Guerlain Smile Rose Aux Joues Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Smile Rose Aux Joues Blush Duo
Guerlain Smile Rose Aux Joues Blush Duo ($62.00 for 0.21 oz.) includes a single pan split in half with a darker and lighter shade with both shades running on the warm side with soft shimmer. Despite sharing a physican pan, the darker shade seemed to have a significantly better, smoother texture, while the lighter shade was drier and harder to work with.
Smile (Left) is a bright, medium-dark orange-coral with warm undertones and subtle gold shimmer. The texture was soft, smooth, blendable, and easy to apply, while the color payoff was semi-opaque and buildable. On me, the blush lasted for eight hours before fading. Becca Snapdragon (DC, $34.00) is more shimmery, more muted, cooler (90% similar). MAC Fleeting Romance (P, $23.50) is lighter (90% similar). Shiseido Alpen Glow (06) (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Supercontinental (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Ex (LE, $5.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Drive Me Crazy (P, $10.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). ColourPop Tongue Tied (LE, $8.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #410 HD Blush (DC, $26.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Under Pressure (P, $8.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Coral (P, $25.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Hourglass Incandescent Electra (P, $38.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Modern Mandarin (P, $24.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Lovesick (LE, $30.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). Becca Lantana (P, $32.00) is darker (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Smile (Right) is a light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a luminous sheen. It was much more powdery and drier in the pan, which made it harder to apply to the skin. I felt like I had to really pack it on to get noticeable color, and it required some extra patience to get even application of the color. I noticed fading after six and a half hours of wear. Kevyn Aucoin Pink Sand #1 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Rosy Outlook (P, $23.50) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Wayne Goss Blushing (PiP, ) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Benefit Dandelion (PiP, $29.00) is warmer (90% similar). Edward Bess Filled with Desire (P, $43.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Hourglass Surreal Effect (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). NARS Give In Take Blush III (LE, ) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Guerlain Morning Rose (P, $52.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Sugar or Syrup (LE, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). MAC Lesson in Love (LE, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Swindle (LE, $30.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC At Dusk (LE, $31.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Lotus Blossom (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Hourglass Incandescent Electra (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). This collection seems so odd! Smile written on the blush? Enjoy written on the random single eyeshadow? At least the Meteorites compact looks like it could be great!
I think they’re going for positive affirmations based on what I’ve seen, but it’s not 100% clear. Here’s all the info I have on the launch: http://www.temptalia.com/guerlain-spring-2016-collection
The right shade is so pretty, what a shame the left is bad. At that price, it’s unacceptable.
Their eyeshadow/blush performance is why it’s hard for me to make them my “if you could only use one brand, which would it be” answer!
I think I will add the Hourglass dupe (of the right color) to my wish-list. I love the look of a light-pink against tan skin but it has to be done well.
Good call 🙂
The pressed “Enjoy” in the new shadow and “Smile” in this blush duo are incongruous with the luxury of Guerlain packaging (and its high price). This looks like kids’ stuff playing dress-up. Guerlain seems to have lost its way. It’s quickly losing its appeal to me.
It might have been better embossed on the packaging or perhaps on the mirror? I’m not sure.
Yeah, I agree about the embossed words, would’ve been better if they did embossed flowers like Dior, more elegant and luxe
I don’t like the word in it to start. But. I would have liked this if both sides were winners. Oh well, $ saved!
No time for $$$ blushes that don’t perform well!
I noticed perfume is near the top 1/3 of the list, which makes my wallet safe from almost all Guerlain products (whew). The darker shade is so pretty, they should’ve just skipped that lighter shade, looks so patchy and sheer. For $ 62, this needs an A+. Hope the other products from this spring collection get better scores
I wish it was better! 🙁
I hate this. I’m usually not quite to vehement in my judgement because I firmly believe to each her own, but this is so out of the realm of Guerlain. I should be happy they are trying something different, but these two products do jack for me and their performance is even more disappointing. Bah!
p.s. Christine, you eyebrows looks amazeballs in these photos
Thank you, Wendy 🙂
Am I the only one who thinks the embossed “pixelated” words on the powder products of Guerlain spring collection don’t look that good? I don’t know, for me they don’t match the brand’s elegant image at all. I wish they would have used a fancy script font if they really wanted positive words imprinted on those powders.
You’re not the only one – so far no has mentioned loving the concept! I’m neutral on it on myself.
I have a number of the comparison products, so this will be a pass for me. Too bad, it looks beautiful!
It is good in theory!
While the left side is quite a nice blush, it’s not enough to save this blush duo. For the lighter shade, I already have CP Cruel Intentions, which is pretty light on me. Also spotted on the list of possible dupes for that right side a MAC blush I hadn’t seen or noticed before; Love Cloud. Wow, thats a pretty one!
Love Cloud is a good one 🙂
I like the color, but even aside from the performance (a major turn off at this price point), there’s something that feels very juvenile about the world “SMILE” being imprinted on the blush. It’d be fun if you a tween/teen, but only teens in the 1% could afford it!
Disappointing 🙁
It seems like you’re not alone, Carrie! So far, I don’t think anyone has mentioned loving the idea of the words on the product.
This packaging reminds me of Physicians Formula!! The Sexy Booster line, specifically. Ha ha.
Not a total surprise; I think PF has been “inspired” by a LOT of Guerlain products over the years.
Strange that the right blush has the other blush in the collection as a dupe, you’d think that they’d make an effort to make it significantly different. I do love the look of this pair of blushes on the skin, but there are plenty of cheaper dupes so I’ll be passing.
I think they are supposed to be somewhat harmonious so you can mix them or get a lighter/darker version of each, but I hear you!
More of that coral please!!! 🙂
Maybe they should have just done the left side!
I have to agree with comments here that the “smile” in this compact is a little odd, but it actually did make me smile when I looked at it! It reminded me of PC video games in the 80’s, which made me nostalgic and then of course made me smile. That said, at first glance I would have never thought it was a Guerlain product though! If both sides of the product performed beautifully then I think it is (would be) a fun concept, but it is just sad that it isn’t an A all around. At that price I’ll skip it – but hey, at least I got a smile (and a chuckle) out if it which makes for a great Monday! 😉
Mission accomplished, Guerlain 😉
