Maleficent

ColourPop Maleficent Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium berry with cool undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a full, second layer. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and felt more slippery than most shades in the range, which gave it a thinner, slightly translucent look on my lips. It applied evenly and didn’t emphasize the natural texture of my lips. This shade lasted nicely for six hours, left a fuchsia stain behind, and was lightly moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

$8.00/0.12 oz. - $66.67 Per Ounce

The formula that is supposed to be a "creamy-matte" that "glides on like butter, doesn't feather or bleed, and lasts so long you'll forget you're even wearing it." The majority of the shades were quite pigmented with full color payoff in a single stroke with a few in the more semi-opaque coverage range.

The texture was, on average, smooth, lightly creamy, and not too thick or too thin, so there was no tugging during application but the color didn't feel slippery while worn, which made them easier to apply straight from the tube and low-maintenance on the lips.

They tend to dry and wear down to a soft matte finish within one to three hours of wear, and while they are very lightweight on, they hug the lips more as they become more matte (compared to initial feel). The wear time has been between four and six hours for most shades, and most shades were non-drying to lightly hydrating. They were vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste.

Hades

ColourPop Hades Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium peach with soft, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly but had some product that sank into my lip lines from the get-go. The settling worsened over time slightly–not to the point where it was showing off every lip line by any means, but it could have been more flattering on from start to finish. The texture was lightweight, creamy without being too emollient, and comfortable to apply and to wear. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

I wasn’t planning to pick any of the Lux lipsticks up, but Maleficent may have just changed my mind. I don’t wear colors like that often… but when I want a bright lip I tend to go for pinks vs reds (although I like both, I feel more confident with pinks) and the fact that it leaves a stain makes me so happy. I love staining as long as it stains evenly and not just the outer rim or lip lines. I’m going to have to make sure I don’t have anything too close to that shade right now, but I’m pretty positive my one maybe similar color is more pink than berry.

Okay, well that settles that; I’m getting the Maleficient bundle! I do have MAC Sí, Sí Me, but since I use that one a ton, buying such a close dupe doesn’t faze me.

As for Hades, so many missed opportunities with his bundle. How about an electric turquoise blue Jelly Much? A blue shifting darker peach or orange duochrome lipstick? A sheer lipgloss with lots of vivid turquoise shimmer? A blue shifting highlighter?

I do not understand the choices for these two. If you didn’t want to do a red for Maleficent (since it’s already being used in this collection), I think they should have went with purple, green, or black. I get that there is a bit of pink in her outfit, but not that much. Also, Hades obviously should have been blue or even orange. Nevertheless, both shades are very pretty, but they don’t just make sense to me.
