Dose of Colors Smokey Soiree Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Smokey Soiree
Dose of Colors Smokey Soiree Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00 for 0.3 oz.) includes three matte shades and two shimmers (and shimmers are new to the brand’s five-pan format!). If you’ve experienced Dose of Colors’ previous palettes, I suspect this will live up to those expectations. The matte eyeshadows were denser, more velvety with great pigmentation and were blendable.
The shimmers were lightly creamy, dense but not too thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan, and while the brand recommended fingertips to apply them, they were totally workable with dry/dampened brushes.

Fired Up
Fired Up is a medium-dark burgundy with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was incredibly soft and velvety without being too powdery in the pan, though you’ll want to uses a more light to moderate hand with it as a little went a long way. It had excellent pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. There were signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

New in Town
New in Town is a bright, light golden beige with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, shiny finish. It had good color coverage, but it needed to be applied with a fingertip for fuller coverage (and this method also minimized fallout). The brand recommended that it be applied with a fingertip for “maximum application,” which I found to be true.
The texture was more densely-packed into the pan, slightly creamy to the touch, and felt similar to the brand’s Block Party eyeshadows but not quite as emollient. When applied with a dry brush, there was light fallout, and with a fingertip, there was just a few stray flecks. The product went on evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The majority of the product was intact after eight hours of wear but there was light fallout over time.

On the Rocks
On the Rocks is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, velvety consistency that wasn’t too powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan, so it picked up well with a brush and blended out with ease. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Out and About
Out and About is a deep taupe with warmer, reddish-brown undertones and cooler, grayer shimmer and sparkle that gave it a metallic finish. The brand recommended that it be applied with a fingertip for “maximum application,” which was apt as a fingertip yielded heavier coverage with the least fallout and smoothest lay down of product in one fell swoop.
That being said, I didn’t find a dry brush to be problematic beyond light fallout when I blended out the edge. It had opaque color coverage applied with a dry brush as well as with a fingertip. There was light fallout present after eight hours of wear.

Midnight
Midnight is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and barley-there micro-shimmer over a matte finish. The consistency was soft, lightly powdery to the touch and a bit thinner compared to other mattes in the palette (though not stiff or too firmly-pressed into the pan). It yielded rich pigmentation in a single pass, which adhered well to bare skin and blended out fairly well–could have been a bit more blendable–but it wasn’t prone to fallout, which is always nice to find with deeper, intense shades like this. The eyeshadow lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

So glad to see this review well! I love the color story so much and have been wanting to try Dose of Colors for a long time, so this will be my first purchase from them! The look you did with it was so stunning, Christine!
Thank you, Susannah!
This color story so reminds me of how I used to wear my eye makeup in the 90’s! Extremely smokey, dark and sexy. I still love rocking a smoldering eye look like I could get with this little quintet.
Thank goodness this palette rated so well, we could all do with some cheer. This is the quality that Wayne Goss’s palette should have been!. Although, my only criticism is why the inclusion of matte black? The most unpopular and unused shade (according to surveys). A taupe shade (in a satin) would have been a lovely inclusion.
At least here the quality is there when it comes to the black eyeshadow… I suppose the idea behind the color story was a very dark smokey look (that I aleo used to wear late 90’s)…
I actually love the inclusion of a black, but I’m a Deep Winter (referencing the 16 color seasons, which has helped me understand my colors so much!) as far as coloring goes (I have a couple of black singles that I keep on hand if I need to deepen an outer corner color). But I do wish the gold shimmer was a pink or even more whiteish shimmer. However, this is the first Dose of Colors palette I’m attracted to! Def considering.
I think this is an utterly beautiful smokey eye palette. It’s very tempting! I don’t usually do really dark smokey eyes on myself, but Out and About on the lid would keep the matte black from making me look like I have skull sockets instead of eyes. I can probably dupe it, though.
In some ways, there are overlaps in feel/impression, not quite dupes, with Nars Provocateur. The Dose may be even better.
That’s a good one to compare it to!
