Nightfall

Chanel Nightfall Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had very subtle pearl–the kind that yielded more of a noticeable sheen than a true frost or shimmery finish. The texture was lightweight, thin without being clingy, and velvety so it never tugged on the lips and was comfortable to apply and to wear. It had nearly opaque pigmentation, and the color applied evenly and smoothly on the lips. This shade lasted for six and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating on my lips.

Formula Overview

$45.00/0.12 oz. - $375.00 Per Ounce

The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is supposed to be a "non-drying matte lipstick" with "intensely rich, long-wearing colour" and has a "velvet matte finish." Over time, I felt like the formula has improved and is actually non-drying (the original launch did not wear well on me) to lightly drying (seen more in shades that have lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, glide-on feel that doesn't feel particularly creamy or wet, yet the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts for. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no discernible taste.

First Light

Chanel First Light Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, though it was just shy of being opaque as there was a veil of translucency still. The texture was smooth, velvety without being wet or slippery, and it glided on without tugging on the lips. It was thinner but did not feel clingy, though there was a bit of color that sat in my lip lines that was less noticeable from a normal viewing distance due to the brighter color and greater coverage level. This shade lasted well for five hours and was non-drying.

I love how both shades brighten your look. I have enough orange/orange-red lipsticks, so it’s a pass on First Time. Nightfall is a possibility if the blue undertones are slight, though I went on a red lipstick buying spree earlier this year courtesy of extra discount at the CCO. I do love Rouge Allure Lipsticks, though.

I’ve been enjoying your reviews of Chanel Fall 2017 lipsticks and eyeshadows. Will you review the Palette Essentielle? So curious about it! Thanks, and have a great day!

Nightfall is incredibly pretty. As soon as I saw it on you. Got it. Just hate when good products are listed Limited edition. Got 2 just in case it goes out of stores quickly.
