ColourPop x NBA Miami Heat Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Miami Heat
ColourPop Miami Heat 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($14.00 for 0.32 oz.) is a new, limited edition warm-toned color story featuring four metallic eyeshadows and five (mostly) matte eyeshadows. All nine shades performed well enough with a few shades being a little powdery and/or more buildable in coverage (but by no means sheer) and wore for around eight hours on me.

305
305 is a light, yellowy gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was soft, more loosely-pressed in the pan, and this resulted in a little bit more frost than metallic once applied on my lid. It had opaque pigmentation that wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Big Three
Big Three is a very light and bright, yellowy orange with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage that adhered well to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery in the pan but not prone to sheering out during application. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Magic City
Magic City is a rich, medium-dark gold with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was more loosely-pressed but the pigmentation was very intense, so using a lighter hand would be ideal to avoid fallout with this shade. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Vice Wave
Vice Wave is a rich, medium-dark orange with moderate, warm undertones and barely-there gold pearl over a matte finish. The pearl was finer and there wasn’t a lot of it, so it didn’t result in fallout during application. It had full color payoff in one layer, which applied well to bare skin and blended out with ease as the texture was smooth, velvety, and not too powdery. The eyeshadow showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

South Beach
South Beach is a soft black with cooler undertones and multi-colored, barely-there pearl over a matte finish. The consistency was slightly thinner and more firmly-pressed into the pan, so there was no powderiness, but it wasn’t as blendable as it could have been. It had opaque color payoff that wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

It’s a better quality palette that what I thought it might be and there are a few lovely shades: Kaboom, 305 and Bayside. I don’t see how the matte black fits in here as this is quite a warm toned orange and red themed palette.
Agree with Genevieve, the color story is a little off kilter, the matte black throws it off.
I don’t understand the basketball theme in an eye shadow palette but I guess it’s for fans? And 2 of the colors swatch nearly identical…
Die-hard Miami Heat fan here! Red and black are the team’s colors, so it probably would have been weird to NOT include a black shade. The logo is the basketball with the flames coming out of it, which is where you get all the warm yellows and oranges (and obviously they evoke the “heat” idea), but all the uniforms are red and black. I personally think it works here because the black balances it out, and can be used as a liner (especially since the two Miami Heat liners in the collection are both a reddish-brown and a copper, IIRC). I like the hint of pearl in it too, and think you could smoke it out nicely.
I’ve been waiting for Christine’s review to make sure it wasn’t a huge dud before pulling the trigger, but I’m curious about the liners and the glitter too. Christine, do you plan on reviewing those too? Thanks!
As an aside, Colourpop did a good job on the shade names for the Miami Heat collection. They really paid tribute to the fanbase and much of the history. I have to say that I am more than disappointed in their lack of creativity for the other five teams, especially the LA and Boston collections. They did them dirty. 🙁
I may not be a basketball fan (weird, since I did actually play it as a kid and teen), but I love the fall looking colors of this one! And yet, I don’t see myself ordering it.
This NBA collection just screams cash grab to me. After 2+ yrs of launching a new collection every week, it seems like CP has finally run out of original ideas and is now just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. They rarely add anything to their permanent line, it’s just a nonstop barrage of limited edition products that are now coming every week; one collection is announced on a Mon, drops on a Thursday and the next day, a new collection is announced to drop the next Thursday. CP is the beauty industry’s fast fashion and they’re responsible for the oversaturation of the market; many brands have even admitted that they started pushing out more new releases after seeing CP do it.
Ok, I’m getting off my soapbox now. Thank you for attending my Ted Talk.
😂
Hey ladies…I’m a born and raised South Floridian AKA Miami. The black comes from the Miami Heat colors Red and Black. There are some lovely shades here but not enough for me to justify this buy!!
Zero interest in an NBA themed collection. Even if I liked the color stories, it’s not like they’re unique.
