MAC Peacocky: Kissable Lipcolour Review, Photos, Swatches, Part 2

MAC Kissable Lipcolour ($18.00 for 0.17 oz.) are a new, medium-coverage lip product that is designed to give you the “comfort of a lipstick” with the “shiny finish of a lipgloss.” It’s supposed to be a lightweight, highly emollient formula with creamy color. It is also touted as being feather-resistant and wearing “for hours.” This includes these four: Peacocky (sky blue with red pearl), Scandelicious (blue fuchsia), So Vain (muted dirty coral), and Strut Your Stuff (bright true red).

  • Peacocky is a medium blue with piink and silver micro-shimmer. I was able to layer enough product on for a nearly opaque result, but with the more product you apply, the more prone it is to streaking/unevenness in application (as apparent in the lip swatches). It’s one of MAC’s more pigmented blue consumer shades, though. It is a little darker (plus it has shimmer) than OCC’s Rx, but Rx is more pigmented.
  • Scandelicious is a bright, medium-dark pink with fuchsia micro-shimmer. It seems like Girl About Town in lipstick form–with shimmer. It is slightly less red compared to Korres #54.  It is comparable to Illamasqua’s Petulant.
  • So Vain is a soft peach-coral with opaque color coverage. It’s a less orange Ravishing lipstick. It is lighter and pinker than Korres #30.
  • Strut Your Stuff is a bright orange-based red. MAC describes it as a true red, but it looks orange-tinged to me. The swatch seems less orange-based than when I wear it, so it could be my undertones pulling out the orange. It seems more orange than Ladybug, as well as more orange than Korres #56 (which looks more like a true red on me).  It also seems comparable to Illamasqua’s Fume (which isn’t as orange), but this isn’t as orange as Illamasqua’s Temper.

Kissable Lipcolour is vanilla-scented and comes in a long, skinny tube (they are the same as the Dare to Wear Lipglasses), but they have a good amount of product in them (0.17 oz.). It has a thin-to-medium, non-sticky consistency that feels creamy, lightweight, and a lot like a liquid lipstick. I didn’t experience any feathering after wearing one of the darker shades for the past five hours, though I am not prone to lip color bleeding.

I’ve been wearing Scandelicious since noon (five now), and it’s still hanging on–and I’ve had lunch and a drink since. There was some color transfer on my cup, but it seemed less than a normal lipstick. Some of the shininess has disappeared, but it doesn’t read flat, matte, or dry–rather it transitions to a satin finish. I would say it started at 90% opaque color and five hours later is at 75% (again, with eating and drinking!). My lips do not feel parched at all–they actually feel quite comfortable! It feels and wears more like a lipstick than a gloss, especially after an hour or so.

I have found that the lighter shades tend to gather in lip lines or show some streaking, but the medium to darker shades seem to apply better and smoother. These reminded me of Korres’ Liquid Lipstick, though these seem like a thinner, less watery formula (Kissable Lipcolour almost seems gel-like). They are also thinner and have a creamier finish as compared to Chanel Rouge Allure Laques (which also have more shimmer), but they are a good alternative that is more affordable.

I am disappointed to see such a high price tag, as it just seems to be yet one more sign that MAC prices will soon be in line with other high-end brands. Unlike the Mega Metal Eyeshadows, you do not get more product than you would in a regular lipgloss (e.g. Lipglass). Though in the interest of providing a fuller picture, the quantity and price are in-line with comparable brands like Benefit, Stila, and Urban Decay; not exactly comforting, I’m sure!

MAC Peacocky launches on January 6th, 2011 in-stores across North America, January 2011 for international. The approximate launch date for online is January 4th but may not be exact. It features 15 Mega Metal Eyeshadows ($19.50 each) and 12 Kissable Lipcolours ($18.00 each). All products are limited edition.

  • Product: 27/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I think the medium to darker shades are very nice, but the lighter shades a little less so (think 26/30). So far, the wear seems to be true to their “hours” claim (my average is three hours or so for gloss, four hours for lipstick). The colors definitely are on the opaque side with none really on the sheer side.

    Am totally swooning over Scandelicious!

Oh my! Peacocky is definitely not an everyday colour lol. I’d say it was suitable for catwalk or fancy dress only.

    I’m liking Scandelicious, though

    • My sentiments exactly. Love Scandalicious, but the rest are quite meh, and Peacocky is just completely unusable as a lip colour (just who wears blue lipstick???).

      • i can’t wait to wear peacocky, actually. i used to wear a lot of blue/purple lipsticks years ago and it’s high time that i brought it back!

    • rose

well with the blue you can mix it with different colors and create wearable colors.

Thank you for your swatches and review. I was thinking maybe the price tag is on the high side because of the stay-on power… so you will use less product throughout the day. I was wondering if this is sort of like Chanel’s Rouge allure laque?? Thanks again. I like more on the neutral side.. so i prolly will get my self so vain & super..

  4. saku

For some strange reason I like Peacocky. Scandelicious looks pretty.

  5. Angela

Is Scandalicious similar to NARS Strawberry Fields? I didn’t get NARS so I was hoping that this would be similar. Thanks!

  6. Strut Your Stuff tempts me, but I feel like it’s similar shade wise to Coromandel RA Laque, which I have. So I’ll probably pass on all the lip colors, but the shadows are calling my name! Great swatches!

  7. mo

im so happy that the blue is included! its so pretty and unique

my BFF bday is the 8th and she’s been waiting a blue lipstick/lipglosss for like 2 years now. and i can finally get it for her!

  8. Zoe

Soooo getting peacocky. I’m the type who wears that to school. I mean, why not?

    • Nikki

Best comment ever, joking or not LOL

      • Zoe

Entirely not joking. Hahah. I feel like makeup should be a statement of who you are, and I’m pretty different haha. Plus I’m kinda in love with lady gaga, and I’d think she’d approve. Hahah

        • Jamie

I love statement makeup for high school too! I don’t think I’d ever do blue though. Internet high-five for you because you stay true to yourself in high school. I know how tough that can be!

    • Gia

I’m 25 and when I was in high school I rocked Neon blue glossy lips all the time! Revlon used to make an awesome blue gloss! I’m def picking up peacocky!!

  9. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Emily Emily

Oh my god, I love Peacocky! I’m guessing I’m the only one who would wear this out daily? lol.

  10. DarkGlamour17

AAAHHH the blue is so great…..idk where i’d where it though. :/ I’d love to wear it to Publix LOL that’d be amazing! haha!

  11. Antoinette

Scandelicious is GORGEOUS!! And So Vain is a perfect Neutral for you.

  12. Sally

The name of “Woo Me” made me lol! Cute name and I like the color too. Not sure how to wear the blue one o_O

  13. lissa

I want peacocky. not everyday but occasional change of pace. love that color and wanting a blue lipstick forever. I’m thinking best for lightest skintones. Thanks so much for reviewing this!!! Happy New Year. Hope you have fun evening.

  14. Hilary

Thanks so much for the quick swatches! I <3 Enchantee and Vanity Fair. They also look BEAUTIFUL on you :)

  15. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kayla Kayla

I think Peacocky is interesting but I have no idea what I would wear with it!

  16. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Katrice Katrice

Love this group of swatches on you in particular, blue lippie is mine. It is fascinating just the small detail of lip color makes such a difference in each photo. Thank you. <3

  17. Tori

Scandelicious is SO gorgeous. Are there any permanent MAC lipsticks that might be similar?

  18. jasmine

i dont understand the peacocky shade lol. everything else looks amazing though ahh i want all of them

    • Anna

So Vain looks really pretty! But why does it swatch so much brighter than it looks on the lips? Btw, what do you have on your eyes in the photo? :)

  19. I MUST OWN PEACOCKY! i have been craving blue lipcolor for everyday for years. It will go nicely with Goes and Goes which i just bought!

  20. Heather

Peacocky is what I’ve been waiting for!! Amazing!

  21. Jennifer F

I love Scandelicious and Strut Your Stuff. Christine, would you wear that blue in an everyday look? I’m self concious enough most of the time so couldn’t pull it off.

  22. Kenneth Alan

    In love with peacocky!

  23. Heli

Strut Your Stuff is gorgeous! I bet it’s more red than orange on my darker lips so yay.

So Vain reminds me of Ever Hip, do you think they’re similar Christine?

  24. what a shame peacocky doesn’t seem to be as opaque as the rest, I think fun colors like this really need to be not see-through :) others are gorgeous though!

  25. VeroJo

    Loving Scandalicious.

  26. Emme

Scandelicious is amazing! I’m definitely getting it! Very sweet and fun shade.

  27. Isadora

so vain is soooooooooooo pretty on you!!!!

  28. Peacocky is a gorgeous color, and if I had anything to wear it with, I definitely would.

  29. I find it disappointing that Mac said that Peacocky would have red pearl and then they left it out. :( It just sounded like such a neat idea! Probably won’t stop me from buying it though!

  30. Eileen

omg how am I gonna narrow it down?? Peacocky for sure, just cause it’s different ….

  31. Peacocky and Scandelicious are very pretty :)

  32. Amrita

Super and So Vain seem so close in colour, no? Which one is the one to choose, Christine?

  33. Julia

Why would anyone want blue lips? I don’t understand!

  34. love Scandelicious! But I think peacocky is kinda weird.

  35. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Brittany Brittany

I actually love Peacocky…It would be pretty cool for clubbing I think.

  36. Perri

ummm the blue. I dunno about that. But the scandelicious and strut your stuff are hot!

  37. morena123

Ok Question: How does Strut your Stuff compare to Movie Star Red and that other bright red from Illamasqua???

  38. I could never dare to wear blue lip gloss! :O So Vain looks pretty on you! ^_^

  39. I could never dare to wear blue lip gloss! :O So Vain looks pretty on you! :)

  40. K

I have seen a few people rock blue lipstick. Not me though. I think it is hard to find the shade that is right for your skintone though with blues. Such as, was it Kesha on New Year’s Eve in Times Square with the blue lipstick? It was not a good shade of blue on her and on camera, the blue seemed to project with a halo effect, at least on our TV. Her lips looked like a big blob that went from her nose to her chin.

I am all for bright and different colored lipstick, so if it looks good on you, go for it!

People used to think it was crazy to wear purple, but it actually looks great on many people and you see it often now.

  41. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Valerie Valerie

How do they feel on the lips? like a lipstick, lipgloss or like they had a lovechild? :) These look interesting :D

  42. Ali

    Strut Your Stuff. :Q__________

  43. Crystal C.

I got Scadelicious and I am loving the color! But Christine, It lasts on me for only like 1 hour or less =( is there something I should be doing to prep it or something?

    • Oh no! Are you eating/drinking?

      • Crystal C.

I tried it on and I swear I avoided eating or drinking for as long as I could but still got the same results. I’m not sure though if I am acidic or what. =(

        • :( Do you think maybe you’re applying too much? Are you applying balm beforehand?

          • Crystal C.

I tried it with the balm and without the balm but it gets the same result… but probably you are right that I applied too much. I will test putting less of it and see if there will be some changes. im crossing my fingers. :)
