With just under 90 shades reviewed this year, there was some variety to choose from, but definitely not a standout year for liquid lipsticks, especially matte ones!

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2021, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out the best of 2020 posts if you missed last year’s.)

Temptalia’s Favorite Liquid Lipsticks | 2021

Your Year in Review: Liquid Lipstick Edition

I thought it would be interesting to read through how readers used products throughout the year, what favorites emerged, what products fell by the wayside… so, if you want to join in, copy and paste the questions below and add your answers via a comment!

  • What was your most used liquid lipstick? Least used?
  • Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new?
  • Was liquid lipstick a big part of your routine in 2021?

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Liquid lipsticks have been my friend during the pandemic! They are usually the lipsticks I will wear more often than tube style. Favorites have been: Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Vintage Rosewood, Endless Purple, Auburn Prestige and Blaze Of Glory, MAC Selena Siempré Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolor, and Sugarpill Strange Love.
Not as sure about my two Rare Beauty liquid lipsticks for nice, even wear under my mask, unfortunately. I have Brave and Heroic.
Pretty sure the first mentioned will all stay in heavy rotation through 2022 due to Covid.

Whenever you provide a total for the number of products in a particular category you have reviewed for the year Christine – I am gobsmacked about the sheer volume of hard, hard work you have done on this blog for us readers. Thank you so, so much.

Although I am not a liquid lipstick fan and don’t own any, I do like Tried and True by CP and Marrakesh Me Later by MAC.

I just want a red that will stay in and not peel away at the center of my mouth, or dry my lips out. I beginning to think pencils maybe the way to go with thin lips.

What was your most used liquid lipstick? Least used? I think I only own 3 liquid lipsticks and I don’t like any of them. The least dreadful was one Always Red from Sephora.
Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new? Nope – liquid lipsticks are not something I’ve grown to love at all.
Was liquid lipstick a big part of your routine in 2021? I don’t think I used a single one of the 3 I own.

Liquid lipsticks have gotten very little love from me this year, same as last year. I’m usually at home and I’m usually wearing a thick layer of balm or gloss. Most days I pop on a lipstick, but it’s always the bullet kind. It sucks because I have some real flattering colors from Melt’s undertone noods (omg fawn is a glory on my skin), a deep blackened teal from Sugarpill, and a handful of reds, like Nars American Woman or KVD Nosferatu (terrible formula, great color) that are stunning.
