Coloured Raine Vivid Pigments & Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches (Part 2)
Squad
Coloured Raine Squad Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep green with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was richly pigmented and had a soft, blendable texture that was a little drier to the touch, but it applied evenly and was easy to diffuse. It wore well for eight and a half hours before it started to fade.

Formula Overview

2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.
The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.
I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.
The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.
Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Level Up
Coloured Raine Level Up Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that was opaque after two layers. The texture was drier and more firmly-pressed in the pan compared to other shades, so it could have blended a bit more readily, though it wasn’t too troublesome to work with. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting and blendable." The majority of the shades were pigmented and long-wearing with some being very blendable and others requiring a little more effort, though they were, generally, workable and easy enough to use, particularly give the more matte finish and intense coverage/brightness. A few shades felt drier to the touch, almost grainy, which isn't uncommon in more red/pink-based shades, but this didn't seem to change the application. Most of the shades were lightly to moderately powdery, so I would recommend applying these prior to doing base makeup due to some fallout during application.
The caveat is that several shades are "not intended for use around the immediate eye area," and these shades are: Crushin', Splash, Sauce, Party Drip, Bossed Up, Cute, Vibez, Level Up, and Purp Smurf (which makes Neo Blue the only one not on the list). Most products labeled "Pigment" but look like eyeshadows include color additives that are not approved for usage on the eye in the US (see FDA's additive list here) but other regions (typically Canada and the EU) do allow these ingredients on the eye area. In this instance, the Vivid Pigments can contain Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, and Red 27 Lake that are shown as a "no" for eye usage per FDA.

Coloured Raine Yacht Life Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was drier and a bit thinner, which made it harder to work with on my lid as it was harder to diffuse and blend out. On me, it lasted for just over eight hours on me before I noticed fading.

Drip Drop
Coloured Raine Drip Drop Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery, so I would recommend tapping away excess and applying prior to any base products. It had good color payoff that sheered out a touch when I applied it to my lid, but it was buildable (and even easier to work with over primer). This shade wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

Neo Blue
Coloured Raine Neo Blue Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, cobalt blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was slightly dusty and a bit drier than I’d expect, but I didn’t have any trouble applying or blending out this shade on my skin. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Jet Set
Coloured Raine Jet Set Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark periwinkle with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage, which was harder to build up as the color had a tendency to sheer out to the more powdery consistency. I found it most workable when I used it to diffuse some of the deeper purples/blues in the collection, and then it worked nicely, but as a lid shade, it would likely need a white base to perform true-to-pan. This shade lasted nicely for seven hours on me before starting to look a bit patchy.

I screamed, in my mind b/c I’m at work, when I saw the ratings! I’m trying to keep my composure, but if the purples rate well, I’m buying, no questions asked. I don’t care about that 1 C+ b/c it’s doable and that is a hard shade to perfect. I don’t even need anymore colorful eyeshadows. I’m filled to the brim with them, but right now the ratings are too good to pass up.
Review should be up soon!
Those eye looks are works of art!
Squad is such a striking shade, but it would not be flattering with my eye color.
Squad is gorgeous!
It’s perfection, IMO. And you didn’t say it had a black base. since my eyes are deep set and hence, quasi-hooded, black based shades all look the same…black, rather than colored. My, that’s nice. And, these are perm? Jawohl! ( I think my comment changed places, sorry.)
Not bad! Periwinkle is always so troublesome.
Sadly, this is all too true!
It’s a bummer about Jet Set. I ordered it, along with Unbothered and Squad which both look excellent. Still excited to try it out. And I’m beyond happy to get my hands on Unbothered. 😀
Hopefully, you’ll have better luck with it, otherwise try a white base!
So far, I’m finding this particular range to be quite appealing and well done. Squad is, as I suspected upon seeing its first swatch, one glorious shade of deep green!? ??
So happy for Squad 🙂
Coloured Raine is showing all the brands how to do matte vivads really well. Stunning shades and strong pigmentation.
Agreed!
These excite me in the weirdest way. lol Other than Sugarpill Velocity I don’t own any dupes for these shades. 😉
Oooh, score 🙂
Okay, it’s official: I’m gonna order these in a few weeks, the quality for these brights is insane and hopefully teaches other brands that they need to step it up!
Enjoy them when you get ’em!
Hi. I was wondering if you found that Neo Blue got darker at all when on the eye. I don’t know if its because I have darker skin so I’m setting my primer (Urban Decay Anti-Aging Primer Potion) with a medium brown shadow, but as soon as it hits my lid the color darkens. It applies that cobalt blue color but immediately turns into a dark navy blue. I mean I like that color too but I’m trying to see if it’s the shadow itself or simply the products I’m applying it over. Thanks
I used Neo Blue here: https://www.temptalia.com/look/a-vibrant-blue-purple-eye-with-coloured-raine/
It was pretty vibrant / definitely a brighter blue – deep cobalt maybe? but not navy!
Ok, thanks! Mine turned much darker than that. Now that I know its not the actual shadow, I might try setting my primer with a translucent power. It might just not mix well with that deep of a brown. Thanks again for your help.
No problem! I hope it works better for you next time!
