MAC All About Orange Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)

MAC Razzledazzler Lipstick
MAC Razzledazzler Lipstick

MAC Razzledazzler Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light cream peach [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a lightly pink-tinted, light-medium coral with a luminous sheen. It has mostly opaque color payoff but there is an underlying translucency and slight sheerness that is more Lustre-like. This lasted two and a half hours on me. Tom Ford Frolic is warmer, sheerer. MAC Style Surge is brighter, warmer. MAC Reel Sexy is lighter, pinker. MAC In a Heart Beat is lighter. MAC Cut a Caper is pinker. MAC Coral Bliss is slightly lighter. MAC So Vain is similar. Estee Lauder Naked is lighter and more matte. Burberry Devon Sunset is less pink. See comparison swatches.

Tart & Trendy ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright neutral orange cream [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a brightened, medium orange with a luminous finish and warm, slightly yellow undertones. It had mostly opaque color payoff with just a bit of sheerness–but it was definitely more pigmented than the average Lustre (which may be a happy accident for some!). I started my morning off wearing this, and it lasted three and a half hours on me. It felt somewhat drying (which is my typical experience with Lustres, so if you usually find them moisturizing, then we have opposite experiences, on average). Maybelline Electric Orange is redder in tone and a bit darker. MAC Booyah is slightly darker and more red-toned. MAC Good to Go has a strong red undertone and is darker. MAC Fashion Nomad is bit brighter/more intense. MAC Sounds Like Noise is lighter, yellower. MAC Saigon Summer is more muted and sheerer (which contributed to how much more muted it looked in comparison). MAC Morange is darker and redder. See comparison swatches.

Neon Orange ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright clean orange [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a bold, medium orange with strong, warm red undertones and a natural sheen. It had full, opaque color coverage, and it was lightly creamy. This shade is permanent at PRO stores (and regular customers now have access to the majority of the PRO range online). I’ve had this on for nearly four hours, and it’s still going strong. Shades like Maybelline Orange Edge, Maybelline Vibrant Mandarin, MAC Good to GoMAC Morange, and OCC Psycho are all rather comparable to each other. Shades like Maybelline Electric Orange, MAC Booyah, and MAC Fashion Nomad are a bit lighter, less reddened. Then, shades like MAC Scarlet ibis and MAC Sail La Vie are slightly redder and appear a bit darker. See comparison swatches.

Flamingo ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light milky bright coral [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a pink-tinged coral with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a slight, underlying translucency that gave it a lighter look applied to the lips (not as heavy-looking as an opaque, creamy shade). This shade is a bit of a chameleon, and it will really go pinker/more coral depending on your natural lip color.  It lasted just over two and a half hours on me.  theBalm Strawbery is pinker, darker. NYX Stella is a bit pinker. MAC Blossom Culture is slightly darker. MAC Sunny Seoul is darker and pinker. MAC Cut-a-Caper is warmer. MAC Coral Bliss is lighter, less pink. MAC Betty Bright is brighter. Guerlain Rose Desir is warmer, less pink. Chanel Flirt is more muted. See comparison swatches.

I’m also wondering if these will look good on me. I’m NC50 and sometimes the paler, coral colors look so pretty in the tube but then look awful (Tyrone Biggums awful) on my lips because my lips are rather pigmented. I do have some corals — Reel Sexy, Cut a Caper, Betty Bright — and I find that I have to warm the color up by using it with a neutral or brown lipliner and sheer it out, then apply clear or coral/orange gloss on top. Like Kumquat, one of my all time fave MAC Lg. The bolder, deeper coral/oranges like Sail la Vie look good on me, but I have to be feeling extra bold that day to pull it off! If you want to try If anyone has tips for how to wear coral/orange lipstick on darker skin tones, I would love to hear about it! As always, thanks Christine!

LOL @ tyrone biggums. same struggle. i feel like flamingo, tart and tardy, razzledazzler, and neon orange would work. did you get sounds like noise?

Kesha Avatar

I ordered Sounds Like Noise with all of these lippies…had been eyeing it since it came out so I figured I might as well add it to the haul. MAC thinks I’m NC 45 but I think I’m some sort of mix below that because every NC 45 I have tried is orange on me.

I love the way orange lipstick looks on you. Tart and Trendy and Neon Orange look great on you. Totally jealous you look so good in it.

Flamingo is the only one I wanted because of its similarity to Coral Bliss and Sunny Seoul, both of which have been in my MAC online shopping bag for weeks. Now I have three of them in my shopping bag and I can’t decide which to buy.

chris Avatar

Hi christine! I am SO glad you posted these today. cannot wait for them to launch online in Europe.. will be getting probably all lipsticks.

Your swatch comparisons blow me away! They catapult you from the best beauty blog I know to undoubtedly the best there possibly is by far!

What I noticed is that for last year’s Mac lipstick additions to the permanent line (from what I know) like Coral Bliss, Sheer Mandarin, etc. you have them marked as LE for now?

Tamara Avatar

I really love Flamingo, but I don’t know if it will look good on me. I am NC20. I wanted to ask actually. I have never bought from New collections meaning I try and avoid the hustle and bustle of a new launch, however for Flamingo I will. Will Macys carry these products too? Like the day that it is released instore or do their come afterwards? Also is it crazy packed? Am I better off calling ahead to see if they still have a item in stock because I know online they sell out within hours. Anyone able to answer this for me, would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Tamara Avatar

Awesome. Great to know. Do the Macy’s counters usually carry the whole line of collections or bits and pieces? In your opinion is it better to brave the MAC store itself or go to the counters? Thank you so much for your reply Christine! I have never actually had a conversation with you. I feel so cool now..LOL!! 🙂 Thank you for your hard work.

Ericka Avatar

I feel feverish! Oh, gosh. I think Razzledazzler and Tart and Trendy may work for me. I’m going to wait for the store release. I need to try on!

Lark Avatar

For you ladies who missed out to sell out, I’m not buying any of these. In the Dark Ages of 1980 we took two lipsticks, applied both, got a shade we wanted. I’m very cool toned, in fact a blue. I have a Morange lipstick off the rack at MAC, very orange! I’ll add pink to temper it. Or red, whatever. Mixing orange red pinks and gold can’t go wrong!

It’s just so much inventory to buy a bunch of lip colors that turn bad. I have 38 lipsticks, if I can’t mix a color it’s just lame. I have a big color range, MAC classics, no more fighting crowds.

I was able to snag Tart and Trendy because that’s the only thing that I want aside from Sushi Kiss. 🙁 I am sad that Sushi Kiss was sold out so fast! Goodness. 🙁 Lustre does not dry my lips, I have See Sheer and I like the formula. 🙂

Got Honey Jasmine Blush as well, can’t wait to try them.

Thanks for these swatches and review Christine.

teresa Avatar

Christine, just wondering what your foundation is at the moment? I’m an Asian NC37 and occasionally kind of ruddy so wondering if Razzledazzler and Flamingo might look a little weird on me.

stacey Avatar

I bought one lipstick…from the Hayley collection…sounds like noise….and that is the only orange I am going to get. I like Mac’s matte lipstick….no other texture….after looking at all these orange…my eyes have gone cockeyed….cannot tell them apart. And yes, like Lark says, mix and match at home like in the dark ages….you’ll get a combo of something you’ll like.

EmJay Avatar

I misread when the collection was gonna be online and missed Razzledazzler. 🙁 Is this gonna be available on Macy’s and Nordstrom so I have a second shot?

Kailan Avatar

I’m SO excited for this collection. I’ve been obsessed with orange/coral this season. Probably going to get Razzledazzler and Flamingo! WIsh they weren’t sold out online already though! 🙁

beck Avatar

OK I just tried the famous Flamingo today, picked it up the other day could not believe Macy’s still had it in stock. While it looks gorgeous in the tube, It is not very pigmented and it totally parched my lips. Not a fan sorry Flamingo.

Valerie Avatar

Hey Christine :), This isn’t part of the review but I was browsing around for lipsticks and such, and I noticed that in the “dupe list” for Flamingo, Sunny Seoul & Blossom Culture are marked as LE, they’re actually permanent 🙂

Oh while I’m leaving a comment about lipsticks, I know this post is a few months old now but does anyone know that website that has MAC lipstick colours that aren’t available anymore? They’re not the actual mac lipstick sold, it’s the colour that they “extracted/ sampled” and duplicate them.
