Red Carpet

Clinique Red Carpet Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark red with neutral undertones and a cream finish. The lipstick had a lightweight, lightly creamy texture that was thin without feeling overly clingy, so it had more shine than it actually felt–that was a good thing as it ensured the color stayed in place. It had opaque pigmentation in one layer, which lasted nicely for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$19.50/0.13 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce

The formula is described as having "rich color" with a "smoothing primer" that "keeps lips comfortably moisturized." Most of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage in a single layer, and the shades that were a bit weaker were somewhat buildable. The deeper shades tended to perform the best, while a few of the lighter shades settled slightly into lip lines (not too noticeable, or not at all, in person).

Some shades were more smoothing than others, so I think the "smoothing primer" claim was the weakest and wasn't always met. The texture was lightweight, lightly creamy without being heavy or too slippery, and didn't tug during application. The formula was comfortable and hydrating while worn, and they lasted between four and six hours. There didn't seem to be any scent or taste.

Red-y-to-Wear

Clinique Red-y-to-Wear Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a deeper, pinky-red with cooler undertones and a cream finish. It had rich color coverage that applied comfortably across my lips as the consistency was lightweight with moderate slip, but it was slightly thin and had a touch of tackiness once on my lips. It lasted well for five hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Roses are Red

Clinique Roses are Red Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick ($19.50 for 0.13 oz.) is a bright, medium red with cooler, blue undertones and a cream finish with moderate shine. The texture was smooth, slightly firmer until it warmed up against my lips, but it had light glide and some slip as it applied. It had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and smoothed out most of my lip lines. It stayed on well for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

I think Burberry beauty has basically been discontinued. Go for the Clinique. Much of the Burberry could be too old to buy. eBay + closeout, etc. I always wanted that one, too.
