ColourPop By the Rose Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
By the Rose
ColourPop By the Rose 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($14.00 for 0.3 oz.) is a new, warmer pink and coral eyeshadow palette that included four true mattes, one sparkly matte, and four shimmers. The eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and longer-wearing, though I think that the inclusion of both Sunday Soiree and Effervescent was redundant and made the palette less versatile than it could have been.

Sparkling
Sparkling is a light pink with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had opaque color payoff paired with a smooth, moderately emollient consistency that had good adhesion to bare skin and wasn’t prone to fallout. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Picnic Basket
Picnic Basket is a pale pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was denser, velvety, and smooth, which gave it better grip and opacity, even when blended out. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

The eyeshadow had rich color payoff that adhered evenly to bare skin and diffused well along the edges. The texture was smooth, lightly emollient but not overly dense. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Effervescent
Effervescent is a deep, reddish-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff paired with a soft, smooth texture that wasn’t powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan, so it was blendable but not prone to sheering out. There were signs of fading present after eight hours of wear.

LELimited Edition. $4.50.
Ripe
Ripe is a plummy bronze with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was more loosely-pressed, so there was light fallout when I blended out this shade on my lid. It had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and lasted for eight hours.

Sweetness
Sweetness is a richer, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery, and it was prone to fallout due to the larger flecks of sparkle that did not bind with the underlying color. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Totally agree about the two mid tone mattes being too similar too each other. I think Over Ice and Cheers Babe are quite similar as well. Colourpop does this kind of pinky peachy gold shades very often. I don’t really mind as this is a great one and done shade for me, really makes the aqua blue in my eyes pop.
Oh look! More orange and red and pink shadows! What a surprise!
Not bad in the quality department, but I agree with you concerning redundancy. Two of the shimmers also look a bit too close in appearance: Over Ice and Cheers Babe. Might still get it mostly for Cheers Babe as it beautifully dupes PML VR Rose Venus, plus I really love several of the other shades.
When I look at the dupe list for the shimmer shades, so many of them are from the brand itself. I think CP has about 20 or so shades of pink in their collection that are done over and over again.
Ripe is the only shade that I think is interesting here.
I feel for the staffers who have to come up with new names all the time – not just for the “self-duping” shades (of which there are so many, as you point out) but for all their new shadows that just seem to be churned out daily! It must be a taxing job and difficult not to repeat themselves or steal names of well known shadows from other companies!
Does this have carmine in it, Christine? I think I’m allergic to my Natasha Denona Retro palette, unfortunately, and now I’m looking for an alternative.
yes, it’s in the ‘may contains’ for some shades!
I see ‘may contain’ As somewhat of a cop out. There either IS carmine or there is not and they know which is which. Most carmine averse would not be tempted to think, well maybe not and I’ll try it. The only way that ‘may contain’ could be true is if CP has inconsistent use of ingredients or if they substitute another ingredient with the same color index, depending on availability. This is pretty disingenuous. About the color story: not only done to death and close dupes in the same palette, but totally one note.
Also kinda Pat McGrathish, but more Natasha Denonish.
