Uncontrollable

MAC Uncontrollable Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted, medium orange with subtle, warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that didn’t tug on the lips when applied directly from the tube. There was a bit of color that pulled into my lip lines over time, though it wasn’t too noticeable. On me, the lipstick wore well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.1 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Yellow You Dare

MAC Yellow You Dare Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a brighter, medium yellow with warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture had moderate slip, and it was thinner overall, so while it was comfortable to apply, it did not sit so well on the lips. The color emphasized every line I had on my lips, and color pulled dramatically into my deeper lip lines. It did not apply evenly either, so it ended up looking rather flawed on. Unfortunately, many yellow-hued lipsticks apply poorly without a liner or primer to smooth things over. This shade wore well for four hours, but the color settled more and more in my lines as time went on, though it was neither drying nor hydrating.

Show and Teal

MAC Show and Teal Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bold, medium-dark blue-based teal with cool undertones and a cream finish. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and had some slip, so it glided right on and never tugged, but the coverage could have been more even (especially toward the center of the lips). There was a bit of color that pulled into my lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It had mostly opaque coverage that lasted for five hours. This shade stained my lips a bluish-purple color and was non-drying.

Show and Teal looks like such a fun color! Reminds me of the Smurfs. I wish Maybelline would do a mini-set of their more unique colors (blues, purples, black), as it doesn’t make sense to buy a full-size for most people

I’m really tempted to try Show and Teal! I have a few different teal lipsticks in mind right now: this one, Melt Cosmetics (probably not because shipping is ridiculous), Sugarpill, or OCC!
