KKW Beauty Classic Blossom Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Classic Blossom
KKW Beauty Classic Blossom 10-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.60 oz.) contains a mix of rose and red-tinged neutrals from pale peach to red to deep plum. While the texture of most of the mattes was incredibly silky, it did result in some powderiness and not all shades were richly pigmented–some were buildable and others definitely needed primer underneath them. The shimmer formula was inconsistent as some shades were quite nice to work with but a couple had room for improvement. Despite the shortcomings, it was one of those palettes that doesn’t seem to perform well looking at swatches alone but ended up being relatively easy to work with overall (the two deeper shades being more buildable made them more foolproof).

Chi
Chi is a light-medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was hard to build up, even over a primer, as it was moderately powdery and prone to sheering out. I noticed some fading after seven hours of wear.

Baby
Baby is a light-medium brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had an incredibly silky consistency that was very finely-milled but was somewhat powdery in the pan. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable on my skin, as it blended out well but didn’t lose its intensity (unless that was intended–like really blowing out the edges). This shade stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade noticeably.

Samurai
Samurai is a medium-dark, rosy copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was slightly chunky to the touch, and it seemed to have a firmer press, which made it harder to pick up product with a brush without really pushing at the surface. There was some fallout when I applied it to my lid, though it blended out easily after pressing it onto my lid. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Cherry
Cherry is a medium red with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque color payoff that adhered fairly evenly to bare skin, but the texture felt slightly drier and was more prone to fallout during application. It lasted well for eight hours on my lid before it showed signs of wear.

Blossom
Blossom is a medium-dark bronze with warm, reddish undertones and a pearly sheen. It had rich color coverage with a smooth, denser consistency that felt a little too firm in the pan, as I did have to use a heavier hand to pic up product evenly on a brush. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before it started to fade on me.

Japan
Japan is a pale peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, and it actually managed to hold much of that intensity on bare skin, though there was slight fallout. The consistency felt smooth, silky, and was a touch powdery in the pan. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Tree
Tree is a soft, light mauve with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich pigmentation that adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The consistency was soft, velvety, and a smidgen dusty in the pan but wasn’t dry or powdery applied. It lasted just over eight hours on my lid before fading a bit.

Season
Season is a deep plum with soft, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was more functionally a matte finish on my lid, but there were fine shimmers strewn throughout it. The texture was very finely-milled and silky to the touch but was on the more powdery side. It had medium, buildable pigmentation that blended out nicely along the edges. It wore well for eight hours before it showed signs of fading.

Hanami
Hanami is a deep red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with two to three layers. The consistency felt grainy and on the drier side, which can be something that happens with more matte, reddish hues like this, though it didn’t have a meaningful impact in the application as the eyeshadow blended out well along the edges. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before starting to fade.

I honestly love this one more than any of KKW’s previous palettes. Mostly because this color theme appeals to my personal tastes a bit more, and the quality isn’t terrible or anything. However, it caught me on a low-buy year. Plus, I can dupe it fairly well, I think. Now, if it is still available in 2020, we’ll see!
Yawn. Nothing new here. I can think of at least three palettes I own that have similar shades.
And even if I needed this range of colors, I would never give my money to this family.
I feel much the same, Seraphine. These colours aren’t ones I wear or even like but even if they were, I’d have issues enriching the coffers of that family.
Agreed. Isn’t this brand just marked up/ private label colourpop. I think Kylie admitted they were essentially the same products?
It is common for brands to use the same labs/factories/manufacturers but have different formulations – e.g. a lot of eye pencils are made in Germany – and it isn’t inherently “the same” just because brands share resources. It doesn’t mean they’re private label, especially since Seed Beauty is the parent of ColourPop (and also lists Kylie, KKW Beauty, and Fourth Ray as “[their] brands”). I’ve had brand owners mention seeing designer brands and mass (drugstore) brands products all made in the same factory!
A lot of the releases they’ve had in the past look like how parents like L’Oreal work, where they’ll launch a product with Giorgio Armani (Eyes to Kill Intense) and then a similar version launches at their more affordable brand like L’Oreal (Infallible Eyeshadows) but may not be 100% the same. Sometimes there may be differences, sometimes there may be none (or few), and sometimes the differences may be ones we’ll never be able to determine (could be a higher grade of X or ingredient A sourced by country B). One of the closest ingredient lists I can recall reading was betweeen MAC’s 24HR eye primer and Smashbox’s 24HR eye primer (both brands owned by Estee Lauder). But I’ve actually had a few readers say one worked while the other was a big fail!
If the ingredient lists are the same, then it’s definitely more likely they’re very similar; if they have a similar ingredient list for the first few listed, likely they’re going to have a similar look and feel… but if the first dozen or so ingredients are differently ordered, it could be a huge impact or minimal impact (you’d have to understand more about impact of individual ingredients, I think, or try it). This being true across brands/products, even ones that aren’t owned by the same parent (think about all the gel-powder hybrid highlighters abound now with Estee Lauder being one of the first to market, to my knowledge, but they exist at MUFE, Dior, Laura Geller, and so on – none of which are owned by ELC).
Wow, that’s so informative. Thank you Christine, for all your hard work.
These colors seem so repetitive. Very underwhelming. Timing can sometimes mean everything and if this palette was released before Naked Cherry or Charlotte Tilbury, perhaps it would seem more standout.
The list of dupes that you’ve provided are always so helpful! I personally do not want to support *any* of the Kar-Jenner business endeavours, so it’s honestly really great to have a resource that would let me put my money where my heart and mouth are. For example, I love the look of “West,” but I’m excited that Sydney Grace Co. has a very similar shade that would let me support an independent, small business and look great at the same time. Thank you always Christine!
The colours in this palette look amazing for autumn!!
Pretty, but’s it’s been done.
I love so much that rosier warm tones are in right now; they’re my kinds of tones! Blossom is a really pretty color! Other than that these shades are easily duped.
Man, this is beautiful! Is this permanent?
I think so! It’s been on the website/restocked for the last few months!
I like the colors but really just can’t support the evil kardashian empire.
Hey Christine, will you review or swatch the blushes in the collection?
Sorry, this is all I have right now!
Looks like another naked Cherry/stars in your eyes etc etc etc palette. Been there, done that
