ColourPop Journey Super Shock Shadow Quad Review & Swatches
Journey
ColourPop Journey Super Shock Shadow Quad ($18.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of four, shimmery cream eyeshadows. Three were fantastic, while one fell short for me, though it was workable depending on how one wanted to use it. 20% of proceeds from the sale of products from the ColourPop x Delilah collection will be donated to Make-a-Wish, including this set (or the individual shades, if purchased separately).

Cherish
Cherish is a rich bronze with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of silver glitter. It had rich color coverage that adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin without fallout. If I blended too much, I did get a few flecks of fallout, though, so you may want to be mindful of blending if fallout is a concern. The texture was smooth, emollient, and lightly creamy, which helped it blend easily along the edges but kept it from sheering out too readily. It wore well for 10 hours without fading or creasing, and I didn’t notice any fallout over time.

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.
From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).
The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.
The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

DJ
DJ is a rich, rusty copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin with even, smooth coverage. The eyeshadow felt smooth, slightly wet to the touch, but it performed and acted a lot like a powder eyeshadow once applied to my lid. It stayed on nicely for 10 hours without fading or creasing on me.

Okay
Okay is a soft gold with warm undertones and a glittery finish. It had excellent color payoff that applied evenly with just a smidgen of fallout. The consistency was soft, lightly emollient to the touch, but it didn’t feel too wet or creamy on my skin, so it had good adherence without losing its intensity or coverage (unless I wanted it to be sheered out!). On me, it lasted nicely for 10 hours with just a touch of fallout over time.

Warrior
Warrior is a blackened navy blue base with lighter blue and teal sparkle. The eyeshadow had a more emollient quality to it, which gave it more slip and resulted in sheerer coverage, though it seemed to be buildable to mostly opaque coverage with a second layer. It could have blended out a bit more easily, as the base had a tendency to look a bit patchy due to the sheerer coverage. For me, this one worked best as an eyeliner or as a base shade (and then patting on a glittery shade on top). It wore well for 10 hours on me without fading or creasing.

This is a great set for performance and an excellent charity. DJ applied looks so pink, compared to the pan.
Because I just LOVE that CP decided to collab with a young woman who is battling cancer for 20% proceeds going to Make A Wish, I’m all for it. Besides, the shades are absolutely lovely and very usable!
Hey Christine, I’m sure you’ll have gotten several comments about this but I think you uploaded the wrong eye look pictures. Still looks amazing just wrong color scheme.
Anyway, too bad about that blue as it was the standout for me. I’ll probably still get the set though as I love the super shock formula usually and it’s benefitting a great cause.
Hi Kathleen,
It is the correct eye look. If you look under the caption, it says “ColourPop Ooh La La / Journey | Look Details.” If you click on “Look Details,” it gives a breakdown of what is used and wear.
Three of the four shades are here:
Inner lid: Cherish
Outer lid: DJ
Browbone: Okay
(I tested Warrior separately.)
I haven’t purchased much CP recently as I just haven’t found myself reaching for them. I do like the formula, overall, and am so glad that they have been able to mostly maintain their high standards and quality control at such a low price point. Regardless of need, I will probably pick this up as I am a breast cancer survivor and am always happy to support research and support for those battling this terrible disease.
Now this is a winning combination – gorgeous shades that would work well with any other colours, great ratings and a worthwhile charity. Love the shades.
Such a great collab, kuddos to CP. So fun to watch the video, too, and see where my stuff got made maybe.
