Jouer Springtime in Paris Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Springtime in Paris
Jouer Springtime in Paris Eyeshadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.59 oz.) contains 12 eyeshadows with several neutrals along with a few pops of color. Jouer’s eyeshadow formula is described as “highly pigmented,” “crease resistant,” and “long-wear[ing].” Some of the eyeshadows were richly pigmented, blendable, and lasted for around eight hours, while some shades had more of a medium color payoff or were powdery to work with and lasted six to seven hours. I noticed that the “mattes” in the palette often had a faint sheen, though one was noticeably shimmery on. For me, the quality was inconsistent across the palette, so any looks created ultimately faded unevenly or had issues where one shade applied beautifully but the next was uneven.

Crème
Crème is a light beige with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It was described as matte, but there was distinctive shimmer in it, even when applied to the lid. The consistency was soft, on the powdery side, but when pressed onto the lid, it was quite pigmented and did not appear dry–it seemed to “melt” a little. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Petal is a soft pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was soft and blendable, though a little dusty to work with. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Mauve
Mauve is a medium-dark mauve with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The consistency was somewhat dusty in the pan, which resulted in excess product getting kicked up in the pan but made the eyeshadow more prone to sheering out on the lid as well. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage with two layers. This shade wore nicely for seven and a half hours on me.

Aubergine
Aubergine is a medium, mauvy purple with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There was very faint shimmer in the eyeshadow, but it wasn’t noticeable on the lid, so it functioned as a matte texture in practice. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied decently to bare skin but would be easier to work with over a primer. The eyeshadow lasted for seven and a half hours before fading.

True Gold
True Gold is a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff paired with a dusty, drier texture that seemed more loosely pressed in the pan, which made it messier to work with on the lid. The color sheered out very quickly, so it was hard to build up coverage. On me, it stayed on for seven hours.

Cinnamon is a medium-dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a bronzy sheen. Ash Brown is a blackened brown with neutral undertones and a semi-matte finish. There was a faint amount of shimmer strewn through the eyeshadow, but it wasn’t visible on the lid in practice. I think this is a great selection of colors and finishes, too bad it swatches so hit or miss!
The price is missing btw
Fixed!
I feel the same way. If this had been better quality, I would have been all over it. Christine, can you think of any palettes that have a similar sort of color scheme (plum/berryish with or without neutrals)
The Tarte Tarteist Pro comes to mind as something a little cooler and more plum/berry. http://www.temptalia.com/tarte-tarteist-pro-palette-review-photos-swatches/
I purchased the Springtime in Paris palette since I had really liked the Essential palette of neutrals that Jouer released last year. I agree that some of the shadows in the Paris palette are really nice while some are just OK, but overall I think the Essentials palette performed better. Still, glad I have it because the colors that performed well are the ones I tend to use lately.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it even though it’s not perfect, Christina — that’s really what matters! 🙂 I agree that the Essential was better overall, though I’m not 100% sold on their formula.
I skipped this one and went for Skinny Dip instead, looks like I made the right choice!
Skinny Dip is more unique and definitely better quality.
Hmm, compared to their Skinny Dip palette, I’m not being blown away by this one. The shades that I’m drawn to, I either have dupes of or shades that can easily sub them. For instance; Amethyst = MAC Selena or BH Foil Eyes #24 are probably close enough.
Skinny Dip was so much better!
Hi Christine! Long time lurker, first time poster 🙂 love your site! Anyway I’m kind of glad to see your review, I feel like I’ve not seen a ton of them and I bought this a couple months ago and hate it! So much fallout and the colors either don’t blend well or get muddied (I’ve tried a few looks; after the first disaster on a work day I played with more looks before I’d do my night time cleanse)…you may have even rated it slightly higher than I would, hah.
Oh no! 🙁 I’m sad to hear that you had a bad experience with it. Were you able to return?
I am sooo not sold on Jouer’s formula!
I’m the worst! Years in the industry so I shouldn’t feel bad about returning but it is rare I do 🙁 i probably give it to my 15 year old; she is just getting into makeup and won’t know it’s not great, you know? I LOVE their highlighters, and their liquid lipsticks are great if your lips are super moisturized…but….
Damn, too bad this isn’t as nice as I thought it was. I was really into the color story but with a few misses, I should pass.
I wish it was better, Erin!
Love the colors! Really liking this set!
Happy to hear it!
I really like the eye look that you did! Can you detail how you used the shades, please? I’m not experienced enough to tell by looking. If you used primer, did it impact the color at all?
There is a link right under the photos of it used that says “Look Details” that takes you to the look.
If you are using a colorless primer, it should not impact the color other than to make it appear true-to-pan due to helping the color stick better (e.g. increase pigmentation)!
I’m really glad I didn’t buy it. All the colors that caught my eye didn’t score well.
Phew! 😀
Exactly. But that’s the major reason we’re here, right? I do like the Jouer bb, given my personal constraints, but most of the things I want to try are always sold out. This was a nice color story with subpar execution. Too bad. Rather romantic, as intended.
The collection is romantic and I picked up the Rose gold lip creme. I love their metallics but they just look terrible on me so I’m giving it to my daughter. I do love that they smell like cake batter.
This is a big miss for me – so many pink/caramel shades and the one blue is awful.
I think the Skinny Dip is a much more original option than this palette.
Skinny Dip was definitely better!
This had several good reviews so I had high hopes of picking it up one day on sale. I’ll skip but enjoying ,my Jouer Skinny Dip palette and Tans Lines highlighter a lot .
I think if you like the formula in Skinny Dip, this one will leave you less impressed!
Thank you Christine for the review. I was interested in the palette, but decided to wait for you review. I am glad I did! The look your created was nice, though.
My pleasure, Caroline!
This kind of reminds me a bit of the BH Cosmetics Marble Collection Marble Collection 12 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Cool Stone, though that one has more grays and less browns (which are in the Warm Stone version). Still similar, though.
That’s a shame the palette didn’t perform that well here, I think the one I have performs better, I have to say I’m really pleased with it and I love the looks I can create with it. I’m glad my favourite shade, Rouge, got an A- at least. Even the blue in mine performs better, although naturally it’s the weakest, being a blue pigment. It’s interesting to read your take on it, thank you Christine.
