Kat Von D Ophelia & Sanctuary Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Ophelia
Kat Von D Ophelia Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is a muted, light-medium, peachy-coral with a matte finish and warm undertones. It had good color payoff, but it wasn’t quite opaque–I would definitely do a second coat. The consistency was thinner than the average shade in the ELL range, but it went on fairly evenly, though there were a couple of visible streaks that never quite leveled as it dried down. It lasted for six hours and faded evenly over time, and the formula was slightly drying over time.

It is supposed to be a “long-wear, full coverage liquid lipstick with a smooth, matte finish.” Of the liquid lipsticks on the market that go and have a full dry-down, Kat Von D’s formula remains my favorite, as it is the easiest to apply with the kindest learning curve and lasts awhile.
Some shades are more drying than others, but typically they don’t get drying until after five to six hours of wear. They often wear anywhere from six to ten hours, depending on what you’ve had to eat or drink during the day. This formula is thin but not watery, has a longer dry down than most liquid lipsticks (but I noticed some of the newer shades dried to a mostly dry finish faster), and layers better than most (you can touch-up or add a second layer for more coverage).
It takes about a minute for it to mostly set, but it will remain a little tacky in places for up to three minutes so you’ll want to avoid pressing your lips together if it doesn’t seem totally dry initially. There isn’t a noticeable scent or taste. If you don’t mind the trade-off between very long, near-pristine wear and being drying, it’s worth checking out. As a bonus, these also come with one of the most generous amounts of products within the realm of liquid lipsticks!

Sanctuary
Kat Von D Sanctuary Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones. It had good pigmentation that applied evenly and easily across the lips. The color stayed on nicely for seven hours, faded evenly, and the formula was somewhat drying after six hours of wear.

I like Sanctuary but I’m not sure if the formula of these are like the originals or more like Project Chimps… I prefer the original formula as it was longer lasting imo!
Do you feel like there’s a difference in texture or just in performance?
Both. Project Chimps is definitely more moisturizing and doesn’t go on as thin as the earlier shades. Not that I don’t enjoy lip moisture, I just value length of wear over moisture when it comes to these. Also I always use lip balm so moisture isn’t a big deal to me with her line of liquid lipsticks.
I like the color of Sanctuary! Goes well with your eye look
Thank you, Katherine!
How come you took points away from Sanctuary for application despite applying evenly and easily?
Sorry, Alana – I’m just a moron – it didn’t hold what I typed in.
I bought Sanctuary. It is a gorgeous color, but it goes so dark on me!
Hopefully you like the way it looks on you!
I WISH Sanctuary looked and wore this way on me! It’s like we received completely different products. It’s gorgeous on you, and apparently your apply/wear experience was good. For me, it’s super dark and grey…extremely thin and patchy, drying, doesn’t last…yuck! Mine’s on its way back, which I do not like to do.
I am loving these names! Both have their names from classic novels that I read and loved when I was much younger, so that just had an added bonus. Ok, so even though I know these are drying, Sanctuary (Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback Of Notre Dame) is calling to my heart. ❤❤❤
Sanctuary is BEAUTIFUL. oh my GOSH!!! ?
I like the color of Sanctuary, but the super-matte finish is not for me.
Sanctuary looks so nice on you! It shows up as a dark brown colour on my lips…
I have this same problem, I was expecting something totally different.
Isn’t Sanctuary the one she calls cool sepia? It’s mauve/greige! Too bad it’s drying!
Kat Von D Ophelia looks a lot more processing than I initially though but I’m still keen on seeing how Muneca preforms.
Thank you for reviewing these 🙂 I’ve been interested in Sanctuary, and I think I may pick it up next time I’m at Sephora.
Sanctuary is a cool shade.
Sanctuary is interesting. I doubt I’ll get it, my lips are so dry so I need lip products that are at least slightly moisturizing. If it was’t for that issue, I’d run to get Sanctuary.
I’m so envious of everyone who can wear Sanctuary and Hawkwind. I ordered both and had to return both: they turned flat, dark brown on me and I’m so disappointed. Maybe my natural lip shade is too red/dark for these beautiful shades. 🙁
