MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches (Archie's Girls)

MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick
MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick

MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep blackened plum” with a Cremesheen finish. It’s a purple-wine with a glossy sheen. MAC Dramatic Encounter is browner. Chanel L’Impatiente is redder and matte. MAC Rebel is more of a berry, brighter, not as vampy. Thierry Mugler Dream is slightly lighter. Urban Decay Apocalypse is purpler. Dolce & Gabbana Lust is purpler, browner.

It settles into lip lines, and it looks a bit more like a stain than a lip color. I think it would look better applied, blotted, and left as a residual stain or else topped with a gloss on top, because it can look somewhat uneven on its own.  The consistency has a slick feel, but I still find that Cremesheens kind of drag on the lips; I think it might be that the texture is on the thinner side.  It wore for three and a half hours, and it was noticeably drying–which is par for the course with my experience wearing Cremesheens.  I know other readers have better luck and find them hydrating, so consider how your lips react to the finish.

What a shade to call “boyfriend stealer”, LOL. I highly doubt men around the world will find that lip colour attractive or even nice for that matter 😀

On some level, I think many of us wear make up to look good for the opposite sex, even if we don’t consciously admit to it 😛 ..I mean really, if there’s a guy I like I would probably try to look my best to try and attract him..

But in any case, this lipstick is called “boyfriend stealer” so obviously, said boyfriend should be attracted to you in order to be “stolen”.. and GABIS was simply saying that this particular colour is not very attractive to men

Dali Avatar

Men like confidence. If you feel good and confident wearing a lipstick, no matter what color it is, men will respond. Hey they will even respond when you wear no makeup and feel confident. Personally, my boyfriend loves it when I look vampy as well as natural. It all depends on how “you” wear it. Btw I love this color! 🙂

LOL I completely agree! When I saw this shade being called “boyfriend stealer” I scratched my head a bit.. to me, a lipstick shade with such a name should be a nude

Kat Avatar

I really think MAC just gave the lipstick its name because it is Veronica’s signature color and she’s known for “stealing” Archie from Betty time and time again. Real-life men vary greatly in what they like/don’t like on a woman – not that their opnions ever mattered to me :).

Lol I agree with everyone saying that it is a very weird color to call boyfriend stealer, most of my male aquintances think the best look is no makeup, but they tolerate or even like sheer berry lipsticks, pink lipsticks and more natural looks, so even though this is nice the name is very far from the truth lol.

I agree to people who say “who cares”? (personally, even if i like a guy, I’ll make sure to wear what I like even if he may not like it, and deliberately say what I think and suspect him to make a reaction to – nothing worse than a relationship where the woman suppresses her own identity in and becomes a shadow of herself to please some guy IMO)

Also, there are many men who love the look of a strong lip. Will forever love my Daddy, who for highschool prom, despite my Mom saying my red red lips looked “garish” told me he loved colour and I looked fab (he’s been trying to get my Mom to wear strong lips for as long as I can think, but she just won’t – which is perfectly fine if she doesn’t; I think my Dad likes the strong lips because my Grandma never left the house without bright (or dark) lipstick on 🙂 ).

Wow, Christine…this color looks gorgeous on you! I don’t think I would like it on myself much, but I really love all the purples on you!

I can’t help but want all the Veronica products out of nostalgia.

It’s unfortunate about the quality of this one, I loved the shade. I do like how this looks glossy- what kind of gloss did you put over it?

Audrey Avatar

Despite the mediocre review, I really like this. The shade is beautiful. It seems really similar to Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey… except dryer and a stronger color payoff.

Mary Avatar

I love the color and it looks beautiful on you. I don’t even mind the sheerness…I usually only wear gloss. If I had prettier lips I would probably get this one.

amanda Avatar

This looks pretty similar to Urban Decay’s Confession lipstick (or at least how Confession looks on me). Now I feel as though I don’t need this shade. My wallet is safe 🙂

I see that most of the lipsticks from this MAC collection are sold out online. I’m happy I was able to get a few before having to wait for the dept. store launches.

Jules Avatar

The first picture of the article attracted me, I was curious how it would look put on. The end result is pretty nice, I really like the color, didn’t quite expect it, just looking at the lipstick. But this type of shades should be definitely hydrating. Dark colors look awful on dried lips…

Samantha Avatar

This reminds me of a slightly pinker version of OCC Black Dahlia. This is pretty, but I was hoping for a more dark dark purple payoff. Any suggestions?

Elizabeth K. Avatar

This just seems like the wrong color for a cremesheen. I love colors like this, but I wish they’d made it in the Amplified finish.

Jennie Avatar

This is such a beautiful lipstick shade! I can’t wait to wear it to college. I’m not interested in stealing any boyfriends or attracting men with it. I wear makeup for myself. 🙂

chris Avatar

I have both of those. Espionage is way redder, Oh Currant could look close to the shade family but is very dark and very opaque!

kiran Avatar

That seriously has nothing that can steal away a boyfriend. MAC should really take good time to consider before they assign names to their lipsticks.

Bari Avatar

I wore this today and I was happy as a clam:). I love dark vampy colors and this was great over some Chapstick which sheered it out quite a bit.

Jennie Avatar

Me too! It looked absolutely amazing on me. Very goth-like. I actually built mine up to full coverage (and it didn’t feel drying at all). 😀

Dee Avatar

Hi! Is boyfriend stealer like mac most popular? Just because I have it and don’t want to buy boyfriend stealer if they very similar! If anyone knows I would appreciate it xx

Melissa Avatar

I love MAC, but as gorgeous as this shade is, it is 100% dupable. NYX Round Lipstick in Almost Black is a good dupe, as well as Revlon’s Va Va Violet. If the dupes are too rich in colour (and when is that ever a bad thing?), then just sheer it a bit with clear gloss.

Claudia Avatar

I absolutely love this shade! I do agree however that it is a little drying for my lips also. The girl at the Mac counter applied this on top of the a dark red lip liner and it looked amazing! It was vampy lips and so stunning, I got a lot of compliments 🙂
