bareMinerals The Wish List READY Eyeshadow Palette
bareMinerals The Wish List READY Eyeshadow Palette

bareMinerals The Wish List READY Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.48 oz.) includes 12 neutral-hued eyeshadows in a variety of finishes. It is housed in a fairly slim, plastic compact with a large mirror inside. If you like lighter, warmer neutrals and don’t already have them well-represented in your stash, it’s certainly a palette to consider. On the other hand, as there are numerous palettes that have been launched, there are likely many who already have these colors in their collections (this palette also included several repeats from past bareMinerals shades). Regardless of similarity to past and present neutral palettes, I would have liked to have seen more mid-tone shades and less very light all within the same palette–I feel like it would have made the palette more versatile.

Formula Overview

Ready Eyeshadow is supposed to have 12-hour wear, “vivid, pure, provocative color” that “looks like a powder, feels like a cream” and blends seamlessly. In general, I quite enjoy this formula, and it’s one of my favorites, as it is typically soft without being too powdery or dusty and more shimmery shades have a real creaminess to them. They wear between eight and twelve hours on me (without primer), blend well, and sit nicely on the skin. The majority of the shades I’ve tested in the past have been mostly opaque to opaque, but there have been a few misses over the years (not too many, though).

Value

  • Eyeshadows: $21.00 for 0.09 oz. or $233.33/oz.
  • Palette Contains: 0.48 oz.
  • Total Value: $112.00 worth of Ready Eyeshadow

Merry is a light pink with subtle, warmer undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too powdery or too firm in the pan. Granted is a muted, medium orangy-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. While the pigmentation was fairly good and true-to-pan, the texture was noticeably dusty and prone to sheering out, so it was harder to apply it as an even layer of product. The wear was shorter than usual at seven and a half hours. Ciate Skinny Dip (LE, )(100% similar). Huda Beauty Chocolate Brown #5 (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Yes Please is a medium-dark, taupe brown with warm, golden undertones and a pearly sheen. It appeared to have a grayer overtone than it seemed in the palette, and I couldn’t really tell you why; my best guess is the shimmer comes through more noticeably as it is pressed and worked into the skin than it is in the pan. The color had good pigmentation and wore for nine hours before fading. Sephora + Pantone Universe Cocoa Brown (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). Viseart Toffee (Dark Matte #1) (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Soft Steel (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Stila Character (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Stiletto is a deep plum with lighter purple shimmer over a mostly matte finish. It is the type of finish where the shimmer is barely noticeable in action, as it seems to disappear between the pan, your brush, and the eye. The product was extremely rich in pigment, while the consistency was soft, finely-milled, and fairly blendable on the lid. It wore well for nine hours before I saw some signs of fading. Too Faced Soiree (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Chanel Rouge Contraste (132) (LE, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Punk (DC, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Chance is a light beige with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that tended to have some fall out when applied to the skin (even after tapping excess off of my brush). Daydream is a light-medium, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery, which resulted in sheerer coverage and a powder that did not want to stick as evenly to bare skin as other shades in the palette. It lasted for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably. LORAC Buff (PiP, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #11 (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Gold Leaf is a muted, medium coppery orange with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, slightly drier texture that kicked up excess powder in the pan. Boardroom is a deep brown with warmer, redder undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff paired with a dusty, thin texture, which made it harder to blend, apply, and even out. I think I have to give either Bobbi Brown or Bare Minerals an award for the most repetitive palette colors ever. And it’s disappointing that the 2 darker matte browns got D+, as those are easy shades to get right. I really feel that BM has become very lazy, and is just throwing the same old shades into one palette after another, and the quality appears to be slipping too

I am not too impressed. I think I have become jaded and it really takes a lot more to impress me these days. I have tons of eye shadows that swatch better and are similar in color. Maybe all of the amazing colors have already been done? It is an easy pass for me.

Only now am I taking a closer look at the whole palette (Bling, Bubbles and Yes Please had caught my eye earlier and I love those) and I realize that 2 of the shadows (Daydream and Boardroom) are 2 I already have. Boardroom in The Power Neutrals palette scored much better than it does here and the same goes for Daydream in The Escape duo. I don’t know how makeup is made or how formulas are stored for further manufacture later on but it surprises me that they’d make the same shades again and have them be soooo bad (mind you, I commented on just how different 2 of those new Buxom eyeshadows I bought are from what their names suggest and how they appeared here when you reviewed them – THAT was actually very surprising to me).

Christine Avatar

It can sometimes just be the way they are pressed – the machinery or manufacturer might be different, and they could just be using more pressure to press the eyeshadow than the last time. The opposite is true – you could not use enough pressure and get a more loosely packed eyeshadow, which might be pigmented but may also have a lot of dustiness/powderiness to it! Just that minor change can have a ripple effect!

This is a palette that contains the most dupes I have ever seen. Bareminerals, Tarte and Too Faced are not doing their loyal customers any favours by putting out palettes that contain shades that beauty lovers already have in abundance.
Secondly, one of the shades that rated a D ( eg Boardroom), bareminerals have ALREADY created a similar shade Foreshadow, that rates an A. Why didn’t they use the same formula here? (Shakes her head).
Not surprising, this will be an easy pass for most.

I don’t think any company is more repetitive than Tarte when it comes to eyeshadow palettes. The fact that they have very few permanent shadows makes it even easier to do this, I think, because by the time a new palette comes out, some of the older and virtually identical ones have been discontinued so there’s little to compare against. And now that they do have single shadows, they’re online only, which for someone like me is absolutely infuriating.

Provocative? Yeah, that’s in the copy. Of what? Yawning? I know it’s midnight EDT (dst goes away in Nov this year, for those that thought the calendar makers had forgotten to put it on this year) and I suffer from TMS, but really! This is esp annoying, bec bm can do a great pressed e/s in the ready formula, for those who actually want a neutral palettte. My next full on neutral palette will be Viseart, if muse does the 2fer next year, or I’ll wait for Sephora sale in 2017. Got enough neutrals to last til Armageddon. Actually, enough e/s, but what’s an addiction without a fix? This BE holiday stuff looks like eyeshadow for missionaries. Straight, grossly conservative, and unadventurous. Hope I have not offended any missionaries who might be readers.

I’m not really into warm neutral eyeshadow palettes, but this does have a few colors that I quite like — Bling, Yes Please, an Come True caught my eye (Come True would be a good blending shade for me). But for some reason this eyeshadow formula does not perform as well on my eyelids as it does on yours, Christine. The colors just seem to look less intense/kind of faded on my lids, even as I apply them.
