The Night's Quad

Wet ‘n’ Wild The Night’s Quad Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad ($2.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that featured a light taupe, yellow beige, medium black, and frosted silver. It wasn’t one of the brand’s best efforts–the textures were either dry or powdery, prone to sheering out, less blendable, and had poorer wear.

Ingredients

Talc, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ethyl Macadamiate, Boron Nitride, Dimethicone, Silica, Nylon-12, Magnesium Myristate, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Polybutene, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Lauroyl Lysine, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, o-Cymen-5-ol, Water/Eau, Tin Oxide, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Aluminum Hydroxide, [+/- (MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR): Iron Oxides/CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, Mica, Titanium Dioxide/CI 77891, Ultramarines/CI 77007].

The Night's Quad #1

The Night’s Quad #1 is a soft taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a moderately powdery texture, though it was smooth and finely-milled. Applied to bare skin, it had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation but had some fallout. It wore well for six and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to be "powerfully pigmented" with a "butter-soft" texture that "glides on like a dream." The majority of the eyeshadows are on the drier side, sometimes feeling loosely pressed and other times more chalk-like and truly dry to the point where a primer became a must for getting good adhesion and wear out of the formula. Most of the matte shades were quite pigmented, and I found they actually applied better to bare skin than some of the shimmers, which often appeared faded and muted in practice compared to how they appeared in the pan. The pigmentation varied from decent to mostly opaque depending on the shade, and the wear was typically between five and seven hours on me.

I did not keep most of the previously-released trios and palettes from the brand as mine, but when I compared 2018's formula to the prior one (and mine are likely five or more years old), the previous formula was far better for their shimmers--slightly more slip, creamier in feel, and typically more pigmented and true-to-color on the lid. I think the mattes, overall, are improved as they are more blendable and pigmented on the lid.

The Night's Quad #2

The Night’s Quad #2 is a bright, yellowed beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had a stronger white base, which resulted in a graying of some of the deeper shades (#1 and #3). The consistency was smooth, blendable, and easy to work with and only had a touch of fallout. It had good pigmentation that lasted for seven hours on me.

The Night's Quad #3

The Night’s Quad #3 is a medium-dark black with neutral undertones and a satin finish. The texture was drier and stiffer, which resulted in semi-opaque pigmentation that was difficult to diffuse as it applied patchy to begin with. It was somewhat more workable over primer, though it still wasn’t something I’d want to work with again. It stayed on well for six and a half hours before fading noticeably on me.

The Night's Quad #4

The Night’s Quad #4 is a light-medium silver with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was denser, firmer and a bit stiffer to work with, but I was able to jab my brush into it and get decent product to dislodge from the pan’s surface. It applied well and didn’t take much effor tto blend out. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

I don’t really like this one at all – firstly the quality is very average and secondly because the black would have been better if it were a darker grey. And the textures/finishes were a bit off too – the brown shade could have been a satin or light shimmer.

Alecto Avatar

Agreed on the quality, but the black needed to be black because this quad is a direct reference to the Night’s Watch, and their signature color is black. I sort of identify with the Night’s Watch in the show, so I’m very disappointed that WnW didn’t make this one better.

Sana Avatar

Can I just say wow?!!… I don’t care how you did it but these colours look amazing on your eyes because they match all the tones in your eyes somehow… So cool. Always so creative with your eyeshadow work, one of the many reasons I joined your site years ago.

Hazel Avatar

I’m puzzled by this release, W&W is obviously trying to ride the popularity of Game of Thrones without permission and with just vague enough names to not get sued by HBO. Shady as heck if you ask me.
