24 Neutral Eye Makeup Ideas to Try for Spring 2020
After the overwhelming response to my post on 24 color combinations that made me happy, I thought I’d share 24 more color combinations–but this time in a neutral vein. I pulled from popular palettes (all currently available) along with some from Sydney Grace’s single range (most diverse and thus a reliable range to get inspo from). As always, I hope you find something you like enough to try at home, whether you have the exact products or you’re pulling from products you already own!
Note: I try to keep from pulling in very light, more matte shades as they can be more skintone-limiting, so my tip for those who find some combos are too dark, take away one of the darker shades and substitute for something 2-3 shades lighter as appropriate (either go lighter for a crease/transition shade or add-in a lighter shimmer).
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.
You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!
These are really nice everyday looks and while I don’t own any of the products listed, I think I have all the dupes I need in my collection ? thank you!
Yay! My pleasure, Kuávsui!
Wonderful post with beautiful combinations! I’m new to commenting but I’ve been addicted to your posts for sometime. Do one for blue eyes please!!!! ?
Thank you, Lori!! 🙂
This is a great suggestion! A whole series of “looks for different eye colors“ could probably be largely assembled from the looks Christine has already done (saving her some time if she wanted to do this).
I love these idea compilations you do! Whether it’s ideas for a season or ideas for specific palettes, they’re always so inspiring! I didn’t realize I could love specific looks until this post, but I’m going to go back and save some of the others now! <3
They’re linked to Color Stories now! 😀
This is absolutely fantastic Christine – perfect for me approaching autumn here in Aus. I have some of the eyeshadows mentioned and can easily dupe the shades I love.
these are beauts! Really nice for pretty spring looks.
I love this idea! I’m always looking for new ways to wear palettes I already own. Sometimes I get in the same color rut where I just do that same look from each palette because I know it works, but hopefully this gets me out of my comfort zone.
I agree. I think I may spend some of my social-distancing hours today trying some of these out!
Some wonderful and surprising color stories. I have to save and try them, esp # 22!
Fantastic! The shareable images are very helpful, thank you!
How I wish I had quick and easy in-store access to Sydney Grace and Colourpop. These e/s looks are lovely, Christine – thank you so much for providing them. I have the Born to Run palette and really like it but always need new inspirations for using it in ways that work with my personal style and these looks are “it”.
Totally understand, Mariella! I can imagine you falling in love with some shades from SG in particular if you were able to swatch in person!
These are all beautiful! I love to see that you used some pretty duochromes and didn’t stick to just nudes and browns. Great variety!
