Dior Rose Gold Backstage Glow Palette Review & Swatches
Rose Gold (004)
Dior Rose Gold (004) Backstage Glow Face Palette ($45.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, limited edition foursome that includes an array of lighter, sparkling highlighters. Of the recent face palettes released, this was one of the more diverse ones as they were distinct from each other. The quality was consistent with past shades/palettes released; semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a smooth, but dense and firmer, consistency that blended out and sat well on my skin. They lasted between eight and nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Gold Pearl
Gold Pearl is a very light, platinum gold–the kind that has an almost greenish-tint at certain angles–paired with a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. The texture was smooth, blendable, and dense but not firm to the point of being stiff to work with. This shade wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is described as buildable from "a natural healthy glow to an intense luminosity." The brand goes on to list a slew of finishes--metallic, intense, shimmery, and glittery--though on the actual product, a few shades listed as "intense" online were listed as "sheer" on the label.
A lot of the "buildable" characteristic is tied to the glow/finish, which is common with the gel-powder hybrid formula that the brand is using, but the brand isn't as clear with respect to actual pigmentation. The brand's online promotional images show fully opaque "swatches." Worse, the actual pigmentation varied from shade to shade quite a bit, though they tended to be more medium to opaque, often buildable if they weren't fully opaque.
The texture was more of a smooth, slightly firmer formula that wasn't stiff to work with, but they did work better with a more moderately-dense brush or something with a larger surface area (to pick up product more evenly) when patted into the pan.

Gold Pearl
LELimited Edition.
Pink Gold
Pink Gold is a light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and cooler pink and gold pearl and faint sparkle. The base seemed more translucent, so a lot of the coverage came through as shimmer/sheen–you can see how it has more opacity to the eye at an angle (when more light is reflecting off the product) than straight-on. I’d describe the coverage as semi-opaque and buildable overall.
The highlighter had a smooth, denser feel–firm not but stiff or difficult to blend out–and worked best with a moderately-dense brush, which is consistent with the gel-powder kind of formula. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Pink Gold
LELimited Edition.
Rose
Rose is a pale, iridescent pink with cooler undertones and a luminous sheen. The base seemed more translucent, so it had less of a white cast as some shades in this color family can have, though there was still some pigment in the base that came through.
It had more semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely. This shade had the most subtle sheen and glow relative to the rest of the shades in the palette. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Rose
LELimited Edition.
Golden Peach
Golden Peach is a light peach with moderate, warm undertones paired with a pink and gold, sparkling finish. It was shiny, twinkling, and luminous but wasn’t prone to migration.
The consistency was soft, smooth, and dense without being overly firm or stiff, but the gel-powder style formula will work best with a moderately-dense brush (or with more of a pushing motion than a sweeping one). The upside is that there is no powderiness, and the formula has a more “melted” and seamless look applied to skin. It had more semi-opaque color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. It wore well for nine hours before fading a bit.

OH my goodness. If I were to ever buy one of these quads, this one would be it. It is just stunning.
These are very! flattering on you! I suspect, therefore, they would also be very flattering on me.
Thank you, Lucia! Is it something you have your eye on?
Definitely on my wishlist. ^_^
Even though I have olive undertones and a warm end of neutral complexion, I am so blown away by the beauty of these 4 shades that I am totally getting this in December! I don’t think they’re too cool toned for my complexion, or so I hope.
Hope you love it, Nancy!
Gorgeous! I’d be tempted, but two of the shades are too dark for me.
I could see it being more of a highlighter/blush palette for your skin tone, Rachel!
The darker pink would work as a blush, but I don’t think I could use the darker gold at all. Pale girl problems. lol
Hi Rachel,
I work for Dior and when I apply these palettes to people’s faces (well in the past now since covid lol…now all we can do is swatch them) I would use the pink shades as blush or blush toppers and the deeper shades as eyeshadow to show how multi-purpose they can be.
Good tips! Thank you Bonnie for helping me talk myself into this one!
No problem Lydia!! Btw I love your name!
Thank you so much, Bonnie! The darker gold would make a stunning eyeshadow with its gold shift. Now that Christine’s reviewed all three versions, I do think this one would probably be the best for me.
You’re so welcome Rachel! The deeper shades can be very pigmented and shimmery if pressed onto the lid with a finger as well (as opposed to a wash of the color with a brush)
I sort of felt the same as you, Rachel, that they might be too dark for me but I am heartened by Christine’s response. I am not in the market for a palette of highlighters but I am sort of looking at the shade “Rose” as an all over finishing powder if I used it in conjunction with one of my matte finishing powders. It is the least “highlighterish” shade and I love the tone. I am thinking it is worth a try for when I would like a slight, very slight, sheen to my skin.
Rose would be beautiful on you used that way, I think. It would really suit your coloring. Great idea! Thanks to Christine and Bonnie, I’m starting to think this may work for me, after all.
