MAC Consensual & Love U Back Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Consensual
MAC Consensual Lipstick ($18.50 for 0.1 oz.) is a dark, chocolaty brown with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. The texture was denser, a bit firmer in the tube, but it warmed up against my lips and applied with just a touch of tugging (nothing painful). It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly and stayed out of my lip lines. The lipstick stayed on well for five hours and was non-drying.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Love U Back
MAC Love U Back Lipstick ($18.50 for 0.1 oz.) is a light-medium, muted pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin sheen. The lipstick had a slightly thicker, creamier texture that was comfortable to apply but prone to separating along my lip lines and pulling color into them. It had rich pigmentation that went on evenly that lasted for four and a half hours on me. The formula felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

I find the use of the term “consensual” to name a lipstick is really icky! I feel like it’s flippant, since consent is literally the bare minimum. I just don’t want any association with language that’s used in a legal discussion regarding sex.
Absolutely agree Hayley – when are brands going to grow up? So very tacky.
I was looking forward to seeing Love U Back, but it looks so much lighter on the lips than in the tube. And, though I love MAC Satins, I see what you mean about the texture. Money saved!
MAC offering nude lipstick shades in a vastly inclusive range that is also PERMANENT was a very good and much appreciated move! While neither of these particular shades would be for me, I’m still very pleased that at least Consensual did very well. Love U Back may just be alright on those with pinky lips and Pinker complexions, I’m guessing.
Quite like the shade of Consensual, but the awful connotations of the name puts me off.
What did you use on your eyes and cheeks!? So pretty!
