What question would you like to see the community answer?

I’m taking suggestions for future Question of the Day posts! The best questions are ones that generate discussion and/or longer answers (rather than a simple yes/no or other one-word kind of answers). Thank you!

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Aside from staples I use up and repurchase- I’ve noted that I rule out most new releases, both because they fail to match my preferences, or else because they are close to something I already have. So my question is, “How do you know when (repurchase of staples aside) your current beauty collection is enough or near to complete as it is?”

-What applicator do you prefer for lip gloss?
-What applicator do you prefer for concealer?
-How do you feel about cream blushes?
-Do you purchase new makeup for special occasions, if so which types of occasions?
-What colors never seem to work for you?
-Do you seek out scent in makeup products?
-Do certain packaging motifs deter you from making a purchase?

I would like to know how people keep track of dates they open each item of their makeup…how to keep good records of how old each thing is so they know when to discard expired things. What are some good systems? Or do they keep track at all or just do a casual estimate? And are they strict or not on the expiration issue?

As a person that tracks all her make-up in a spreadsheet (purchase date, opening date, manufacturing date – based by batch code, expiration date based on PAO) I am hopping to get this question hopping that I’m not the only one with this obsession. 😆

What makeup product(s) did you buy because you just *had* to have it at the time, but you rarely ever use it?

What fragrances have you fallen out of love with?

How do you use eyeliner (above the upper lash line, below the lower lash line, on the upper or lower waterline, tightline, etc.)?

What was the first expensive perfume you remember wearing?

What makeup product is nostalgic for you?

What is your favorite drugstore dupe for a specific high-end product?

-What products do you think are lacking from the mainstream beauty industry?
-What would you like to see from Holiday 2020 releases that is different from past years?
-Which colours (specific shades/finishes) do you want to see more of in upcoming eyeshadow/face palettes?
-How, if at all, would you like brands to engage with social causes – ie politics, social change, activist movements, etc.?
-Which smaller beauty creators do you wish were given more opportunities with brands?
-When is the right time to release beauty products after their official public announcement?

Canada has limited beauty product availability. On some occasions, I flip to our shopping channel and see some beauty brands that are not available at Sephora, drugstores, or anywhere else here that sells cosmetics and skincare. Does anyone here have any experience with smaller brands like Doll10, Prai, Elizabeth Grant, Skinn, etc.? Some larger brands like IT and Korres also sell and those have larger availability.

Jane Avatar

Korres is big here in the parapharmacie sections. And like Canada France has numerous small or large “other” brands that I don’t see much elsewhere. That would make for a nice question, I agree.

1. Did you find a holy grail product after receiving an in store makeover?

2. What is your favorite brand of makeup brushes? What is the most you have spent on one brush? How often do you wash your brushes?

3. Which beauty influencer(s) do you follow on YouTube?

What tweaks have you made to your application techniques over time, and what difference have they made? What skincare have you used that’s made the most difference for you – what issue were you targeting and what were the results? Do you use any devices on your face that have been effective? (eg. PM, Nuface, etc.)

Heather Avatar

I’d be interested in knowing at what point in life people got really into skin care and makeup. Was it early, or is it a more recent thing for the more “mature” crowd. What prompted you, was it the media, peers, etc.?

Jane Avatar

I think she’s talking about beauty influencers (or other types) who take about the drama between the influencers. (But, that’s me guessing from what I’ve seen them do and what I try to stay away from).

Jeanine Avatar

What are your favorite beauty hacks that save time/money (using a product for something other than its intended use)?

How do you store double ended brushes?

Which primers do others use with which eyeshadow/foundation/concealer formulas? Am I unusual in prefering different primers to get more out of different formulas? Does anyone have a primer recommendation / need a primer recommendation for X formula?
