Charlotte Tilbury Carina's Star, Red Hot Susan, Amazing Amal Matte Revolution Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Carina's Star
Charlotte Tilbury Carina’s Star Matte Revolution Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark coral with strong, warm orange undertones and a satin sheen. The texture was lightweight, smooth and velvety as it glided across my lips, and very thin. It was prone to emphasizing lip texture, my lip lines, and sank into my lines noticeably. The color payoff was medium to semi-opaque and did not go on evenly. It lasted for three hours on me and was non-drying.

Formula Overview
$37.00/0.12 oz. - $308.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "long-lasting color" that's "buildable" with "glowing pigments" that give the "illusion of wider, fuller lips." Some shades are buildable while others are fairly pigmented in one stroke. The consistency was more velvety, lightweight, and thin without being clingy or drying over time. I found that some shades were flattering on, as they didn't emphasize lip texture or get into my lip lines, while other shades gravitated into my lip lines. They wore between three and five hours and were typically non-drying. There was no discernible scent or taste.

Red Hot Susan
Charlotte Tilbury Red Hot Susan Matte Revolution Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich copper with warm, red undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in one, fluid stroke with color that adhered evenly across my lips. There was the faintest amount of product that sank into my deeper lip lines (center of lower lip) but not enough that I could see it in person (just in the close-up photo!). The consistency was smooth, velvety, and thin, so it was lightweight but did not feel clingy. It stayed on nicely for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Amazing Amal
Charlotte Tilbury Amazing Amal Matte Revolution Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly and smoothly without dragging across my lips. The texture was velvety, lightweight, and thin without being clingy, though there was a smidgen of product that sat in my deeper lip lines–but not enough that it was noticeable at a normal viewing distance. It wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Amal is very nice.
Okay, I’m probably weird, but I don’t enjoy the idea of wearing lipstick named after someone specific. I had (have) the same problem with the Tom Ford lipsticks. Even if I for some reason feel I can identify with the person it’s named for, it goes straight into the “con” column for purchase decision-making. I can appreciate what some of these people are doing (wanting to give credit to their inspirations, or just draw attention to people they admire), but … just doesn’t work for me. I do hope I’m the odd one out, as giving credit to one’s inspirations is a noble thing (even if there’s money involved).
Just talking off the top of my head here …
The shades are lovely, but Red Hot Susan is a stunner on you, Christine (and now on my wish list).
Amazing Amal and Red Hot Susan are truly gorgeous shades of lipsticks. Of the 2, I would would likely try on Amazing Amal as one of my first choices. I just don’t know yet which one *may* possibly be coming home with me, if any.
I bought Amazing Amal and it looks like a red lipstick on me…haha.
These are in the Matte Revolution formula?!?!?! I thought they were all in the K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula and my money was safe 🙂
I like Amal, but I might have a dupe, I have to check. Red Hot Susan is also very pretty but I’ve been wanting MAC Chili for ages and will probably buy it instead of splurging on CT.
It’s 50/50 split between the two formulas!
Thank you! I probably didn’t read the description. CT Matte Revolution is one of my favourite lipstick formulas. K.I.S.S.I.N.G is one or the all time worst on my lips, it migrates to the outer lip line, or maybe it breaks down and disappears except on the outer rim, anyway, after less than two hours it’s a lipstick nightmare.
I love the Red Hot Susan shade and I can see why, when I look at the dupe list – it has Foolish by CP as one of the dupes, which is my favourite shade.
