Chinoiserie
Cle de Peau Chinoiserie Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a natural sheen. It had good color payoff in a single layer, but it was not completely opaque on the lips. The lipstick had a smooth, creamyt exture that was lightweight with some slip, but it did not slide around as much on the lips as I thought it would, possibly as it had a bit of tackiness to it. The color went on very evenly across the lips and there was a touch of color in my deeper lip lines but all my lip lines still were softer and smoother. This shade lasted for four hours and was moisturizing over time.
The formula is supposed to have “ultra-vibrant, luminous HD color and rich lasting moisture” that has a “silk, semi-matte finish lasting for 8 hours.” Under “Key Benefits,” they repeat that it has a “long-lasting finish for up to 8 hours” and “delivers lasting moisture for up to 4 hours” (I swear, that seems like it’s switched–it would really make more sense for it to last for four hours but keep lips hydrated for longer than the color itself lasted). The consistency was lightweight, creamy with a more emollient feel as it applied that had a lightly tacky feel afterward. Color coverage varied from medium and buildable to mostly opaque with light to moderate shine. Some shades applied more smoothly across the lips and made my lips appear smoother and plumper but not all shades did so. The wear was four to six ours with some of the deeper, richer shades (like reds) wearing longer. I found the formula very hydrating and comfortable to wear. I did not notice any taste but they had a subtle, rosy scent.

China Doll
Cle de Peau China Doll Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, medium plum with subtle, warm undertones and a creamy finish with a light sheen. The consistency was lightweight, smooth, creamy but had a light tackiness to it after a few seconds that helped it adhere better than I expected it would (by just how creamy it felt going on). It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered the lips with even coverage and the texture of the lipstick camouflaged a lot of the texture of my lips but not all. It wore well for four and a half hours and was very hydrating.

Pillow Book
Cle de Peau Pillow Book Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep, reddened berry with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly, but there was color that pulled into my lip lines and made them appear darker. I also felt like the pigment did not seem as well-mixed as other shades as there flecks of product that were darker on my lips (more noticeable to the eye in the swatch). The texture was moderately emollient but did not feather on me when I tested it. The lipstick wore well five hours and was nicely hydrating.

These look great on ya:)
These lippies are just plain purdy.
And they seem luxurious to wear too!
They are lovely to look at!
These have such a gorgeous lip smoothing effect to them that really makes them a little bit difficult to resist! But at $65 a pop, Idk. If China Doll had rated a solid A or A+, I think resistance might have been futile. However, because HG Activist is just about a dead-on dupe, I’m finally getting that one! Meaningful name, too. ?
Some of them really do seem to make my lips look better and smoother – but it is a lot to pay for a temporary effect!
I so agree with you.
Are there any nude shades in this range? I’d love to check them out – seems like a very promising formula overall!
I posted swatches of all the shades earlier!
Not too crazy about the name China Doll, but the colors and finish are very pretty!
I was impressed that it wasn’t red with that name.
These are so pretty – I especially like Chinoiserie but I just can’t see paying that much when I find so many gorgeous lipsticks for less.
Oh yeah, lipstick is a category you can easily save on!
China Doll is really flattering for everyday! Too bad the price is soo steep!
I know 🙁
Pillow Book is a beautiful shade, but not for $65 and a C rating…..
Yeah, the wear time on these is nowhere near 8 hours!
These look absolutely gorgeous. But as always CdP’s lip products are so short lived after application I never buy them. (Which says a lot as I’m a diehard CdP fan.)
I feel like these last a bit longer (and from a texture standpoint, I think that would be true on others) than their typical formula due to the tackiness, but definitely, they are not super long-wearing.
They look nice! Would love if you could review all the Hourglass Confession lipsticks though first!
Hi Emily,
I’m working through numerous lip products – I aim for variety and speed, so trying to review several brands at once is more useful to readers than ignoring all other brands in favor of just one!
Oh no, I re-read my earlier comment and yikes, I’m sorry! You’re inundated with products and working through new ones gradually is definitely more fair. I think I rely on your reviews so much I’ve begun taking them for granted when it comes to new releases – not cool of me. I love how thorough and fair your reviews are and appreciate the time you spend testing each product 🙂
PS: In general, would you say that the quality of the Hourglass lipsticks is pretty consistent with the shades reviewed so far? (I’m totally begging for crumbs, lol. I admit it!)
Hi Emily,
I think that the swatches of the shades are fairly accurate of the story – you know, sometimes swatches look good and sometimes they look bad but then the review is different? These seem pretty consistent so far but any deficiencies have been visible through swatches, at least thus far (e.g. lack of opacity or more slip vs. less slip).
Thanks! This is a super helpful….might have to pull the trigger on a couple more shades ?
The formula seems pretty consistent amongst the shades I have so far as well…just longevity and I other factors you pointed out differs a bit. I have to say, the one thing that really bothers me is the lack of name on the tube! I know the idea is to switch refills between one applicator (according to the complicated instruction manual) but it’s a pain to have to open the tubes to identify the colour.
Thanks again, Christmas 🙂
I love the look of these! They look so glossy and beautiful!
China Doll is pretty and has caught my eye, but I think I’ll look at the dupes first.
