Chanel Vivant & Seduisant Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colours Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Vivant (144) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour
Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “long-lasting” liquid lipstick that “glides on like a gloss and sets with a luminous, velvet-like finish” and is hydrating. In my experience, they had semi-opaque to opaque coverage, while the wear time was between four and six hours (about the same as similarly hued-lipsticks) but was comfortable to wear and definitely non-drying. What I liked most about the product was actually the applicator, which was very smooth and easy to work with on the lips, as it had enough flex to maneuver naturally across the lips and made it easy to get crisp lines on the edges with it.
These are not for someone who likes a truly matte, flat finish that wears all day long, doesn’t budge or transfer, because these never quite dry down. They take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes to “set” to a velvety finish–a light sheen but not glossy–and aren’t transfer-proof; I get closer to transfer-proof wear after several sips of coffee or blotting it down (which is true with the majority of lip products) but will not make it through a meal fully intact. They do reapply well, and they wear down evenly, so for someone who likes a semi-matte finish, longer wearing lip products, and finds traditional matte, liquid lipstick formulas too drying, these might be worth checking out. They are housed in a frosted glass tube with a glossy black cap and are lightly scented with rose (I’ll say it is subtler than usual for Chanel). All swatches were taken 30 minutes after initial application.
Chanel Vivant (144) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a brighter, medium coral-pink with warmer undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied fairly evenly, though I had a touch of streaking in some places. The texture felt thin, almost watery initially, but it dried and set to a satin-to-matte finish with faint pearl, which was flattering on the lips. This shade wore for just over five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Chanel La Favorite (43) (P, $45.00) is lighter (95% similar). KVD Beauty Bachelorette (P, $20.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Mandarin O (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Laura Mercier Joanne (LE, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). NARS Rouge Immortel (LE, $27.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Chanel Seduisant (146) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink-coral with warm undertones, fine pearl, and satin finish. It had mostly opaque coverage, though some areas seemed slightly semi-opaque but was hard to tell at a normal viewing distance due to the bright, richer color overall. The texture was smooth, comfortable to wear, and didn’t cling to lips. This shade took almost 45 minutes to really “dry” to its more velvety, semi-matte finish. It wore well for six hours on me and was just a touch hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Je t'aime (238) (P, $30.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC La Vie En Rouge (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, glossier (95% similar). Chanel La Malicieuse (46) (DC, $45.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever #37 (DC, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (90% similar). KVD Beauty Bachelorette (P, $20.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Revlon Love That Pink (P, $8.49) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Vivant (144) (P, $45.00) is darker, more muted, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Fortune Favors (P, $7.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). ColourPop Naked Ladies (LE, $7.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Kelly (P, $34.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Core Cora (234) (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Definitely not matte, but your lips look comfortable.. maybe more akin to CP ultra satins. Are these permanent or LE? I need to re-explore the colour range..
I think they’re permanent, as Chanel.com doesn’t list the Rouge Allure Inks as limited edition (they list some things as limited edition).
Yes that is what I thought, too, like colourpop ultra satins.
It think I will try it because I like the colours very much. I only have a problem with products that have a rose smell. And I have in my mind that all Chanel lip products I have tried had an aweful taste so that I could not use them.
I adore Seduisant and have been wearing for several weeks now. Luxuriant is my second . It is a lovely berry color.
Nice! How is the wear of the formula for you, Pamyla? I have seen reviews say 12+ hours and others than 3 hours, lol!
I tried one of these (differet colour) in store and I liked it. It applied well in store with the applicator and I normally can’t apply well without a lip pencil. It didn’t feel drying and while it didn’t fully last after lunch it wasn’t like an uneven weird stain but like a normal faded lip colour. Might pick one up.
Glad you liked it when you tried! I feel like these will work for someone who doesn’t normally like liquid lipsticks. Really good to hear that you were able to apply it well with the applicator without a liner 😀
These look gorgeous on you, Christine! Especially Seduisant. I love these kind of pinky-coral colors. I wish they looked as good on me as they do on you!
Thank you, Fran! 🙂 Ah, I am sure there are colors that look better on you than I, though! So we can be envious of each other!
I don’t know, Christine, I think that almost everything you try looks good on you! It’s possible that blues, periwinkles, and very blue-leaning purples look more natural on me than on you, maybe, but you pull them off just fine!
These sound like my kind of matte liquid lip formula and they’re both pretty colors. Wish the price wasn’t as high for them.
Totally understand!
Those take a long time to set which is not very practical 🙁
I don’t feel like they are super wet for the whole time, but they don’t have the full dry down until later, you know?
These are very nice. I like the finish quite a bit.
They are!
Formula-wise, do you prefer these or the NARS Velvet Glides? I know their finishes are different, but that’s the only other recent attempt at liquid lipsticks by a high-end brand that I could think of.
Well, they feel really different on the lips – the Chanel formula clings/adheres more noticeably, whereas the NARS feels smoother and thicker.
How ironic! I *just* hot reminded of how much I love my MAC La Vie End Rouge, and how much it’s been neglected and for quite awhile. Last night’s question immediately came to mind!
*got, not hot!
Haha! Perfect timing!
This formula sounds very interesting — do you also have other colors to review?
Sorry, I only purchased four of them!
No worries, I will check them out at next swatchfest !
Wow these color are gorgeous! I’m so tempted…!
Which shade do you like, Sarah?
I must look into these. Sounds like a nice formula, good for winter when my lipst gets dry, I’d think.
Seduisant is my favourite of the two.
Not that it should matter, but the packaging! Beautiful!
They should work well in the winter or on drier lips!
Wow, these are quite beautiful. They definitely look more satin than matte, but the colors are so stunning, who cares?
The finish ends up working, I think!
Beautiful you and beautiful Chanel
Thank you!
