MAC Pink Sprinkle of Shine Set Review & Swatches
Pink
MAC Pink Sprinkle of Shine Set ($49.50 for 0.34 oz.) is a new, limited edition set exclusively available at Macy’s, which contains new shades of Extra Dimension Skinfinish and Dazzleglass with a new, larger fan-style brush with synthetic bristles. The set also included a zippered pouch. Starquake and Unleash the Stars performed consistently with their formulas. The brush has only gone through an initial review, as the set released for the holidays, and it seemed to be made fine, felt soft, but if I was thinking of a brush to include in a set, I would have gone with a more classic tapered highlighting or domed blush brush.

Starquake
Starquake is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cooler undertones but much warmer, gold shimmer throughout, so it appeared slightly warmer in tone overall, especially when blended out. The texture was smooth to the touch, slightly denser and firmer without becoming stiff. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The product diffused easily and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me.

Unleash the Stars
Unleash the Stars is a light-medium, translucent peach base with flecks of gold, pink, and peach sparkle throughout. It had sheer coverage that applied evenly to my lips and had a “semi-sheer” level of coverage in the form of shimmer/sparkle. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and lightly tacky, but it adhered well and lasted for three hours on me, while the formula felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "medium coverage" with a "non-sticky, lightweight and moisturizing" texture that can be worn "alone" or over another lip color. They are vanilla-scented like most of the brand's lip products. The coverage can vary from shade to shade but most Dazzleglasses are semi-sheer to medium in coverage with light to moderate amounts of larger sparkles. They usually have a mix of finer pearl and larger sparkle/micro-glitter in them, though the consistency is thicker and helps prevent the feeling of glitter on the lips. The one thing I find to be untrue about their claims is with respect to tackiness--Dazzleglasses are absolutely tacky and moderately at that. Most shades last between four and six hours and are lightly hydrating.

143SES Medium Face Fan Brush
143SES Medium Face Fan Brush is a medium-large, dense fan brush that has a strong curve from edge to edge and flares outward from the base, which gives a very full, dense feeling. It picked up product well from the powder, but it was easy to over-apply due to the size and density. For a sheerer formula, it might work better and be more forgiving to use. On my face shape/size, it felt overly large and didn’t work well for depositing and blending out color precisely; I had to use one-third of the left or right side to get it to work.
The brush is made out of synthetic fibers, so it felt soft and smooth against my skin, and I didn’t notice any stray or poking bristles while using it in various motions. There were a few bristles that weren’t properly lined up with the edge on inspection. I felt like the brush worked better for more all-over products, like a bronzer along the perimeter of the face or translucent powder.
Nothing about the way it was made or felt, at least initially, seemed to suggest that there’d be issues with the construction/durability over time, though I have not tried the majority of MAC’s brushes since they changed over to all synthetic.
I’m hoping to possibly snap this set up on Friday. Perhaps, even with a discount from Macy’s, if I’m lucky. That blush is right up my alley! Plus, I do love a good sheer, yet sparkly gloss for winter when my lips tend to need something to protect them a bit more. I’d be using the brush for finishing powder, because my Kabuki brush seems to be weak in comparison to this.
I got this and I’m wearing it today and I LOOOOOOOVE it. The brush is really nice in my opinion.
That blush is beautiful – what a glorious shade, but I find the lipgloss to be underwhelming – although it would be good as a lip topper.
Can you get the blush without the other stuff? It is gorgeous!!
It is a set!
Too bad my daughter doesn’t care for shimmer in her blushes, (who doesn’t love shimmer in blushes and where did I get this child, LOL), or this would have been a nice set for an Advent box. Starting in about September, I am all about the Advent calendar and trying to find things to put in the boxes. This year I am going with a makeup theme, well every year I go with a makeup theme, but this year I am adding some desk/office supplies. I am hoping that she will actually write some letters!!
