Celebrate in Gold (017)

Dior Celebrate in Gold (017) High Fidelity Colours & Effects Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition five-pan palette that features two golds, a soft golde-taupe, satiny brown, and rich black.

Two of the five shades had lower-level shimmer, so the color story offered more contrast and versatility than some of the other Dior quints have in the past. All five shades performed well; they were pigmented, easy to apply and blend out, and stayed on for eight to nine hours on me.

Celebrate in Gold #1

Celebrate in Gold #1 is a bright, medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It seemed slightly warmer than green-leaning golds but it read cooler than most true warm golds. The texture was smooth to the touch, dense without being too firmly pressed into the pan.

The eyeshadow had opaque coverage applied dry as well as with a dampened brush, though the latter method yielded more intense shine. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Celebrate in Gold #2

Celebrate in Gold #2 is a soft, champagne gold with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich color payoff that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. The consistency was dense, smooth, and yielded well to dry brushes but had no fallout. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading slightly.

Celebrate in Gold #3

Celebrate in Gold #3 is a brighter, golden taupe with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The pigmentation was good applied dry, though it was shy of full coverage, while dampened application had deeper color and a brighter shine that made it appear lighter than the dry application.

The texture was denser, but smooth, and I had no trouble picking up product with a dry brush. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me before showing signs of wear.

Celebrate in Gold #4

Celebrate in Gold #4 is a deeper brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, moderately dense texture that wasn’t too firmly pressed to the point that it became stiff to work with, so it still picked up well with a dry brush and blended out nicely. It wore well for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Celebrate in Gold #5

Celebrate in Gold #5 is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was intensely pigmented, though dampened application gave it a deeper color that seemed richer overall. The texture was smooth, dense, and a bit creamier compared to the other shades, but I didn’t have any issues applying and blending it out on my skin. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Ever so pretty and I’m glad it scored so well (Dior shadows, like those from Nars, are ones I have this daft sentimental attachment to, so I always experience a little thrill when they do well and a wee stab to the heart when they flop, like the Nars palette you reviewed yesterday). I may just break down and buy this beauty.

Egad! These two LE palettes are insanely beautiful. As I mentioned about the other, I’d pair them both together to make a zillion different looks. Wow! Just gorgeous. (I’m already eager to see the spring palettes!!! Go Dior!)

It might not be revolutionary, but it is lovely! Love it. This golden Dior whizzbang of a palette + a matte neutral palette* would pretty much be me set for travel, along with a couple of fun colored eyeliners.

*actual neutrals, not pinks — ya hear me, cosmetics companies? har.

These are so pretty to look at and I am happy to see Dior producing two really killer palettes this holiday season. I much prefer the brighter shades to these but these shades really suit my daughter and they are also subdued enough that she could wear them to work and not look like a disco ball. I think I am going to pick up both, one for her and one for me. I will keep the brighter, jewel toned palette and my daughter can have this more subdued palette. Seems funny to me as I am typing this that I, at 65, would be getting the bright coloured palette and my daughter at 25 would be getting a subdued palette. Just struck me as funny and I had a good laugh about it!!

I have been undecided on this palette. I need to check my current stash to see if any of what I have is similar – I have a few golds already. It’s a lovely understated, elegant, sophisticated look that should scream a high-end brand. It would never wear you. Combining the two palettes should be easy for many, many looks.

Wow, Dior!!! They’ve managed to make neutrals exciting, which is no easy task. And TWO palettes with an A score??? I can’t wait to see what they come up with for spring

I was thinking of getting either this one or the Chanel quad depending on how the reviews went… This one did great now let’s see how the Chanel one performs. The big minus with Chanel is that I wouldn’t be able to buy it at -20% on Sephora’s sale since they don’t carry it. 🙁

#3 is the one I was really keen on but, having had this (for a whole 24 hours!), I was a bit disappointed – it didn’t apply as well as the other shades and I may try using a damp brush, as Christine advises. The shade that surprised me the most (in a good way) is #4. I thought it would be really coppery/orange-y but it’s not. It’s just the most perfect brown when applied.

Rachel, #3 isn’t horrible – it just takes a bit more work to get a rich application (I have NARS Stud from 2016 and the colours are similar but Stud applies well with a bit less effort). In some ways, the 5-pan reminds me of Chanel’s Empreinte du Desert in that it’s sort of neutral and sort of “unremarkable” except that it’s really remarkable! I was almost going to pass on it (as I nearly did with EduD) but I’m so glad I didn’t.

I don’t think it will, either. It’s not showing either online or in store and it was almost sold out at the department store in the same mall as my local Sephora. I remember that a few years back, they didn’t get the Bonne Etoile palette either – I think a lot of Dior’s LE stuff might be tagged as “department store only” so if you want this, get it fast!
