Milani Bold Color Statement Matte Lipstick ($6.99 for 0.15 oz.) are new for spring and just released this week on Milani’s website. There are 17 shades but two were sold out when I placed my order, so, unfortunately, I only have 15 of the shades, which are swatched in this post.

I love the names (puts me in mind of the Hourglass lip pencils that I was hoping would herald a move away from sexually charged or drug-related names for products) and I am Motivated and I am Strong look like my sorts of colours. I wonder if these will be available in Canada (Milani is here but with a much diminished range of “stuff”). Christine, what is the finish of these? Please tell me they’re NOT matte!

I totally missed that and I even read through the copy twice looking for the info (blame Christmas Day brunch! all the carbs and scones with Devonshire cream have clogged my brain cells) but I did look at your descriptions of the individual shades and some seem to have a “satin-y” type finish so fingers crossed!

I was cringing at the names, but you are right that this is a welcome change from the usual variety of cringy names. I’d rather have this that a lipstick called Booty Call.

Happy Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a lovely day.

I love Milani’s lipsticks and would have preferred a more glossier finish, however these look pretty good. Like Mariella, I am so thrilled about the positive names of the shades. I am Confident is a great shade.

Pretty good color range! Could use some darker “nudes” and corals/oranges but I for one appreciate a more “traditional” selection of colors. Sometimes you just really want a good, solid everyday wear kinda color. Looking forward to what you think of them!

It is so appealing and refreshing to see these positive messages on each shade! One catch, another company that is a bit smaller and less well-known than Milani has done this already. I cannot recall the name offhand, but Michele@BinxCat would know. Makes me wonder if there will be a lawsuit for copyright infringement because the names sound terribly familiar. I hope not, because we need this move in a more upbuilding, empowering direction.

I think the line is Real Her. If Michele/Binx is still reading: I wish she would write/opine again. Do like the videos:moving swatches show how products catch the light well. For a good laugh, I had a customer who swore/insisted that Milani was Melania Trump’s line. MPO is that inspirational names are as cliched as sex-related ones. If it’s on tote bags at dollar stores, along with the mermaids and the unicorns, it’s overexposed and passé. But the good aspect is you won’t be loathe to say it, should you be asked.

Yes, KJH, it is Real Her! Last night, I couldn’t remember the name for the life of me. And I was wracking my brain, at that. Definitely like the aspect of being able to say their names out loud without feeling uncomfortable, ie; TF F*cking Fabulous, Nars Pussy Control. I’d have probably skipped the beginning “I Am _” and just had different positive attributes as names.

Yeah, working in public at night, you do get asked. Hell, at day job, i’d get fired for even quoting some of the names. I actually plan what to call them that’s less ‘charged.’ I’ve wondered if some of the gents were thinking of getting a product for their wives/gfs, rather than complimenting me…and were surprised by the actual names, when they went online. Who wants to say Do Me Baby, esp to a semihot guy, esp at my age? I’m going to look at Binx tonight.

These look like they are trying to be a drugstore dupe of ABH Matte Lipsticks- down to the black & gold packaging, matte formula, and the color selection- nudes, warms, and a couple bold shades such as black, purple, and hot pink. Compare “I Am Cool” to “Rage” Compare “I am Invincible” to “Midnight” etc.

I really liked the Milani Color Statement Matte Lipsticks in the gold square tubes (even though I’m not a fan of gold packaging). Those had a nice, non-drying formula, and a pleasant sweet vanilla scent. I hope this line is not meant to replace the Color Statement Matte’s.

As others are mentioning, I also looove the names of the shades! I Am Motivated and some of the nudes seem to be my sorts of colours 🙂 Recently DI (Drugstore franchise in Belgium) has started to carry Milani in store, hopefully they bring these lippies as well!

A cheap good looking drug store black. How far we have come since the late 80s (wet-n-wild was the only black and it only adhered to the outer part of one’s lips).

On the other hand, I owned about $15 of makeup back then, total (black lipstick, white powder, black eyeliner, red lip liner to use as eyeliner, two or three black nail polishes – also wet-n-wild – they needed to be aged), so it wasn’t all bad!
