MAC Dreaming Dahlia Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “sheer red-coral [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a muted, medium orange-coral with a luminous shine. It had semi-sheer color coverage, which applied evenly and smoothly. The consistency was lightly creamy, while the color lasted three hours on me. Givenchy Brun Createur (103) (P, $36.00) is more matte, muted. Too Faced Coral Fire (P, $21.00) is darker, brighter, more matte. Givenchy Croisiere Coral (310) (LE, $36.00) is slightly lighter, more matte. See comparison swatches.

Fleur d’Coral Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pale creamy peach [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light peach with warm undertones and a luminous shine. It had semi-sheer pigmentation when applied to lips. If you have warmer lips, this may look more true peach applied, but my corpse-like natural coloring made it look cooler when applied. I wish it applied just a bit more evenly, but it is a shade that shows “lines” if you press your lips together at all. I noticed some of the color settled into lip lines after an hour of wear, and the color lasted two hours on me (average lipstick lasts four hours). Marc Jacobs Beauty Pout (142) (LE, $30.00) is more matte, warmer. Chanel Melba (75) (LE, $34.00) is sheerer. MAC Woo Me (LE, $18.00) is glossier, more opaque. Make Up For Ever #N40 (P, $19.00) is similar in color. See comparison swatches.

Heavenly Hybrid Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone berry [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a luminous shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage–more pigmented than the typical Lustre finish–and wore well for four hours. Givenchy Croisiere Fuchsia (309) (LE, $36.00) is more matte. Revlon Fuchsia Shock (P, $7.99) is brighter. MAC Midnight Mambo (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned, more shimmery. Revlon Lollipop (P, $7.49) is shimmery, darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Naked Bud Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “neutral sheer nude [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light, peachy-beige with a golden sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff, and it wore for an hour and a half on me–just very quick to vanish. It is a shade that will show some lines if you press your lips together. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is more opaque. MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

Rose Lily Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “sheer pastel pink [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light, cool-toned pink with blue undertones and a luminous shine. It had semi-sheer color coverage that wasn’t quite even when applied. It was also a shade that was difficult to keep even-looking, as the minute your lips touched, you could see where they were! The color wore well for two and a half hours on me. NARS Stourhead (LE, $25.00) is lighter. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, slightly darker. NARS Roman Holiday (P, $26.00) is brighter, darker. MAC Dreaminess (P, $22.00) is not as blue-based. See comparison swatches.

Snapdragon Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone blue pink [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light-medium pink with moderate blue undertones and icy pink shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff when applied to lips. This shade lasted for three hours on me but felt rather clingy. NARS Villa Lante (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, lighter. MAC What a Feeling! (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Obsessed (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter. NARS Roman Holiday (P, $26.00) is less shimmery. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

MAC’s Lustre formula is drying in my experience; my lips were dry and chapped after wearing all of these back-to-back. Some readers find Lustres hydrating, others are more neutral, and some find them drying. If you have good luck with Lustres generally, then I’m sure you’ll be just fine, as these feel very par for the course for the formula.

I LOVE love love everything-definitely all beautifully paired!

When you use a liquid highlighter (like above), is it always better to use a finishing powder? It doesn’t “mute” the highlight too much? Or do you only powder certain areas of the face?

Lara Avatar

Not saying anything new…but you are amazingly hardworking ! MAC has become the Forever 21 of makeup it seems–mind numbing numbers of new items, here today gone tomorrow (I’m not referring specifically to these lipsticks). I personally am getting too old to keep up w/MAC, but it’s total fun to read your reviews, as always. Happy year of the horse btw.

fancie Avatar

I started off only wanting Snapdragon but now I think I want Dreaming Dahlia and Heavenly Hybrid now too. I’m not the biggest fan of lustres but I loved wearing Flamingo, Razzledazzler and Altered Beige over the summer so it’s worth a try! I need to check out Fleur d’Coral and Naked Bud in person. I think I want one of those too lol

A Name Avatar

I wish that Dreaming Dahlia was an Amplified Creme – I don’t like sheer lipsticks ’cause my top lip is much browner than my bottom.

Esme Avatar

Why did MAC have to make all of these lipsticks Lustres? It’s by far my least favorite formula of the MAC formulas I’ve tried. I get that sheer = spring in many people’s eyes, but I think some of these shades (especially Dreaming Dahlia and Heavenly Hybrid) would have looked so much better as Amplified Cremes.

tzwiggy Avatar

I am very happy that these are lustres, it’s the only MAC formula that applies evenly on me and actually sticks to my buttom lip. There are plenty of opaque bright lipsticks out there, but sheer brights are a bit harder to come by (at least by MAC). I think Dreaming Dahlia and Heavenly Hybrid are great for those who are used to MLBB shades but maybe waant to transition into something with a bit more color.

Dani Avatar

IIt seems that I may be one of the few that like sheer lipsticks. I’m so glad to see them! I feel like there aren’t enough choices for those of us that don’t want in your face pigment..

ShannonE Avatar

Bummed I didn’t/couldn’t get Heavenly Hybrid, but I have Lollipop and they do look pretty similar. I tend to have pretty good success with the Lustres, so glad I picked up Rose Lily and Snapdragon. But I do have Devine Choice as well… LOVE those pinks!

Audrey Avatar

I NEED Dreaming Dahlia. I love all of the colors in this collection for everyday wear. I’ve really liked this collection, as a whole, from everything that I’ve seen so far (lips, blushes, pigments and so on) and I don’t normally get excited about MAC collections. I actually only have one LE eyeshadow from a MAC collection and it was from the the Hey, Sailor collection.

Carol Avatar

Why is it that every lipstick that looks purple ends up being pink? By the group shot I thought I’d love Heavenly Hybrid, but it’s… pink.

Carrie Avatar

I’m one of the people who love Lustres (they’re one of the only lipsticks that are comfortable to wear on my naturally dry lips), so I’m excited about brand new shades. Dreaming Dahlia is lovely!

Reiko Avatar

Hey, Christine.I actually really like these lipsticks. I want to try Dreaming Dahlia, Fleur dCoral, and Rose Lily. Just wondering but how does Rose Lily compare to Viva Glam GaGa anf Girl Next Door? And how about Fleur dCoral to Sweet and Sour?

Leslie-Marie Avatar

I am SO GLAD I got Snapdragon before it sold out on the website! I got backups too. I LOVE IT! It reminds me of my beloved Bubblegum from Spring Forecast. Yes, a different finish but the color is the same and that makes this girl happy!!

tzwiggy Avatar

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy now. I ordered all of these as soon as they came up on MAC’s website, terrified that they would sell out within minutes. Then I started to worry because lip products are very tricky for me, so I very rarely order lipstick when I haven’t seen any swatches. All I knew before I ordered them was that they sounded great from the description and that Lustres work great for me, not super moisturizing, but not drying either. I LOVE all of these! Like really really love! Can’t wait for them to arrive. 😀

Kris Avatar

I hate the lustre formula, but I want snapdragon and rose lily.. so I’ll have to bite the bullet and colour my lips in with hip n happy and then put them over that to be more opaque. Hate sheer lipstick, but they’re cute colours. Probably dupeable, but whatever.

Xero Avatar

The way these look remind me of the Revlon Shine lipsticks. I really like Dreaming Dahlia but I’m not sure I’d be willing to pay $15 for it.

xamyx Avatar

I prefer sheer lipsticks for everyday wear, and Fleur D’Coral & Naked Bud are shades I’m drawn to, but not being a huge fan of how MAC lipsticks sit on my lips, I don’t think I can be bothered to put in the effort to track them down… Snapdragon is surprisingly pretty swatched/applied, and just looking at the color in the tube, I’d just walk past it!

artemis Avatar

I love how they look on the lips 😀 and the pigment(tho maybe they’d be different on a bit more darker lip colors). The first one is really gorgeous on you <3 the price and drying factor+not that long lasting don't justify buying these, anyway :))

Jill Avatar

I ordered Dreaming Dahlia last night after seeing your lovely swatch of it! Super saturated lipsticks don’t work well on me so I have a feeling this will be my perfect spring/summer color 🙂 Thank you so much for the review!

Oh, thought you should know, for some reason on Mac’s website the price of these lipsticks is showing up as $16, not $15.

Pamilla The SoloTravelMuse Avatar

I’ve been waiting for your review with color swatches…I was kind of bummed that heavenly hybrid sold out so quickly online, but I think I really like the dreaming of dahlia. I like that they’re sheer, I have a lot of amplified, matte, and satin finishes, it’s nice to change up from the bold look. Great review and swatches

kastehelmi Avatar

Thanks so much for these swatches Christina! This is the first time I ever manage to snag some MAC limited edition lippies before they sell out at every online retailer (thankfully I got to Nordstrom before Heavenly Hybrid went to “backordered status.)

Heavenly Hybrid, Dreaming Dahlia, Snapdragon all look like must-haves to me, and Naked Bud is very beautiful too, though I will have to see if it will be as beautiful on my bronzer skintone in all of its subtlety–so I ordered that one too 🙂 I love the look of Fleur d’Coral, but I think that one might be too dupeable. I love pigmented lipsticks, but sheer lipsticks make the lips look so healthy and give that glossy look without looking too shiny. It looks like there are no permanent lustre finish lipsticks…?

Stephanie Avatar

i ordered Dreaming Dahlia and Snapdragon and LOVE THEM. It was like an A-HA! moment putting DD on, it made my entire face light up and my skin look a little tanner lol corals really work for me (NC23-ish)….I agree with everybody else that MAC should have done more of a mixed bag with the formulas, Luster’s are very few ppls cup of tea 🙁 Snapdragon is very beautiful too, it showed up very well on me with about 3 layers and was just luminous.

Christine Avatar

Altered Beige is less warm-toned, lighter, a little shimmery. Fresh & Frisky is way, way darker. Fashion Force is much darker than Fleur d’Coral!

I just bought naked bud last night and was wondering what the “7N” was for under the name. It’s on the box under the name and on the lipstick tube under the name also??? Just curious if you knew? Thanks!

Amelia Avatar

Thanks for this review! I know you always include dupes, but how close is ‘Rose Lily’ to ‘Budding Love’ or the 2013 ‘Lavender Whip’? Thanks! X
