAC Annemiek is lighter, less pink. Chanel Candeur is a touch lighter. Guerlain Rose Innocent is also similar.

Being a Lustre finish, it is a sheerer shade; it yielded semi-sheer color payoff with a general translucency that enabled the natural lip color to come through. This lightened my natural lip color while boosting the natural pink tones.  I don’t have great experiences with Lustres, because they tend to be less forgiving on lips when applied (they seem to emphasize lip texture) and they can be drying when worn.  Girl Next Door applied decently and didn’t settle into lip lines, but it was a bit drying for the two and a half hours it lasted on my lips (the average non-long-wearing lipstick lasts around four hours on me).  The consistency was a little thin, so it pulled a touch when I applied it.

Hi Christine,

I love your reviews. I was trying to search for eye shadow palettes that you’ve rated highly. Is there a way to do this? If I search by eye products, I get too many products (good and bad) and if I search by rating then I get all types of products.

Pretty! I’ve been looking for a color like this for some time, but would you recommend it for really light and cool skin tones? I always go for pinks over corals but I’m having a hard time deciding between this one and “Betty Bright”!

Kiki1988 Avatar

Ok thanks for the advice! As much as I love “Betty Bright”, I think it might be a bit too bright for me because I am so pale 🙁 but I trust your judgement on this one! Also, I know you get a lot of these comments but thank you for your thorough and quick reviews! Really makes being a beauty addict with a budget much easier 🙂

I’m totally going to get this. In a way, it reminds me of Stroke of Lust, not necessarily because of the colour (it’s been so long I don’t quite remember what it was like!), but because nobody liked Stroke of Lust and yet I LOVED it so much.

Thanks for all your hard work 🙂
Do you think there’d be any point buying this lipstick if I already have pink popcorn (reel sexy) and beauty (glamourdaze) lipsticks?

Sydney Avatar

I’m so glad to hear this. I love pink popcorn, it’s one of my favorites. I just love the sheer color. I ordered Girl Next Door without a second thought and then was worried it would be too opaque and make me look washed out- However, I love it. Thanks so much for all the great reviews!

Christine, how does this compare to Viva Glam lady gaga? When I saw this , it reminded me of gaga, and snob.thanks for all your hard work, I’ve been waiting since July for this collection 🙂

this is beautiful on you! a sheer finish with milky colours like these looks so much better as compared to something as opaque as say, pink nouveau or saint germain.

For anyone on the fence about buying this because it seems to sheer….I wore it today and it is buildable to a more opaque pink. It’s a fun color to wear!

Hi Christine! Because of your review on ysl rouge volupte-I also bought the YSL lingerie pink and i love it! my skintone NC15-nc20 warm, do you think this will work on me? will be this (girl next door) too lilac on me? will it be look familiar with my lingerie pink, creme cup? i have a lustre finish in cut a caper, so far i like the coverage. Thanks so much Christine! Hope to hear from you.
