Burberry Lilac, Ruby, Black Cherry Lip Velvets Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Lilac (424)
Burberry Lilac (424) Lip Velvet Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is medium, fuchsia magenta with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. The color was good, though it wasn’t full coverage in a single stroke. The lipstick had a very smooth, velvety consistency that glided on with ease and applied even color across the lips. The richness of the hue itself helped to minimize the appearance of the color in my deeper lip lines. This shade wore well for six hours and left a subtle stain behind, while the formula seemed non-drying to me.
The formula is described as a “bold, full coverage” lipstick with a “creamy, soft-matte finish” that is “non-drying” and “comfortable.” The lipstick formula has a very velvety consistency–waxier than like a traditional cream, as it was thinner but never dragged on the lips–with good pigmentation that typically applied evenly. The one issue I experienced with most of the shades I tried (only six) was there was some color that had settled into my lip lines noticeably, whether shortly after applying or as the color wore. Most shades lasted four hours with some that lasted for six hours, and the formula was comfortable and non-drying.

Ruby (434)
Burberry Ruby (434) Lip Velvet Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff that glided onto the lips with ease and yielded even coverage. The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and comfortable to wear as the formula wasn’t drying (though it wasn’t hydrating either!). The color stayed on well for five and a half hours, and there was a faint, pinkish stain left behind.

Black Cherry (439)
Burberry Black Cherry (439) Lip Velvet Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a dark burgundy with subtle, warm brown undertones and fine pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and of the six I tried, this one applied the least evenly. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen in this color family, but it had room for improvement. It was also much more emollient compared to other shades in the formula and had a noticeable sheen. It wore well for five and a half hours and was lightly hydrating.

Lilac is really a fun color! Yet not too bright ?.
Ruby seems like a classy red. I have to check but I think I have something similar! Hehe
I bet you do! 🙂
Black Cherry is such a dramatic shade, love it! No matter how many times I see such a color, my heart still skips a beat
It is!
Lilac and Ruby look amazing! If I didn’t already have close shades, I would put them on the WL.
Black Cherry could have, and at this price point, SHOULD have been way better! If it had been, I would be in trouble, though, LOL.
Thank goodness you have similar shades already, Nancy!
UGH. I love all three of these.
I totally have to spring for lilac, because I shockingly, don’t own anything like it!
I hope you love it, Shannon!
Sigh… I’m a sucker for beautiful red lipsticks! Ruby is gorgeous on you
Haha, me too! Thank you, Rosie! 😀
Lilac is beautiful.
It is!
No way could I afford all three of these atm, and yet I can’t help but admire them. Darn you, Burberry!
Aww! They are permanent, at least!
Black Cherry looks like it needs a liner but I love the color.
A liner would be a good idea for that shade!
Love the Black Cherry shades, however I have Midnight Merlot from Maybelline – it has the same rating B and is a lot less $$$.
Phew! 🙂
Lilac is such a unique, beautiful shade! Love it!
Lilac is really pretty. I have Have Your Cake, so I can skip it.
Perfect 😀
