MAC Disney Venomous Villains Collection: Evil Queen Review, Photos, Swatches

Next up, we have the Evil Queen from Snow White. The Evil Queen’s “collection” includes two lipsticks, two lipglasses, three eyeshadows, one beauty powder, and one blush.

All of the character images are stamped on the products; they are not stickers. You can find official promotional imagery and color descriptions here. The collection launches on September 30th, 2010 at all MAC locations, October 2010 internationally, and approximately September 28th for online. You may also want to check your local store to see if they are holding an unveiling/preview party for the collection.

Lipglass ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)

  • Strange Potion is a lightly pink shimmered, soft pinky-coral that’s semi-opaque in coverage. This is a really beautiful shade of gloss–I can’t think of anything quite like it that MAC has put out. Very flattering on both cool and warm-toned skin.
  • Hot House is a deep fuchsia-berry with iridescent fuchsia-purple shimmer. It applies and looks semi-opaque on lips. It originally was released in Strange Hybrid.

Lipstick ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)

  • Sinister is a semi-sheer brown with pinky-plum shimmer. It looks better on the lips than as a swatch. This has a lustre finish.
  • Toxic Tale is a bright, opaque shade of nearly neon coral with an orange lean. Reminds me of Illamasqua Mistress, but in a lipstick form. Very, very pigmented–creamy but not slippery. This has a satin finish.

Eyeshadow ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)

  • Her Alter Image is a cool-toned icy, pale lilac with a veluxe pearl finish. It’s pigmented and purpler than Beautiful Iris, but it’s similar.
  • Vile Violet is a darkened cool-toned violet with muted blue tones. This has a matte finish.
  • Vainglorious is a bronzed burgundy with a frost finish. It’s similar to Cranberry, except a little browner, and it’s a bit darker and more burgundy than Star Violet–but it’s closest to Star Violet.

Blush ($19.50 U.S. / $23.50 CDN)

  • Bite of an Apple is a brightened coral-pink blush that can really pack a punch!  Very opaque, though it is blendable.  This has a matte finish.

Beauty Powder ($25.00 U.S. / $30.00 CDN)

  • Oh So Fair is a soft, petal pink with subtle shimmer-sheen. It’s sheer and looks very, very subtle on my medium skin tone. I wouldn’t recommend this shade for darker skin tones, because I think it would have a tendency to turn ashy.

See more photos and swatches!

Please note: As a press event attendee, I received samples of the full collection packaged in a “tower” with four boxes (one for each character), and as far as I know, it’s press packaging — therefore not something you will see or be able to purchase in-store.

  1. Ellery Cushing says:

This looks gorgeous! Sadly I can’t afford any of it, I just got braces yesterday that my insurance won’t cover.
Toxic Tale looks gorgeous, as does Bite of Apple.
I hope they do a Disney Princesses collection now, although the villains are much more exciting.

  2. Helena says:

I wonder how Toxic Tale would look topped with Strange Potion.

  3. Nazih says:

I’m a sucker for blush, Bite of An Apple looks gorgeous!

  4. Jasmine says:

    Hi Christine!

Is bite of an apple blush similar to Melba at all?

    Thanks for all the info!

  5. Rebeca says:

    Hey Christine,
do you think the Oh So fair beauty powder would be too light to use it as a blush in nc-20 skin tone?

  6. Lisa says:

Ooh, how does toxic tale compare to vegas volt?

  7. Tiffany says:

Would you say Bite of an Apple is similar to Hipness (To the Beach) or Instant Chic (Pret a Papier)?

  8. Claudia says:

Hi Christine, thanks so much for this stunning preview !! I wonder how you felt having all this info and having to wait to disclose it !! I never felt so happy to be at home on a saturday night ! lol ! I wasnt really impressed with this collection but after your swatches, I want everything ! I read on spektra that vegas volt could be a dupe for toxic tale, but I really don’t think so, what do you think ? Once again, thanks !

  9. Lowie says:

The bite of an apple blush looks amazing on you! sooo pretty. i loved the video you took and after they introduced the oh so fair beauty powder as the perfect blush for fairer skin tones i knew i had to have it. can’t wait until this collection is launched i’m SO excited! i also love the toxic tale lip color. it’s so bright and fun for fall!

  10. Nicole says:

Bite of Apple, Toxic tale and strange potion. CHRISTINE HELP ME, i mean my wallet!

  11. Emily says:

Are the purples anything like Memoribilla from Pret-a-papier? or Crazy Cool from Dare to Ware? I love those purples/lavenders but I always end up with so many! I just don’t want more dupes…but if they really are different I’ll get ‘em. =)

  12. Amelie says:

    Oh wow…
Strange Potion is absolutely beautiful! Love at first sight ^^ It makes your lips look so glowy and pretty! I’ve never bought a MAC lipglass (my collection of MAC products is fairly tiny: one concealer, one foundation, one blush, one eyeliner, one eyeshadow, three lipsticks xD) because they always seemed quite dupeable and not really worth the $35 they are here in Australia.
I hope Strange Potion is put in your recommendations for fair skins :D

  13. Carol says:

Hi Christine! Just wondering: is bite of an apple a closer dupe to marine life from the to the beach collection? I missed out on that one…

  14. Stef says:

Christine, please tell me if Bite of An Apple would be too dark for me? I’m an NW20? Thanks! :)

  15. Sani says:

Thanks for swatches, I think I want it all, lol.
Is Bite of an apple similar to coral side of Marine life in any way?
    Thanks :)

  16. vania says:

Does Mac toxic tale look like chris and tell lipstick? Thanks Christine!

  17. Bernice says:

    Christine!
You’re right. Strange Potion Lipglass looks fantastic !

  18. Chassy says:

Will most likely be purchasing Strange Potion Lipglass and Toxic Tale Lipstick. Yeah! :)

  19. Amy says:

Definitely love the packaging on the lipglasses! Vainglorious and Bite of an Apple look really nice.

  20. TheJoey says:

Need to see those eye! They look amazing.

  21. Ashley says:

What’s the color payoff of Vile Violet like? It looks smooth and bold in the swatch, but does it apply that way? I’m curious about the pigmentation and blend-ability.

  22. Nadine says:

Sinister’s color base reminds me of Clinique’s Black Honey!

  23. Rachel says:

Toxic Tale is lovely. Bite of an apple is pretty, but I tend to stick to one blush, so I can’t really justify buying it. I love all the e/s. Purple is one of my favorite colors in general; I just don’t wear it in eyeshadow.

  24. Tiffany says:

Is Oh so fair very shimmery?

  25. tawny says:

bite of apple bush looks pretty and unique

  26. GinaB says:

Hey Christine! Does Vainglorious Eyeshadow compare to Glamour Check! at all? (I could be way off)

  27. Jackie says:

hmm, i dunno.. do you think “Oh So Fair” Beauty Powder is close enough to “Pearl Blossom” Beauty Powder from the Barbie collection that i can skip it?
it looks like the only difference is that Oh So Fair is pinker and a bit more pigmented /shrug

  28. Cristalle says:

Hi chistine, any dupe for bite and apple blush? Or any similar shade for bite an apple blush?!! Thanks in advance !

  29. Jessi says:

Oh Christine! These are TO DIE FOR!!

How would you compare Marine Life (darker side) with Bite of an Apple?

  30. Vickie says:

im loving the lipglosses in this section! im so getting 2 strange potions!

btw christine, ive been meaning to ask you were do you buy the disposable lipgloss applicators? ive been trying to find them in bulk but i dont know which sites to trust.

  31. Kat says:

OMG– Strange Potion Lipglass & Toxic Tale Lipstick– simply beauteous.

  32. Anitacska says:

This is a much prettier collection, love the lipglasses, the blush and the beauty powder!

  33. Amy says:

My oh my, I love that blush!

  34. Miko says:

What does a beauty powder do?

  35. Lara says:

Bite of Apple blush!!! It looks gorgeous!

  36. Etaoin says:

Wow its amazing that you got all this up so quickly! I love toxic tale and bite of apple and the beauty powder too!

  37. effie says:

I was a little worried about Toxic Tale looking too similar to Coral Polyp from the Dame Edna collection, which would make it hard for me to justify buying it, but seeing your swatches side by side, I am now reassured that they are different enough.
I do have to say, it looks like they didn’t really have a lot of creative freedom with the packaging- they look as though they took a bunch of Disney stickers and slapped them on the products. I guess Disney characters have crazy copyrights attached to them, so there provably wasn’t a lot of space to maneuver… I just wish they could give then their own unique MAC twist.

  38. Hend says:

Oh this collection has some really awesome colours !
I will kill for Strange Potion lipgloss !

  39. Thanks for sharing!! I have my eyes peeled for when this arrives in stores… looks amazing on you

  40. Dawn says:

Hot House and Oh So Fair are absolutely musts for me. I love the eyeshadows too, but have very similar colours (Beautiful Iris, Crazy Cool, Cranberry and various purples/violets) so can’t really justify getting them. Is Vile Violet a dupe for any other MAC colour, or is it different enough to make it worth buying, would you say?

This packaging is actually growing on me. I really like the Bite Of An Apple packaging, but the colour is far too bright for me – I fear it would look clownish

  41. Sandrine says:

Ohhh! Loved strange potion and toxic tale after reading the color descriptions a few months back, but seeing these swatches makes me want them even more. I also love vainglorious and bite of an apple. Oh, my poor wallet… and I haven’t seen Maleficent’s and Dr. Facilier’s yet.

Christine you look lovely wearing these shades especially the blush.

  42. Talita says:

hi christine!! one question… the lipstick Toxic Tale = vegas volt.. because i arealdy have vegas volt.. thank you..

  43. daphne says:

If I have Chanel Genial lipstick, is Toxic Tale too close to bother with? Because I’m looking at it going “yeaaaaaah!” but then I realized it might look really similar. (Not a dupe, but close enough.)

I didn’t see anything I wanted from the Cruella group except maybe the beauty powder but I’m loving this bunch…one or both lipglasses, Vile Violet eyeshadow, the blush, maybe Toxic Tale…really awesome group.

    • Christine says:

Like personally… not similar at all. I originally thought it was gonna be a dupe for Lancome Chris & Tell… or perhaps Chanel Genial. I compared photos, and I was like, “Nope, not even worth mentioning!”

      • daphne says:

Okay, interesting! In your photos Genial looks fairly similar except lighter, and it’s much brighter on me than it was in your photos. I guess I will have to remember to bring Genial with me when I shop this collection to make my choice…I’m LOVING Toxic Tale though so we’ll see! :) Thank you!

  44. Ugh, why can’t MAC release one collection at a time!?
I want the lip glosses, the lipsticks, Her Alter Image and Vanglorious eye shadow, the blush, AND the beauty powder! Seriously, all products exept one eye shadow T.T”

  45. Ashley says:

Christine, you look absolutely gorgeous in these pictures! Bite of an Apple looks amazing on you, and the last picture of you is especially lovely! The colors from most of the collection seem just totally made for you!

On another comment you said that Memorabilia might be close to Vile Violet, but would you say that Vile Violet is more pigmented and easier to work with? I remember so many people said not to get Memorabilia because it was tough to work with and I believe you said the same, but Vile Violet looks really pigmented in your swatch. And of course, it’s a gorgeous color! It will most likely replace my lemming for Poison Pen that is no where to be found, even though I’ve heard it’s not a dupe. But anyways, your opinion?

    • Christine says:

      Thanks :)

Vile Violet is very pigmented and creamier/smoother than a lot of matte shades! Poison Pen and Vile Violet are similar, though I’d say Vile Violet is lighter and a lil’ brighter, but it’s a good replacement if you can’t find Poison Pen (but Indian Ink is also similar, which is PRO).

      • Ashley says:

I’m thrilled to hear and see that Vile Violet is creamy and easy to use! I love matte eyeshadows, but I don’t seem to have the best luck with them except for Aromaleigh, and they’re closing :(

I’m eventually going to invest in all of Sugarpill’s pressed eyeshadows though, so I’m sure that will satisfy my matte craving!

  46. I’m liking Hot House lipglass. The eyeshadows are okay, don’t now if I’ll be getting them though.

  47. Verena says:

Thanks for the swatches, Christine! I’m wondering if you think that Bite of an Apple blush looks similar to NARS Amour blush?

  48. Nichole says:

    Christine,

How does Vile Violet compare to Indian Ink (pro)?

  49. felicia says:

hmm.. is Oh so fair beautypowder similar to summer rose?

  50. Mel says:

Hi Christine! Good job on these reviews! What would this beauty powder be good for? Beauty powders baffle me to be honest :-s Thanks!

    • Christine says:

      Thanks, Mel!

Anything on the face, really – bronzer, blush, highlighter, all-over… really depends on how dark the beauty powder is and how light/dark your skin tone is.

  51. Kay says:

cant wait for this to come to the UK! evil queen is my favourite, i want both of the lipglasses, bite of an apple blush, and vainglorious eyeshadow the most :)

  52. Annoula says:

Christine – would you say hot house lipglass is a dupe for nars’ hot wired lip lacquer?

  53. I love the blushes but that’s it for this group

  54. Bobbie C. says:

Bite of an apple and toxic tale for me!

  55. ^Aixa^ says:

    Hi Christine!

Is bite of an apple blush similar to Nars Gilda?

    Thanks for all the info!

  56. Janette says:

    U R AWESOME!

How does Bite of an Apple compare to Fleur Power? Im debating which to get :)

  57. Tania says:

    Hi, Christine.
Do you thing Toxic Tale is somehow similar to Coral Polyp from the Dame Edna collection?
    Thank you!!

  58. Gina says:

Is the Toxic Tale Lipstick similar to the Coral Polyp lipstick that came out with the Dame Edna collection I believe?

  59. Eva says:

    So gorgeous!!

  60. Erika says:

How close is Vile Violet to Fig 1?

  61. Jean says:

I thought I’d be all over Oh So Fair…but its too sheer for me. From this collection I’m looking at Strange Potion and debating on Hot House(i’ll have to check it out once i can see it personally)

  62. Ashley D. says:

    OMG I like everything here.

  63. Kianna says:

Is Sweet Strawberry lipglass from the Hello Kitty collection similar to Hot House?

  64. Emily says:

Another lipstick question! : Do you think someone with NC15 skin can pull off Toxic Tale lipstick?

  65. Kristy says:

Strange Potion and Bite of an Apple are sooo pretty….
This might seem like a weird question, but how can I convince my mother to let me wear blush? She says I’m too young and that any face makeup is bad for me and will ruin my skin and enlarge my pores. :/

  66. Glessie says:

Hot house and Toxic tale look fab-you-lus. Ahahah. Hot house would look gorgeous with louder please.

What eye look would you pair with toxic tale? Normally I wear nude lips with the dramatic eyes. But I want the more lip pop ;) and do you think that if I didn’t like crosswires I should pass on toxic tale?

Ahaha but most definitely I will feet vile violet despite having all the purples already mentioned in the comments. I just love purple so much.

    Thanks Christine :)

  67. sasvia says:

do you think it’s worth it to buy bite of an apple blush when i already have melba and hipness? thank you!

  68. jcsmom says:

hi christine! is the bite of an apple similar to the coral colour of marine life? thanks!

  69. Elysia says:

this set is my favorite one

  70. Alison says:

Strange Potion looks SO good on you!

  71. Jessie says:

I wish they had done the sketched images…. they look so much better and more classy!

  72. Cristalle says:

Hi christine! posted a reply yesterday but i cannot find it here. i dont know why. Just want to ask any close dupe of Bite of an apple blush ?! Its so pretty in the photos!!

  73. Christy says:

Must get both lipglasses and all 3 eye shadows. I wanted the compact but the color looks too light for my skintone.

  74. inaya says:

drugstore dupe for toxic tale is wet and wild 12M. exact same color and the W&W formula is pretty awesome with moisturizers and all

    • Christine says:

      Thanks for sharing, Inaya!

      • Samantha says:

Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Coral Crush is another drugstore dupe. It might not be EXACTLY like Toxic Tale, but it’s very close. A high-end dupe is YSL Rouge Volupte in Rose Paris, which is a bit brighter and pinker than Coral Crush. All three shades are strikingly similar.

        • Annette says:

Samantha, thanks for the tip about coral crush! I was on the fence about Toxic Tale because while it is beautiful, it is really bright and I know it’s not color I would use very often. So, I picked up Coral Crush at Walmart today. It’s slightly different, maybe just a little bit pinker, but it’s close enough for me and it’s less than $5. :)

  75. ceci says:

    Hi Christine,
Brilliant swatches, absolutely love the detail on your site!
Just wondering, is Bite of an Apple very similar to Benefit Coralista? It looks quite similar in the pan.
    Thanks!

  76. Verena says:

I wonder how similar Bite of an Apple and NARS Amour are?

  77. Julia says:

Is bite of an apple similar to fleur power? Thanks!

  78. Ally_D says:

Bite of an Apple blush looks so lovely but I’m still not sure I can get over the packaging. I’m not a 10 year old girl!

  79. ellie says:

Which one is brighter impassioned or toxic tale?

  80. kathy says:

do you know if strange potion is anything like ensign lustreglass?

  81. Nikki says:

Maybe its just me, but going from $16.50 for a lipstick/gloss to $18.50 has just broke me of my MAC addiction. That’s just way too expensive. I can see a 50 cent increase, but $2 is just ridiculous.

    • Hayley says:

Ya I agree, but its only for this collection. But the price or going up a dollar in CND and 50 cents in the States in general for lip products :(

  82. izmel says:

how does strange potion compare to ensign? nars ehxibit A vs bite of an apple? violet trance vs vile violet? tks!

    • Christine says:

More opaque, less pink. Exhibit A is nothing like Bite of an Apple — Exhibit A is orange. Violet Trance is nothing like Vile Violet – one is violet, one is a gray purple.

  83. Louise says:

    Hey Christine,

Do you think that Strange Potion is similar to anything in the permanent collection?

    Thanks!

  84. Vickie says:

Hey christine. How simiar do you think strange potion is to benefit spiked peach high shines?

  85. Renee says:

Christine – thanks so much for all of these swatches, so helpful! I must know what eyeshadows you are wearing in this set of photos, especially the vanilla colored one…gorgeous!

  86. sunshinelee says:

What are you wearing on your checks in the Strange Potion Lipglass face picture? Its so a good combination!

  87. Jay says:

i cannot WAIT for this collection! for a subtle/natural fall look with a bold lip for an nc42/43 would you recommend by her own devices beauty powder, darkly my dear blush, or the oh so fair?
btw thanks for the swatches! I’ve already compiled my list!!

  88. Kianna says:

Do you think that Strange Potion lipgloss will look too light on nc37-40 skintone?

  89. Liz says:

I have Hang Loose min blush. How does it differ from Oh so fair beauty powder? Is it logical to have both?
    Thanks Cristine! :)

  90. Hayley says:

Thanks so much for the swatches, as always :D . The colours all look wonderful on you!

Is it just me or is Toxic tale similar to Coral Polyp l/s and is Bite of an apple similar to Marine Life or Hipness? So sorry if this as been asked already :P

  91. Becca says:

Hey I was wondering if vainglorious is anything like cranberry or even sketch? Oh and do you know how long this collection lasts and whether it will be available at a free-standing mac store in a pan form? If it is, will it be cheaper than getting it in the pot?

    thanks xox

    • Christine says:

Vainglorious is more like Star Violet. No limited edition items are available in pan form, and the collection may sell out in under a week while other pieces linger for a month or so – really just depends on how fast things sell and when MAC asks stores to send back any unsold stock.

  92. jennylevi says:

    Dear Christine,

Am interested in purchasing the this blush which it looks beautiful but my question to you is can this blush be a dupe color of marine life from mac to the beach collection?

  93. Heather says:

Great photos here. Are you wearing Sinister in the photo with Oh So Fair? I’m debating on that one since you said it was something to pass on, but it looks great on you.

  94. Adrian says:

Hi Christine! It’s Vile Violet e/s similar to Shock-A-Holic from the Dare to Wear?
    Thanks

  95. Chris says:

Oh, why did I even look? Now I want everything on the page!

  96. Lori says:

hi christine! just wondering if Vainglorious e/s is similar to MAC’s Trax e/s? i think i see purple in both?? thanks!! lovee ur site btw, its one of my daily favorites! =)

  97. lea says:

does ” bite of an apple ” look like coralista from Benefit ? I really like this color but I dont want to have a almost same color as a blush :D does anyone know?

  98. dhok says:

    Hi Christine!!

Having already coral polyp lipstick…would you still buy toxic tale? i mean..they look rather similar to me seeing the swatches, but it is true that to compare 2 lipsticks you have to see them “face to face”. What do you think about it?

Looking forward your answer!! and yay!! your reviews are the most useful thing in the internet for make up addicts!

  99. kasiaj85 says:

Hi! I’m wondering: I have BP in Shell Pearl. I’m Nc 15. Is Oh So Fair in any way similar? I’d have to decide upon one BP :D the choice is always so difficult.
Also, how would you compare Magnetique and Hot House? I see you have a picture in your lipglasses (products) section. They are pretty similar… Have you ever swatched them together. I have Magnetique and I’m wondering whether HH is necessary… :)

    • kasiaj85 says:

on your lips it leans towards a warm raspberrish type of magenta. Magnetique is kind of cool on my lips… Which is nice but I prefer warmer tones.

    • Christine says:

You could skip Hot House if you have Magnetique – Hot House is a little less red, but otherwise, they’re very similar.

Shell Pearl is pretty different than Oh So Fair, IMO.

      • Anaína says:

Hi Christine, I’d like to know if you think the blush Bite of an Apple is similar to Frankly Scarlet?

        • Christine says:

Is mocha similar to bite of an apple? anyway, I have springsheen, melba, mocha (haven’t received it yet),pinch o’peach, blushbaby, pink swoon, briar rose and bite of an apple. you looked really beautiful with oh so fair :) I saw oh so fair on a e-shop for USD$60 because it’s special edition and venomous villains did not come to brazil :( so considering all these blushes and beauty powder I have, is oh so fair that necessary to have that cute glow of yours or I could easily skip it? I paid 54dollars on bite of an apple and 40 on briar rose. Gosh, all the other blushes from permanent collection were no more than 20dollars but I couldn’t resist!
            hugs from Brazil *^.^*

Magnetique is less sparkly than Hothouse, but the colors are virtually the same otherwise. I was cleaning out my makeup drawer and found Hothouse. Looks like its a re-release. Could not tell you if what part of a collection or something that was discontinued.
