Estee Lauder Pretty Vain, Power Trip, Excite Pure Color Envy Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Pretty Vain
Estee Lauder Pretty Vain Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had a bit more of a sheen and glow about it than other shades in the range, which tend to look glossier. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly on my lips, but the actual consistency wasn’t as smoothing nor as flattering on my lips as past shades in the same formula have been for me. The texture felt lightly creamy, smooth, and was easy to apply as it didn’t drag or tug. It wore nicely for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

The Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick formula is supposed to have “high-intensity color” in a "single stroke" that "glides on effortlessly" and has "six hour" wear. More recent copy of the formula has been more specific as it having "medium-to-full coverage."
Most shades in the range are lightweight, creamy with moderate slip with semi-opaque to opaque coverage that wears four to seven hours. The formula tends to sit well on lips and either gives the illusion of plumpness or smooths out lip lines slightly. It's also hydrating while worn.
They are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Power Trip
Estee Lauder Power Trip Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark ruby red with strong, cool undertones–which made it appear almost pinkish-red–paired with a luminous sheen. The color coverage was nearly opaque, while the color applied evenly and fluidly across my lips.
The consistency felt lightly emollient without being too slippery, which ensured the product applied comfortably but didn’t slide around during wear. It also smoothed out most of my lip texture and lip lines, so it was more flattering on. This shade lasted well for six hours, left a stain behind, and felt hydrating (and it didn’t feather on me, though that’s not something I’m prone to have happen!).

Excite
Estee Lauder Excite Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium poppy red with warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evenly across my lips without tugging or dragging during application. There was a smidgen of product that settled into my deeper lip lines in the close-up photo but wasn’t noticeable in person.
The texture was lightly creamy, not too thick or too thin, and comfortable to apply and to wear as it had light slip but not to the point where it felt slippery during wear. It stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Power Trip is lovely. I don’t know if it’s so much that the lippie itself is so gorgeous (though it is) or if it’s just me feeling the “need” to go out and buy “something” – and what’s better than a new lipstick to lift the spirits. (back in the 50’s, as insulting as it may seem, when women were blue or down – and they had a lot to be blue or down about – they were often advised to “go out and buy a new hat; nowadays, maybe we should be buying hats since hair salons are all still closed, at least here in Ontario, but generally, buying a new lipstick is the “new hat” for me)
I’m sure you’re not alone right now!
I saw UD’s founder mention that because of the pandemic, we might not see the lipstick effect but an increase in brow and eye products (because of masks).
I’m gonna have to get my eyeliner game on point, for sure.
Makes sense, although masks don’t stop me from wearing lipstick – I NEED my lippie. My disposable masks all have lipstick marks on them when I take them off and the fabric ones I made are easily washed (these have pockets in them for filtering fabric since I don’t know how “filtering” the outer fabric is) and most are in dark colours (some in that black and red “buffalo” check) so they don’t show lipstick stains! I “planned ahead”!
Omg, haircut! Though I have 5-8 hair stylist customers, no one told me they were reopening. A customer came in newly done and I shrieked so loud you could hear me in Canada. YOU GOT A HAIRCUT! OMG! I was able to schedule one, and it’s done. Price increase of about 7USD, and I have a simple bob. It cost me more than a night at night job. You knock to ‘sign in’. The stylist comes to get you in your car. There were only 3 customers in there, at least 10-15 feet apart. My mask fell off…big surprise…and I had to hold it over my face with gloved hands, like some weird speak and see no evil monkey. Very strange experience. But, it’s done, and the precautions were well done.
You were actually able to get a haircut? I’m so happy for you, KJH! That’s the one thing I’m dying to get done, and soon. It’s so stinkin’ hot here, and my hair is just bugging me. Seems like I just deal with it by wearing it in a high bun or ponytail. Yuck. If my features weren’t so harsh, I’d get a pixie bob!
I don’t have a great mane like yours, Nancy. It’s fine and straight, if I blow it dry. It may not be Arizona heat here, but humidity makes my hair weirdly disorganized wavy/curly, if it has the least length. Hair dryer in summer? Hell, no. I get the back shaved up to tolerate the summer. If I lived where you live, I’d have to go back to Joan of Arc. Just to make you miss the shore more…it was 94 at day job, 8-10 miles from home, and 12 degrees cooler at home near the beach. I’ll bet Covid kicked the bottom out of your yearning for the Jersey shore. I do hope you get to go back some day. Just not until it’s safe.
I always buy a new lipstick whenever I feel in the mood for a beauty treat, especially when they are on sale. Have you purchased any of the Colour Pop Lux lipstick range Mariella? Inexpensive and so hydrating on the lips.
Re hair salons, during our big lockdown hair salons were allowed to be open only if they could sanitise and have only one or two customers (socially distanced) a time. I was able to get my hair done at a local salon, as my go to hairdresser worked from home and she stopped.
They’re only “online” here, Genevieve (are they in store in Australia?) and I just don’t buy online stuff for a few reasons. But if I could get Colour Pop in-store (ditto Sydney Grace), I’d probably have about 80 or 100 more eyeshadows, and that’s the LAST thing I need.
My province is being very slow at re-opening things and, honestly, I think it’s a good thing. Other provinces are doing things differently and, of course, the US is too (though this whole “restarting the economy” has taken such a back seat to what is happening there now). I fear that where things are reopening quickly, we will start to see a spike in cases within a month to 6 weeks and I fear we will be right back to where we were in March. But, honestly, I can’t wait to get in to my hairdresser. Everyone here – from our Prime Minister to tv news reporters to people you see on the street on those rare occasions when you see people on the street – everyone is looking quite shaggy!
Ooh! Power Trip is a stunner! Even with my myriad of reds, I don’t believe I have anything quite like it. Strangely, as much as I love it, I think that I prefer LA Noir even more.
I love Excite – such a beautiful shade of bright red.
I do love a vibrant cream lipstick. These are gorgeous!
