Burberry Primrose & Magenta Liquid Lip Velvets Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Primrose (21)
Burberry Primrose (21) Liquid Lip Velvet ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a brighter, medium peony pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque coverage in one layer, while the consistency was spreadable, velvety, mousse-like, and lightweight on the lips. This shade lasted for five and a half hours on me but some color pulled into lip lines after three and a half hours of wear. I was able to rub my lips together to smooth the color back out, though. The formula was comfortable to wear and non-drying.
The Liquid Lip Velvet formula is described as having “rich pigment, smooth application” and a “velvet finish that lasts up to eight hours” that is “non-drying.” Overall, the formula is fantastic for those who want the fluidity of a liquid product without the drying aspect of more traditional liquid lipsticks while not sacrificing wear time. The formula does not dry down completely, so there will be transfer, but the product is so pigmented that the color lasts awhile. I’ve found the colors to wear between six and eight hours and easily survive a solid meal. The liquid lipstick has a smooth, velvety consistency that is almost weightless (I forget I’m wearing it) that was never drying and always comfortable to wear. A pleasant surprise was that the formula was unscented (with no discernible taste either), which is not the norm with Burberry’s products.

Magenta (33)
Burberry Magenta (33) Liquid Lip Velvet ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bold, bright, medium-dark fuchsia-red with a lightly glossy shine and warmer undertones. The color payoff was quite good–almost opaque–and applied evenly, but the texture had more slip and sank into my lip lines from the get-go. The bolder, brighter color made it harder to detect at a normal viewing distance, but you can see the color in my lip lines in the close-up photo. The color lasted for eight hours, left a stain behind, and never felt drying.

I’m wondering if there are batch issues with Burberry. Your swatches for the brilliant violet, bright plum, and primrose and significantly brighter than mine. Your primrose looks more pink and mine looks more rose. I still like all but the plum (which is nice but too dark for what I wanted) and probably would not have purchased the violet and plum had your swatches looked like what I actually got.
That is interesting to hear! I’d be surprised if there were batch issues, mostly because I’d expect everything to be made in the same timeframe (as it’s new). Can’t say I’ve changed my lighting/equipment at all recently so all of that should be the same!
I’m glad you like all but one, at least!
The quality is certainly there. I mean for me to feel ok with wearing a matte is a huge accomplishment for any brand. Although I do feel that brands overall are doing much better with their matte formulas than in years past…where it was like a trip across the Sahara!
Magenta is sooo
pretty and springlike! I love it! But Idk if I feel like plunking down that much on a B+ lipstick that actually looks a lot like my beloved UD Catfight? Maybe different enough?
I feel like there are better performing shades (worth the $) in the range beyond Magenta!
Oh, Magenta is lovely!
It is!
I love Primrose! I think the nude colours in the range have got to be some of my favourites!
It’s a lovely shade!
Lovely colors! Especially Primrose tickles my fancy.
Primrose is so beautiful!!Very spring.
These look lovely formula-wise but the colors bore me.
Gotcha!
