8 Luxury Summer Favorites 2018 | A Twist of Purple

Summer Favorites

A Twist of Purple

There are so many products available these days, and I thought instead of just rounding up some of my favorites for summer that I would break it down into “sets” with themes, so this set of summer favorites, which I’ve called A Twist of Purple, led by the vibrant pop of purple (and softer pink/plum) found in Pat McGrath Subversive La Vie En Rose Palette.   You can view swatches of all the products in this set here.

Do you have any indulgent makeup favorites that you love wearing in the summer time?  Share in the comments below!

While these are favorites I’ve enjoyed and would recommend, I hope each set I’ve put together also helps inspire you to try certain products, textures, or shades together. Every product I’ve mentioned I’ve reviewed, which means they also have a list of dupes, so you can check your stash for similar shades and put together your own A Twist of Purple set with what you have. Pro tip:  refine results to products you have in your vanity (see this post for more info if you’re like, “Say what?”).

I’m addicted to everything pretty in purple. No secret there, right? Love using my PMG La Vie En Rose palette and if my lips are in decent shape, GA Luce over almost any lipstick! Other favorites in my purple life include: Natasha Denona Lila palette, UD Bittersweet Blush, Viseart Amethyst Theory Palette, Nars Calisto Duel-Intensity e/s, MAC Fathoms Deep EDES, and I need Nars Kate because it’s been on my WL forever!

I like this! I haven’t been thinking in terms of purple recently, but I am wearing NYX’s purple mascara today. This thing you’re doing is pretty cool — gets us thinking about coordination, mix-n-match, which is especially helpful for those of us who really need to do more “shopping from the stash.” How fun! I might pick a color theme every week and experiment. Hmmmm…

I love Marc Jacobs Jazz(berry) highliner. I know it got a poor grade on Temptalia and I understand why. For me, it settles into a purple-lilac that lasts all day. I wear it probably 2-3 times a week.

Since I live in a climate that’s warm all year except for a few days here and there, I don’t really have seasonal makeup looks.

As far as purple makeup products are concerned, my favorites are MAC Heroine lipstick and Marc Jacobs Highliner in (Grape)Vine.

I completely agree with the Pat McGrath Subversive La Vie En Rose MTHRSHP Eyeshadow Palette! I’m still mourning missing out on Prismatic Amethyst. 🙁 I don’t buy much in the way of luxury brands, though.

Some of my favorite $25+ purple products for summer:

*Violet Voss Hashtag PRO Palette, $45

*UD Afterglow Blush in Bittersweet, $26

*LORAC Color Source Buildable Blush in Ultraviolet, $26

* The purple/lavender shades from the Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Gemstones and Electric, $27 each

*Ardency Inn MODSTER Mānuka Honey Enriched Pigments in Royal and Orchid, $21 each

*Purple Horseshoe from the ABH Glow KIt in Moon Child, $40

*Laura Mercier Holiday 2013 Artist Palette for Eyes (LE)

*Urban and Jilted from the Urban Decay Electric Palette (DC)

Come out of your shell a little and play with the purple. Maybe an eyeliner? Purple eyeliner looks great with all eye colors. I think a little purple would look lovely with your rosy skin and ginger hair. Change of pace.

Two of the purple shadows I really love for summer are both from Nars – one is the icy light purple side of the Nars Nouveau Monde duo (not sure it was LE or if it’s just that Sephora no longer carries it) and the other is the purple shadow in Nars’s Kauai duo. I also like UD’s Rockstar liner. I don’t wear purple toned lipsticks or blushes, though.

You’ve already hit a couple of my faves, Pat McGrath’s La Vie en Rose and my one and only real splurge on a blush/highlight palette, Natasha Denona Darya. That was actually a real good buy for me because I grab it quite a bit. I also like Violet Voss Hashtag and Lime Crime Venus III. For a highligher palette, I grab Lime Crime’s Fairies palette.
