Chanel La Merveilleuse (347) Rouge Allure Velvet ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as an “intense raspberry red.” It’s a bright, fuchsia pink with subtle blue undertones that ends up appearing almost warm-toned. It had a mostly matte finish. The texture was velvety smooth and glided right on with even, mostly opaque color payoff. It was comfortable to wear for four hours, and then it felt a little drying for the next two (six hours in total). Urban Decay Alpha (DC, $18.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Dangerously Red (P, $19.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Pat McGrath Full Panic (LE, $38.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Notorious (P, $60.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Moxie (LE, $19.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). MAC A Killing Smile (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC All Fired Up (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). Anastasia #12 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is darker, more muted, less glossy (90% similar). NARS You're No Good (P, $26.00) is more muted, less glossy (90% similar). Anastasia Chrome Red (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Jared (P, $36.00) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Mucho (P, $7.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Candy Cane (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Candy Venom (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Fall in Love (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Intoxica (LE, $19.00) is brighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Billion Dollar Smile (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, cooler, glossier (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M204 (DC, $22.00) is less glossy (90% similar). MAC To Matte with Love (P, $21.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Toucan (LE, $7.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Chane Rouge Noir (109) Rouge Allure ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “black red.” It’s a medium-dark, reddish plum with warm undertones and a natural shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a lightweight, creamy consistency that never tugged while applying. It was, however, a little streaky at times, and the lack of opacity seemed to emphasize that. On me, the color wore four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating. I didn’t experience feathering, but those who are more prone to it, this one seemed to have enough slip that I would consider using it with a liner. MAC Runner (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Liquorice (DC, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Berry Mojito (P, $21.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). Maybelline Divine Wine (P, $7.99) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Plum (LE, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Liquorice (DC, $26.00) is darker, brighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Black Cherry (LE, $24.00) is brighter, warmer (85% similar). Tarte Manbun (P, $20.00) is darker (85% similar). Estee Lauder Desirous (P, $32.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Shame (DC, $18.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Tarte Frenemy (P, $20.00) is darker, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

While both look quite beautiful, they also both have cheaper, high quality dupes, especially for La Merveilleuse with those two All Fired Up’s!
Rouge Noir looks great, but so much lighter than it’s tube would indicate! I don’t need it though because I have MAC Deep Love. Which is perfection!

Le Merveilleuse looks great on you, esp. with the matching earrings! Rouge Noir is kind of disappointing -with a name, description, and tube color, I was expecting a super vampy, dark chocolate red, but it looks watered down, and at this price, it shouldn’t be streaky

I’m somewhat disappointed in both. La Merveilluese ( if I brought the spelling down right) looks like it would have a tinge more red in it which I was hoping for. Noir Red looks too sheer. It needs a liner to look nice. For $36 these need to be perfect. Okay, on the first. It’s just a shade I don’t gravitate toward maybe. But, why couldn’t Chanel get Noir red spot on?! UGH.

Omg Le Merveilleuse is GORGEOUS. I wanted CP’s toucan badly, but never got it because you said it was super dry. THIS, I NEED.
Christine, I have two versions of Chanel’s Rouge Noir from years past, and they’re both quite a bit darker than this one. How would you say it’s formulation compares (if you have any older versions)?

Helene Avatar

Maybe my memory is playing tricks, but I thought Rouge Noir was so much darker and really opaque. I had it, a long time ago, and if I’m not mistaken (and I may very well be) It was black-red, really dark , with a bit of a brownish hint.
Please correct me, if anyone else had and remember it.
I didn’t much care for this new Rouge Noir, the other one is very pretty, though.

I find the sheerness of it disappointing as well. The Hydrabase formulation that they discontinued in 2010 was much more opaque and a tiny bit browner/warmer, closer to MAC Runner than this current iteration.

I have an old tube of Rouge Noir, and it looks quite different from this (far more blackened and opaque; far less berry red and shiny). I swatched the new one today, and got a bit of a shock. I did like the creaminess of the new formulation, but it’s just not as fabulously, lusciously vamp as the old one, and I had no idea they were changing it.

Do you know if the old formula has been completely replaced now? Should I nurse my beloved old tube like a baby?

I bought it yesterday, after reading your review. I was a bit nervous, as I am not comfortable with matte finishes. So far, I like it. When I swatched it at the counter, it resembled Suspense coco shine to me. (minus glossy finish)

Hi Christine,
Hope you are well.
I’m desperately in love with The Chanel Vamp Attitude Collection for Holiday 2015, particularly the rouge allure lipstick in shade 237-Vamporeuse Light pink purple. I have one and almost run out and since they are limited edition, I have tried my best to find at every store in Australia (and online) and no luck. Would you know any dupes for this shade? If anyone else knows, feel free to reply me 🙂 Thank you so so much! In anticipation, Del 🙂
