MAC Archie's Girls Nail Lacquers Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Archie’s Girls Nail Lacquers ($17.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) include four shades: Comic Cute (bright coral), Double Trouble (deep navy), Past Curfew (deep berry), and Pep Pep Pep (light peach nude). As an important note: they do NOT have any designs on the actual bottle; the caps are white but that’s it (promo images showed Betty/Veronica on the glass itself).  I purchased these, so it’s not a problem with an early run or anything like that.

Comic Cute is a pop of medium pink with yellow undertones and a cream finish. It was opaque in two coats, and the consistency was slightly thick. MAC Please Me is a touch darker. OCC Extravaganza is darker and has shimmer.

Double Trouble is a deep, dark, navy blue with a cream finish. It was mostly opaque after two coats, but there was some underlying translucency. It wasn’t too thick or too thin, but it was a bit streaky when I first applied it. shu uemura Bleu Splendor is similar. Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like is lighter. ORLY La Playa is very similar.

Past Curfew is a darkened red with hints of berry and pink in it with a cream finish. It was opaque after two coats, and it was the best-applying shade out of the four. China Glaze Merry Berry is redder. MAC Dangerously Fun is much redder. Dior Graphic Berry is very similar. Essie Size Matters is also very comparable.

Pep Pep Pep is a pale peach with a cream finish. It was somewhat opaque after two coats, but it was a little streaky and uneven. The consistency was very thick and almost gloppy. MAC Life & Beth is just a touch darker.

MAC’s brush continues to be problematic and exacerbate any formula issues a shade has, because the bristles are very roughly cut and stiff. Two of the bottles had some splayed bristles as well. At $17.50 (and for 0.34 fl. oz.!), you can’t have those kinds of issues!  I know–broken record–but the price point of MAC’s polishes is absolutely killer and the quality is frequently not there.  The only shade that was worth thinking about was Past Curfew, except a berry-red cream is very, very dupable. I typically get a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chipping with MAC’s formula, which is the most consistent thing about them.

These look rather terrible. MAC needs to drop their prices on nail polish. I can get an OPI, Zoya or butter London polish for less than this and get a good quality one. Also, none of these colors are that special. If you are going to have a special polish, a creme isn’t really the way to go. PASS

Double Trouble is a dead ringer for Revlon Royal, which is actually being DC’d and is on clearance at stores.
I’m wearing Royal right now 🙂

Totally agree. Those colours look so basic – dupes are already available in all colours.

Also, I don’t understand why MACs pricing on the rest of their stuff has shot through the roof in recent years..buying just two things from MAC costs the same as buying a new dress. I really don’t think its worth it.

I feel like I have very, very similar colors to all of these already! The only MAC polish I’ve ever tried belonged to a friend of mine, and I’ve gotten better results out of a $2 bottle of polish in a similar color!

i refuse to buy mac anymore mac polishes, ive tried several and each one has chipped within 2 days of wearing them i’ve tried using a base coat, no base coat, different top coats and don’t have this problem with any other polish, which is too bad because their colors are so pretty but the quality is terrible!

Pep Pep Pep is beautiful, pity about the quality (especially as these are the only products in the collection I’d consider purchasing as they aren’t in silly tacky packaging) I must check the swatch gallery for a dupe!

I feel like Cosmo Kramer could really express my feelings about this more eloquently then I. Additionally, on the site it says these have the special packaginging. Did you purchase these ones? Or were these the PR samples? MAC, we all understand you are desirous of profiting off the nail polish boom of the last few years, however I see your mouth but I see NO money!

Oh boy! and there’s even the licensing price hike, for a white cap?!? I need some smelling salts.. I want to B2M my boxes for $1.50 worth of product. I’ll be on Hoarders, drowning in LE MAC packaging..fire fighters digging through little boxes of Chen Man, Shop! Cook!, Venomous Villains, Wonder Woman, Give me Liberty of London to find me pancaked underneath… muttering about special NiB packaging

I like to collect MAC “special design” nail polishes. So what you’re saying is that I waited to add the Betty&Veronica nail lacquers for no reason??!?!?

The colours are nice, but the quality looks dreadful… MAC products are expensive enough as it is, and I wouldn’t dream of splurging so much money on low quality products.

The colors are nice, but the price cant be justified with colors that are so dupeable. I noticed that Pep-Pep was a bit watery and streaky, as well. MAC relies on their cult following to buy whatever they’re selling that they sometimes disappoint on quality and innovation. I’m in the market for a few new pinks for Spring, and I’ll probably pick up a shade like Comic Cute, but I can easily find a less expensive one just like it. I loves me some blues but Spring is on the way. Don’t we already have enough dark blues to last us until next season? Why not make the colors as quirky as the characters they represent? Think the Disney Villains collection – they did the characters justice, but I just don’t see that here.

Man, MAC! The other day I pulled out my pink polish from the Chen Man collection and was reminded of what I already knew: MAC polishes suck. They just do. Too thick, streaky, what have you…..give me a bottle of $8 Zoya ANY day over these overpriced disasters.
Sorry but….the nerve!!

Hey there! I actually bought Comic Cute last Thursday in a Pro Store and my bottle actually does have a Betty Decal…I’m beginning to wonder if I got a special bottle!

n8ivebeauT Avatar

An affordable dupe very close to Comic Cute is Sally Hansen’s Coral Reef. It’s a bit more “neon” but a very close dupe. At just a little over $3, that most certainly justifies buying it rather than the MAC $17 bottle that doesn’t have a quality to live up to. Just sayin’……….

Essie’s A Crewed Interest is an EXACT dupe for Pep Pep Pep, I know because I owned them both. When I realized they were exactly the same I returned the Mac one. The sad thing is they both have a crap formula. For reference open two tabs, type in Essie A Crewed Interest into Google images and then Mac Pep Pep Pep in the other tab and compare pics, they are the same. As someone who had them both, they are exactly the same in person as well. No difference at all, not even in tone (warm vs cool).

Still haven’t shopped at Mac in the longest time and this is the reason why. Colors easily dupe-able and find-able in current collection! Can’t tell you how many deep creme blues like Double trouble and pinks like comic cutie I’ve seen and at a cheaper price. Not going to bash it completely, the colors are nice and beautiful. Just not worth the 17.50.
