Delusional

Urban Decay Delusional Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark, reddish plum with warm undertones and flecks of lighter purple glitter. It had a semi-sheer base color that applied evenly, but the sparkles did not disperse evenly across the lips, so some areas had almost no sparkle/glitter while others had quite a bit. The consistency was thin, watery, and easy to spread across the lips but hard to apply precisely along the edges. The color wore well for five and a half hours but some glitter flaked away over time. It was somewhat drying on me.

Formula Overview

$18.00/0.17 oz. - $105.88 Per Ounce

The Vice Liquid Lipstick formula is supposed to be “intensely pigmented” with “complete coverage in one coat” and “nondrying wear” that is “comfortable” and “waterproof.” The majority of the Metallized shades are not even close to one-coat coverage–maybe three or four or coats!–and did not layer evenly, plus they had a tendency to lose sparkle/glitter through wear. Whenever a shade wasn’t opaque in one coat, it often looked streaky or uneven. There were some shades that had fantastic, one-coat coverage, while others featured more medium, buildable coverage but several applied uneven, patchy, and didn’t level or improve after drying down even with a second layer.

The consistency of the formula was smooth, lightweight, and comfortable to apply, but the dry down was lengthy and some shades never fully felt dry (instead, lightly tacky). There was a learning curve to applying and wearing these, too, as they were unforgiving if you accidentally press your lips together before the formula has dried down–the formula is quite tacky as it dries down and pressed lips together results in color lifting away. The wear varied from shade to shade (and between finishes) from four to eight hours, and so far, most were true to the nondrying claim, at least. I didn’t notice any scent or taste with them.

They were difficult to remove compared to most products; I had the best luck saturating a cotton pad with eye or lip makeup remover (Neutrogena, Lancome, Shiseido, etc.), yet curiously were not that long-wearing on me (relative to liquid lipsticks)–they seemed to develop a little tackiness with any meal or drink (even just water) and degraded from there. Overall, the formula was extremely disappointing after the successful Vice lipstick launch last year.

Vanity

Urban Decay Vanity Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a deep, blackened purple with neutral-to-warm undertones and a smattering of multi-colored sparkle. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer with a lightweight, thin texture that took quite awhile to dry down. Even when it seemed transfer-resistant, it did not have the same flat, matte finish or appearance as other shades in the formula have had. It did not apply evenly, particularly along the center of my mouth, and had a tendency to sit and pull away at my lip lines. It wore well for six and a half hours but had some flakiness over time, while the formula itself was somewhat drying.

Right, I was just thinking how UD is “Delusional” for this whole Vice liquid lip formula in general. More often than not, they perform poorly (as evidenced by Christine’s ratings – the highest is an A- and there’s only been one of those out of the 36 shades with reviews.) It just seems to me that UD was feeling the heat of being a major brand without a liquid lip formula so they threw something together just to get one out there, but it’s subpar and it shows.

I tried Delusional today and I really like it. I was surprised to look it up and see the rating. Yes, it’s dry, but a bit of chapstick fixed it for me. I also have Amulet and it’s the best MLBB I’ve ever tried.
