Week in Review | July 29th through August 4th
Happy Saturday! I always enjoy seeing what makes up the week’s top ten highest-reviewed products, so I hope you find it somewhat interesting as well! 🙂
P.S. — I have done as much as I think I can with respect to testing, re-testing, and trialing Anastasia’s Subculture palette with the three additional palettes in my possession (two I purchased, one was sent to me by Beautylish). I have updated my review based on that, though ultimately, my end results were consistent with my original review. I did, however, find that Cube progressively worsened and reduced the rating for that shade, which dropped the average rating down by about 1%. All edits and updates are on the original review. Thanks for being patient with me!

Favorite look you worn:
I revisited the Laura Mercier Editorial Clays palette and did better at blending the clays better than I did when I first bought it. The look came together nicely.
Most used product of the week:
Smashbox foundation and Contour Stick
Any new beauty discoveries:
Sunday Riley came out with a new acne sulfur mask. That looks interning to me.
My skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones MAC NC37 or Lancôme Teint Idole Foundation N 360, deep brunette (getting rid of the plum!), blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.
Favorite look you worn: Yesterday when I did my anti-SubPar palette look using dead-on dupes I already have! When I left the house, I also had Nars Night Together VLG, but at Sephora, I tried on HG Activist, and WOW. Almost bought it!
Most used product of the week: It CC Cream with a drop of Inglot Duraline added to it. Works to make It stay put! Best beauty tip I received all this year.
Any new beauty discoveries: That shopping ones own stash for dupes of a less than stellar, new *big*, SubPar thing. Very pleasantly surprised when I did! ?
Nancy T – can you fill me in on the “anti-SubPar” palette? Is that everyone’s new name for the new Anastasia palette? A Canadian youtuber did a “dupes” using Inglot shadows (I think she might work or might have worded in past for Inglot) and it looked amazingly dead on just from the pic that appeared in my in-box. Glad to read that the tip re using Duraline has worked so well for you. I also think it’s a genius tip and something I’d never have thought to try had it not been passed on to me.
A bit of an underground nickname for it, so for some of us, yep!
That tip you got for Duraline has been a lifesaver this monsoon season! Also, I’ve been using a dusting of Nyx HAD powder underneath the CC cream combo. Doing both really has helped.
Skintone / coloring : light MAC NC 20, med brown hair and eyes
Favorite look: I wore Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadows in Cornelius, Crimper & Kennedy
Most used : Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Gloss in Jiffy, NYX Nude Suede Shoes lip liner and NYX Plush Gel Lipstick in Nude Beach
New beauty discoveries : Essence All Matt Setting Spray, Bare Minerals Matte Foundation and Smashbox Suntan Matte Bronzer
Essence now has a setting SPRAY??? I was just at the drug store and walked past the Essence display but it’s such a poorly done display that even if there was anything new on it, it would be hard to spot it. I need to go looking for this.
Lol my Ulta has actually cleaned up a lot. NYX doesn’t look as dreadful as it once did with a lot of broken product and not fully stocked shelves. Essence is a small section but usually in good condition. The setting spray is a new addition I believe. I like it so far. So happy to find a setting spray that isn’t loaded with fragrance or worse alcohol and better, it works well. Doesn’t make my skin sticky which is a plus!
My skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Favorite look you’ve worn: SauceBox e/s in Wealth and Yell-Oh! with Tarte Clay Pot Liner in Margarita for my wing, and in Bubblegum on the lower lashline and dotted above the point of the wing. UD 24/7 Pencil in Perversion on the upper waterline. Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes on the upper lashes. Nyx Color Mascara in Mint Julep over Manna Kadar Lash Extending Primer on the bottom lashes. Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Justify My Love with ABH Pink Hearts. MAC Halsey on my lips.
Most used product of the week: BareMinerals Mineral Veil in Original; a “Frankenstein” mix of odds and ends of powder foundations; Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Any new beauty discoveries: 1) The Tarte Maracuja Miracle Foundcealer Brush is fantastic for applying powder foundation. 2) I’m loving the LE Tarte Clay Pot Liners. They’re so vivid! Wow!!!
My skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Favorite look you wore: love seeing this question – I always loved and really miss “what we’re wearing”. My makeup’s been pretty light this week (no work and at the gym almost daily) but I love the look I got using a freebie MAC Versicolour lipstick (?) in Resilient Rouge. Even when it had worn off, the stain left behind was really nice (noticed this yet again today). Marcelle City Multi-Protection Cream on my face, Clinique Plum Pop cheeks, Marc Jacobs black skinny liner on upper tightline, Annabelle Cappucino Kohl pencil to line (I want to use it up before it dries up) and something light on my lids (when I wear anything on my lids – still being very careful because of the dermatitis/rash thing I’ve been dealing with on and off)
Most used product of the week: Lise Watier Sun Smart
Any new beauty discoveries: a “rediscovery” – that MAC Versicolour lipstick (or gloss or stain). It’s perfect for me for this time of year.
My skin tone/coloring: fair with pink undertones
Favorite look you worn: Colourpop Brady in the crease, Colourpop glow on brow bone, Colourpop Truth on the inner lid with UD C-Note on the outer lid and into the outer crease. UD junkie eyeliner in water line and under my eye smudged out with C-Note and Truth in the inner corner. Nars Hot Sand highlighter with NARS Orgasm blush. On my lips Bite Fig with NARS Orgasm lipstick on top. This is one of my favorite looks that I go back to a lot.
Most used product of the week: Marc Jacobs Provocouture – 2 eye looks just using it and last night I used several colors from it with Stila Violet Vixen.
Any new beauty discoveries: UD velvetizer and Sin highlighter. I didn’t expect to like the highlighter as much as I do. I’ve used the velvetizer in my foundation twice and it’s tricky, too much powder and I can see my foundation sitting on my face. But if you use the right amount it does a nice job of providing extra coverage to your foundation. I’m going to use it as a setting powder next.
My skin tone/coloring: MAC NC23! Light, with warm yellow undertones. Warm brown hair. Hazel/Warm brown eyes!
Favorite look you worn:
My favourite look I wore in the last look, I wore 4 out of 7 days!! I did:
CoverFX mattifying primer all over. Then Benefits Erase Paste under my eyes and in my inner corners to correct darkness. I then lightly taped NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Custard under my eyes. I would take a flat top powder brush and press MAC studio Fix Powder all over my face to even out my skin and to set my under eyes. For some definition, I would buff UD Jawbone in upward motions along my cheek bones. Blush was Clinique Plum Pop, a cool plummy pink. Highlight was MUFE Artist Shadow in ME512 A shimmery gold,
Eyes were ELF Mad for Matte 1. I would set my eye primer with shade 1 (a matte bone) then buff shade 4 (matte peachy brown) as a transition. Then shade 3 (matte light brown) as a base crease shade. For definition, I’d pack a mixture of shades 5 (matte warm reddish brown) and 6 (matte warm deep brown) and place that directly in my outer V and outer part of my mobile lids. For my lids, I would dab some of ELF’s Liquid shadow in Liquid Gold onto the back of my hand, then pick it up with a fluffy lid brush and spread it over my mobile lids. To “set it” and intensify the gold, I took a clean finger and pressed MUFE ME512 all over my mobile lids. To blend and deepen, I took shade 6 (matte warm deep brown) on a MAC 217, and placed it directly into my crease and outer mobile lid!! A quick all over blend and some mascara and the eyes are done!!
For lips, I’v been wearing MAC viva glam Taraji p. Henson to DEATH!!!
Most used product of the week: MAC Studio Fix Powder!
Any new beauty discoveries: MAC Quiktrik sticks!! I hope they come back!!!
My skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones.
Favorite look you worn: I took out my Dior Bonne Etoile palette this week and rediscovered what a beautiful little quint this is. I did a look with the Jade, Mint Green and the soft silver/pink shade. I paired it with Clarins Jolie Rouge lipstick in Ginger. I was really happy with how it all turned out.
Most used product of the week: Dior’s Bonne Etoile, Milani’s Tuscan Toast lipstick and Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation Gel in porcelain.
Any new beauty discoveries: Not really.
Skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones
Favorite look you wore: I used the ABH Modern Renaissance for the first time in forever. I always forget how pretty it is! Golden Ochre and Raw Sienna in the crease, Venetian Red in the outer corner, Antique Bronze in the outer half, and Primavera all over the lid. Raw Sienna in the lower lash line and UD Rockstar 24/7 Glide-On eyeliner blended into the top and bottom lash line. I loved it!
Most used product of the week: Probably Benefit Fake-Up concealer in fair. I have been wearing as undereye concealer even if I don’t wear any other makeup.
Any new beauty discoveries? I tried It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores loose powder for the first time this week. I still haven’t decided if I like it or not. It does blur my pores a bit but leaves my face looking whiter/grayer. If anyone has any tips on application, I’d love to hear them! I’m just applying a small amount on a fluffy powder brush.
