Fenty Beauty Frost Money Metallic Eye + Lip Crayon Set Review & Swatches
Frost Money
Fenty Beauty Frost Money Metallic Eye + Lip Crayon Set ($39.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a limited edition trio of silver, blue, and deep purple crayons that are designed to be used on eyes and lips, though they disappointed no matter where they were used. They were least awful on my lash line, but they were painful and tragic on my lids and lips. Be sure to click “formula overview” on any of the below reviews or visit my Frost Bunny review for more a in-depth look at just how poorly this formula worked.

LELimited Edition. $39.00.
Slush Fund
Slush Fund is a medium silver with cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had sheer coverage in one layer, and it required three to four layers to get more opaque coverage from it… which was only achievable on my arm but not on my lower lash line, lid, or lips. The texture felt smooth when I initially swatched it on my arm, but it was actually drier and so thin that it tugged on my lid and lips noticeably. It seemed kindest to my lower lash line, where it did not seem to have as much drag.
As an eyeliner, it lasted for eight hours but looked uneven and patchy. As an eyeshadow, it also stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably, but it was sheer, uneven, and the edges were impossible to diffuse/soften. As a lip product, the color went on unevenly, separated along my lip lines, and lifted away product each time I pressed my lips together, though didn’t lift away stayed on for five hours (just looked terrible from start to finish).

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have "insane glide" that is "creamy upon application" but sets. The brand says that they can be used as eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick, or lip liner. I found the performance to be underwhelming both on the eyes and lips, though on lips it was particularly disappointing. Fenty has been fairly consistent, and where they've missed, it's usually not a total failure, but I had no luck with this formula at all.
The pencils feature a very waxy, thinner consistency that does tug somewhat (eyes and lips) and often requires multiple passes over curved areas--they'd swatch well enough on my arm but in practice, I had trouble getting even, opaque coverage whether I tried the formula as an eyeliner, eyeshadow, or lipstick. They were easiest to use on my lower lash line, as they only tugged a bit, but the coverage seemed to lift slightly as I tried to layer and even out the color or else it would pull away along any fine lines. However, if I tried to diffuse or blend out the line, product flaked off or lifted away randomly. While swatches were difficult to remove on my arm/hand, most shades disappeared within six hours on my waterline and were noticeably faded after eight hours on my lower lash line.
As an eyeshadow, they applied poorly with fingertips and a brush as the formula dries so quickly that most of the product remained on my fingertip or wouldn't adhere to my skin (from the brush), so applying directly from the pencil was best, which resulted in decent coverage but was often patchy or uneven. If I attempted to go back over areas with the pencil, I couldn't glide the pencil; I had pat and push it onto just the area or else it would lift away other areas. When I tried to diffuse the edges, whether I just used a fluffy brush or fingertips along the bare edge or if I tried to use a powder eyeshadow (say, in the crease) to blend the shimmer shades and a matte crease shade together, the cream eyeshadow lifted away and left behind bald patches. I reached the point where it was a game of applying and accepting that they'd never look great on my actual lids. They did have decent wear on my lids with about eight to nine hours without creasing but the color started to flake off.
As a lip product, the formula actually managed to get worse! They take some maneuvering to apply evenly, as the texture was thin and drier, and the pencil tugged a bit in order to get even coverage on my lips. The big issue was that I could not press my lips together, not even once, whether intentionally, accidentally, or while talking, or else the color would lift away noticeably. I tried leaving the color alone for a solid five minutes in case there was some "dry down" that I needed to wait for (nothing about the texture suggested that), but it didn't help. The strange part was that it stayed on well with respect to drinking/light meals but if the product came in contact with itself, it gave up. I tried not to press my lips together, but inevitably, just talking proved enough to cause patchiness within an hour of wear that worsened over time. (Please reference Sunfrost, where I took a photo after gently pressing my lips together, not even rubbing, just a gentle press, and see how much lifting occurred--it continued to lift as long as I had it on.)

Igloo Bloo
Igloo Bloo is a medium blue with cool undertones and silver sparkle. It had medium coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with three to four layers. The product built up better than other shades, as it didn’t become quite as patchy from layering, though it wasn’t perfect. The texture seemed smooth initially, but there just wasn’t much creaminess or slip, so it ended up drying down so quickly that it’s difficult to diffuse/blend or play with it to ensure a good application.
It applied and wore best as an eyeliner, as it didn’t tug or pull on my lower lash line, stayed in place for eight and a half hours, and looked fairly opaque/even. As an eyeshadow, it was difficult to apply evenly, as it was sheerer, patchy as it maneuvered along the curve my eyeball, and did not layer as well (without becoming patchier); it lasted for seven hours before flaking off in chunks. As a lip product, it applied unevenly, sank into lip lines, and tugged and pulled; to make matters worse, if I pressed my lips together (just gently!), the color lifted away and revealed bald patches, though the remaining color lingered for five hours and the formula made my lips feel painfully dry over time.

Smokin' Purp
Smokin’ Purp is a blackened purple with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had sheer coverage, though I noticed after several passes of color, a single pass became more medium to semi-opaque in coverage, so I guess there was some exterior layer that needed to be worked through that prevented coverage from coming through. The pencil didn’t tug on my arm when I initially swatched it, but it absolutely dragged painfully on my lid and lips and to a lesser degree, my lash line.
As an eyeliner, it wore well for eight hours but looked uneven and patchy, and I had no ability to smudge or soften the line at all. As an eyeshadow, the color started to flake off around the eight-hour mark, and it applied dismally: uneven, patchy, and painfully. As a lip color, it applied more evenly, though it did not adhere well to my inner area of my lips and lifted away if I gently pressed my lips together, which created a patchy mess after one press.

Goodness, what has happened to Fenty lately?
What a shame that these are so impossible to get a decent eye look out of them, at minimum! I really haven’t been hearing anyone rave about this holiday season Fenty collection, not surprising given how we’ve seen what a dismal failure the bulk of the products have turned out to be. So disappointing!
Switch your pictures for the silver and purple.
I don’t own any of her products, but it seems like she’s trying to grow too fast.
reminds me of kylie cosmetics, too much releases and all underperforming. i havent heard anything positive of the holiday collection.
Pardon me if you’ve already fixed it, but it looks like the purple and the silver names (or descriptions) are switched. Unless they are so poor that they end up a completely different color applied ?
I swatched these, and found them equally as terrible, esp the purple. Too bad, It coulda been a contendah! I don’t blame Ri for mfg issues. I blame Kendo. But she should not have put her final approval on these. Would YOU want your imprimatur on this mess? The promo pix were different, gorgeous, exciting, but yeeesh, the performance of her entire holiday collection is going to put some tarnish on Ri’s crown. This generates mistrust of the brand and Sephora.
Lovely shades and would have been great as an eye pencil/liner. I think the whole line has been disappointing.
The holiday collection has been pretty disappointing. I really liked these colors, but this is worse than the warmer set.
I’m disappointed bc i was kinda interested in this 🙁 easy skip for me then lol.
Christine, how often do you review a set that comes in as Fs across the board? It seems like a manufacturing issue. I saw somewhere you have to “warm” the product on the back of your hand.. at any rate, it’s sad to see her like take a hit and will make me far more skeptical about buying Fenty in the future.
The formula has just… almost no creaminess to begin with, so warming may make it feel like it is tugging less a bit but doesn’t solve the overall formula and texture. I’m skeptical there, as these applied poorly on lips and lips are fairly warm, and it’s a larger surface (easier to navigate over than the lid, IMO), and it wasn’t like, “ooh, so creamy!”
I think these would be better as an eyeliner – smaller pencil and solely as eyeliner, and they might be able to amp up pigmentation a bit, so then they’d work better in a smaller, thinner line vs. all-over the lid or lips!
When they are Fs across the board, barring a stupid marketing claim (24 hours or something), it is usually a formula issue. I wouldn’t call this a manufacturing issue, which would be more in the vein of a mistake being made in the production (like they missed an ingredient) or poor packaging etc. The formula itself is a problem!
Still only own one single Fenty product: a foundation to tweak my base. This is saddening. Newer products haven’t been up to snuff. Saddens me.
